Do you think this will make their moderate supporters think again?

OP posts:
BIWI · 28/06/2024 18:04

No. Sadly I think it will attract more people.

cupcaske123 · 28/06/2024 18:05

It hasn't so far.

Mrsjayy · 28/06/2024 18:06

No. they will still think the same way and still vote for them.

loudbatperson · 28/06/2024 18:06

I doubt it. The undercurrent of racism in the party hasn't exactly been hidden up to this point, so I doubt anyone whose morals don't align with those views would have been voting for them anyway.

WinterMorn · 28/06/2024 18:06

No. In fact, I think it will attract people.

LlynTegid · 28/06/2024 18:07

I think it will, but not as much as the Russian sympathy that Nigel Farage's comments the other day have been viewed.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 28/06/2024 18:08

No, I think it will bring them more votes unfortunately.

Waggytail · 28/06/2024 18:09

It's a massive shame that it probably won't.

PilgorTheGoat · 28/06/2024 18:09

I think many of their supporters are racist so the effect will be minimal

InterrailDreamer · 28/06/2024 18:09

No I think it will appeal to their voters sadly.

craigth162 · 28/06/2024 18:09

Nope because its not even mildly surprising

RosaRoja · 28/06/2024 18:10

They are voting because of such views, not in spite of them.

InterrailDreamer · 28/06/2024 18:11

I am definitely naive because I was shocked hearing the p word said so casually. I didn't think they'd actually speak like that to new recruits etc. They're not even subtle.

I've not heard anyone use that term in years.

AGlinnerOfHope · 28/06/2024 18:11

I think it will. DH is not racist. He likes what he'd call 'common sense' politics. A little of their policies are quite sensible. He was wondering about reform while also knowing Farage is an arse. Helpfully, their campaigners are also demonstrating who they are.

They really help whittle down the options, just as Keir Starmer did this morning. Trouble is, there's no one left standing.

BrigadierEtienneGerard · 28/06/2024 18:11

Not in the slightest.

TooBigForMyBoots · 28/06/2024 18:12

I think it will put a very small amount of people off, but most Reform supporters (including Ex Tory supporters) will have agreed with every word.

idontknowwhotovotefor · 28/06/2024 18:12

Revelation? Have they not made it obvious who they are from the beginning??

Shortfatsuit · 28/06/2024 18:14

No, I don't think it will make a difference, the racism is already "priced in". Reform voters know what they are voting for and don't care.

I don't think there is such a thing as a "moderate" Reform voter. They are, by their very definition, pretty far to the right.

Sookafatwan · 28/06/2024 18:15

Possibly rishi going for the sympathy vote

countrygirl99 · 28/06/2024 18:15

Reform Ltd.

Yes. They will be in agreement with what was said.
It won't faze them at all.

My husband came to the UK in 2003. He had never heard that word used until 2016, shortly after the referendum. He has heard it many times since then.

No, not at all.

The PM is not my favourite politician in the world, but he was absolutely right to call out a shocking racial slur.

I can’t abide the man, but if he ignores it, who next?

WTF?

In speaking about racism that was directly targeted at him, he is not "going for" any kind of vote at all. He is merely making an entirely legitimate statement in response to despicable behaviour from one of the other parties.

Hell will freeze over before I ever vote for the Tories but I will not accept that Rishi calling out racists is in any way a ploy to get votes. I believe him when he says that he does not want his daughters having to see their dad getting that kind of abuse. It's disgusting and shameful that should have to make that statement at all, but please don't reduce it to mere politicking. Some things are bigger than that.
