Urgent help Cancun Mexico with TUI Beryl Hurricane

Gilmoregirly · 02/07/2024 08:27

We need urgent advice please. We are flying to Cancun in Mexico this Thursday landing at 2 p.m. local time. It is an all inclusive package holiday from TUI. I called TUI to cancel or switch to a different location today. They refused and said that they are monitoring the situation and that if it is a concern that they will contact us tomorrow or Wednesday. Since this is a natural disaster I am not sure why they are not allowing us to cancel. Could you please help by providing any ideas what we can do?

@LanaLCx do you have the transfer details in the TUI app now? I don’t have it.

Im not sure it’s true that TUI definitely won’t fly people out if it’s bad, planes were still landing when the people were being evacuated out of the hotels people were heading for because of the wildfires in Greece last year, my best friend got caught up in it after Tui saying she couldn’t cancel and their hotel wasn’t affected. So I wouldn’t panic but stay informed. Obviously a hurricane is different to a wildfire but even so worth bearing in mind

Notnowbarnaby · 03/07/2024 20:25

That wasn’t designed to worry you more by the way I agree with everyone on this thread saying wait to hear, the thing with fires and hurricanes is that the situation is constantly changing so they won’t give you the go ahead or the no go until very late in the day. I think with my friends situation they just got it wrong - I think maybe hurricane path easier to predict than wildfire? It’s always so worrying when you’ve got children though and it makes every fear more heightened. I hope you get the outcome you want either way.

Just had an email saying not to travel to the airport for the flight and will get an update by 3pm tomorrow

Rainmakesrainbows · 03/07/2024 21:25

We've not heard anything regarding our flight on Friday so currently presuming it is going ahead. Interested to hear if anyone's flight tomorrow goes or not. Good luck.

I’m following someone on TikTok who’s in Jamaica at the Sandals resort, they’re under lock down and the wind is picking up big time.

Sorry I meant cat 1.

Sorry I didn't see the notifications on this.

It's in the TUI complaints Facebook group. They've cancelled a few people now due to go to Mexico today and tomorrow.

Gilmoregirly · 03/07/2024 21:43

we got an email just now saying not to go to the airport tomorrow morning and TUI will let us know by 3pm tomorrow what is our new departure date is. Extremely relieved and so glad that they are taking this very seriously.

Sorry to hear this but maybe for the best.

Gilmoregirly · 03/07/2024 21:58

Anyone experienced this type of a delay from TUI, do you know what will happen now? How much time would TUI give us to get to the airport for the rescheduled holiday?

I've had the email saying not to travel to the airport but the awful thing is they are STILL selling holidays on that same flight knowing for a fact it isn't going at that time.

Cardencallr · 03/07/2024 22:03

Okay - this was always a risk but you are on Tui package so it is all on them to sort out.

I too have been to Mexico with Tui in July - we ran into problems on the ways home - cue emergency landing before we crossed the Atlantic and ended up with a 24hr delay to getting home. Tui were amazing - looked after us, housed us, fed us and payed delay cancellation.

Honesty just go with it and let them sort it out. Tui won't fly if its not safe - if you divert elsewhere so be it. I'm sure your holiday will be fab.

Cardencallr · 03/07/2024 22:07

Nobody can second guess when they will reschedule- best thing you can do is do some org at home - do you have any flexibility on return dates , can you sort this with work so if they move the return date you are organised.

Remember much much worse things have happened as unsettling as this feels atm.

mitogoshi · 03/07/2024 22:10

With hurricanes they are never sure of trajectory because they change, when we had a weather delay we took off 8 hours later

Gilmoregirly · 03/07/2024 22:11

I can’t even explain how relieved I am. I don’t feel disappointed at all. My thoughts and prayers are for people in Caribbean who doesn’t have the same option to be safe as us. I hope TUI will sort this out and we can still go to Mexico too.

We were due to fly tomorrow morning with Tui to Cancun but our flight has been cancelled, have you had the same?

Does it say cancelled? My email says delayed

Gilmoregirly · 03/07/2024 22:15

@TeeR mine is saying delayed too.

Yeah sorry, delayed I meant. Been offered a 1 day refund. Not to sure what to do. Don’t like not being in the know

There's nothing we can do really. Personally I am sceptical that it'll be just a day because the storm doesn't hit Cancun until Friday so I think the earliest would be Saturday

Ejc222 · 03/07/2024 22:22

Yes, I’ve read it’s due to hit near Cancun Friday night so can’t see us flying before that

Choux · 03/07/2024 22:26

Tui have to think about:
1 the weather ie they need to know the plan can get there land there.
2 airport logistics - can they get you out if the airport to your hotel and
3 can they get the previous guests out of the hotel and out of the country so you have somewhere to sleep.

Flying more guests into a tropical storm / hurricane area and then not being able to get the previous guests out so there are people left with nowhere to sleep would be a huge reputational issue.

Gilmoregirly · 03/07/2024 22:35

Yes, I also don’t think that we will fly at least up until Saturday. My work is OK and flexible with holidays but does that mean they will fly us to Mexico for 5 nights now or would they keep the same duration as before?
