Do you think this will make their moderate supporters think again?

It's on the news now . Nigel Farage was on loose women today he said it was all a set up !

Rishi Sunack has really gone to town on it good for him !

Possibly rishi going for the sympathy vote

WTF

You should be ashamed of that remark.

sprigatito · 28/06/2024 18:40

They don't have moderate supporters. Their target demographic will applaud the racism and think it doesn't go far enough.

pastaandpesto · 28/06/2024 18:42

I don't think there is such a thing as a "moderate" Reform voter. They are, by their very definition, pretty far to the right.

This. I think there are plenty of moderate people who will agree with some of their policies, particularly given how flawed and uninspiring the other available options are. But no one who is moderate and considered in their politics would go anywhere near as far as actually voting for them.

OooSorryDoctor · 28/06/2024 18:43

It’s been revealed that it was a set up and an actor though. I imagine it’s only going to reinforce Reform voters to vote Reform. It’s showing how scared the other parties are becoming with Reforms popularity

I hate the Tories and think Rishi Sunak is awful as a politician and leader, but I felt deeply sympathetic to him when I read that slur. He doesn't deserve hate crimes, and it is terrible that his daughters have to experience that too. He deserves our sympathy, and Reform deserve our condemnation.

Reform are now employing cognitive dissonance - pretending it's a setup and a conspiracy because they would NEVER while at the same time, of course Reform are a racist party and we all know it. It's not hidden.

Mrsjayy · 28/06/2024 18:49

Yes it was undercover reporting we knew that NF was deflecting and acting like his canvassers were duped

I don't think it's been revealed as a "set-up". That's just another one of Farage's lies. The man is/was an actor but he is a real life racist and Reform supporter.

Schoolchoicesucks · 28/06/2024 18:53

I doubt it - it's not surprising to me that a large proportion of Reform candidates/activists have and express views that others find distasteful and racist or unpleasant.

No. Channel 4 have strenuously denied that. (Reported on the BBC news this evening)

But, frankly, even if it was a set-up, those guys still uttered those words.

And, I have to say, it's the first time in this campaign I've felt any sympathy for Rishi Sunak.

See it worked. Anything to get votes now we're at the desperate hours.

BIWI · 28/06/2024 18:55

Eh? No way on this earth I'm going to vote for Rishi. It doesn't stop me seeing the man as a human being.

Gorgonemilezola · 28/06/2024 18:56

Sadly no - while not all Reform supporters are racists, all racists are Reform supporters.

And, tbh, who's surprised that a Reform candidate is a racist arsehole?

Nothing of the kind.
Most reasonable people see Reform and Farage as dangerous far-right lunatics.

No it hasn't. It's Farage doubling down on a lie to try and deflect. The canvasser might be an actor but that doesn't preclude him from taking part in canvassing legitimately, or holding racist views.

DadJoke · 28/06/2024 18:57

I used to think, as a young leftie, that if you clearly demonstrated that a party or individual was racist, people who supported them would reconsider. But that's simply not the case. Racists and people who consider racism unimportant will vote for those parties in any case. For many, it's part of the attraction.

I am definitely naive because I was shocked hearing the p word said so casually. I didn't think they'd actually speak like that to new recruits etc. They're not even subtle.

I've not heard anyone use that term in years.

I’m Pakistani, when I’m in the UK I rarely go a week without hearing it or being called it.

BIWI · 28/06/2024 19:01

That's awful @Simonjt Sad

I really, honestly, thought we had moved beyond that.

I'm afraid that doesn't surprise me. It's appalling, but I'm quite sure this is a very frequent occurrence.

StripedPiggy · 28/06/2024 19:09

No chance.

This activist was just saying what millions of people really think, but feel they are not allowed to say out loud. And the MSM & political establishment’s reactions to the comments only reinforce that belief.

I will be voting Labour & would never vote for Reform. But I know people who will be voting for them for the same reason they voted for Brexit. Because they want their country back. And today’s media stories won’t change that.

newnamethanks · 28/06/2024 19:11

It can hardly have come as a surprise, it's the sole purpose of Reform's existence.

You think millions of people want to shoot immigrants and people of colour? Millions of people with that level of racial hatred? I know in the non-apology Parker issued he claimed it was normal 'chaps in the pub talk' but I've never heard anyone talk like that.

TaxiCabsAndBusyStreets · 28/06/2024 19:13

And if they 'feel they aren't allowed to say it out loud' that's correct- hate speech is illegal and rightfully so.

HowardTJMoon · 28/06/2024 19:17

Not a chance. A hundred years ago they'd be voting for Oswald Moseley. Fifty years ago they'd be voting for Enoch Powell. Thirty years ago they'd be voting for Nick Griffin. The rhetoric's the same, the supporters are the same.

LakeTiticaca · 28/06/2024 19:18

It was a set up. The guy is a bit part actor.
