Can the parents reach closure with this?

Horrible tragedy but the driver was completely innocent having had an epileptic seizure with none previously occuring. The problem seems to be the parents can't accept this. Should they have been advised against not making a statement as it will probably exacerbate the huge guilt felt by the driver for no reason.

She should be charged.

Assuming that you mean she should be prosecuted, why? What do you know that the CPS doesn't?
Even the parents' lawyer indicated that he thought the decision was correct, he was just advocating for the parents being able to see the evidence and ask their questions.

You mean seizure saying fit is offensive to people with epilepsy.

I have had epilepsy since I was 14 but I really don't care if you call my seizures fits. It's just a word.

Itsverycold86 · 27/06/2024 08:36

It shines a light on how the media and justice system treat you if you have the right face. She hired one of the best legal firms, so she’s not short of cash. She was not named until recently. Maybe she had a seizure or maybe she had the best defense team. The parents were treated terribly and deserve transparency.

Her life is ruined forever just as these girls’ families’ lives have been and my heart goes out to her

Very poorly worded. I hardly think the level of 'ruin' is the same, do you? Which position would you rather be in, hers or the parents?

I wouldn’t want to be a bereaved parent. Nor would I want to be someone who had killed two children due to factors completely beyond my control. Both situations sound utterly horrendous

Roselilly36 · 27/06/2024 08:56

A tragic accident, that no one could have predicted, very, very sad.

I heard Lily's parents on the radio a few months ago and the fact that the investigation has gone on so long with no conclusion has added to the hurt. There is some suggestion that the driver is someone untouchable like a diplomat. With the lies and corruption in this country who know if the seizure is not just a lie.

This is a stupid question but who is Lily? I've seen the articles and 2 girls named but neither referred to as Lily

She should be charged.

With what exactly? Being ill? That’s not a criminal offence in the UK

What makes you say this? Do you think a lawyer could fake a seizure for you? And destroy evidence of what - what do you think happened? Do you think she was drunk? On her phone?

This is total nonsense. There was no criminal offence so money or not, she was correctly not charged. I suspect the parents of the child victims also have money.

The parents want vengeance, which is understandable but isn't justice.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 27/06/2024 18:35

What optics? The optics of daring to be white and a woman?

The optics of hiring a mercenary and expensive law firm and issuing a statement that was so carefully worded to avoid even a hint of culpability so that no one could ever come after her.

“As a mother, I understand there can be no words that adequately express the pain and loss resulting from what happened in those horrendous moments while I was unconscious," she added.”

If my take on it makes me “disgusting” as you say, I can own that. This is a woman using her financial clout to get away scot free.

soupfiend · 27/06/2024 18:42

Scott free of what

If you were her, what would you be saying instead then?

saraclara · 27/06/2024 18:46

How dare she be wealthy? (Is what's behind a lot of these posts).

I'm not remotely wealthy. But I can recognise wealth prejudice when I see it.

This awful incident happened in Wimbledon. Everyone in this situation is going to be doing okay for money.

It's grim.
I can barely bring myself to imagine what any of the adults are going through. But none of the parties will be needing Legal Aid.

The word “sorry” would feature for a start. I’m sorry for what happened to your daughters; I’m sorry that because of what happened that day you have been robbed of the opportunity of seeing your beautiful girls grow up.

But presumably the shit hot law firm she hired told her that “sorry” implies some sort of liability so we get weaselly nonsense reminding us that she was unconscious at the time. I’d bet my house that’s the first and last epileptic episode she has.

Wouldn't anyone hire the best lawyers they could personally afford?

Wouldn't anyone follow their lawyers' advice regarding any statement they made?

I'd do both those things.

They may well have advised that, like your solicitors may advise you of that too if you were in that situation (which you could well be, it could happen to anyone)

It might be the only and ever fit she has in her life, there is lots of information on this and other threads that any of us could have a fit at any time in our life and not even be diagnosed with epilepsy. Or we might have ongoing fits and develop epilepsy. Whats your point?

YellowHairband · 27/06/2024 18:56

I’d bet my house that’s the first and last epileptic episode she has.

Which wouldn't be that unusual.

And you didnt answer the question, scot free of what?

similarminimer · 27/06/2024 18:57

I'm baffled - given that you think she should be prosecuted, what do you think she actually did - what is your explanation?

Culpability for the deaths of these children. I don’t believe she had any sort of fit; I think it’s far more likely that she simply lost control of her powerful car, with devastating consequences, and then used the considerable means at her disposal to avoid prosecution.

caringcarer · 27/06/2024 19:07

I think it's wrong there is no trial where those poor parents can hear the evidence for themselves. Even if the result is the same and the driver walks free.

Oh you dont 'believe it', oh well, you must be right then if you dont believe it

And for others asking, christ alive, there is no trial to be had. A trial is where prosecution evidence of a crime being committed is put to the court/jury and attempts are made to find the person guilty of that

THERE IS NO EVIDENCE of a crime being committed here, no matter what you believe.

Clearly people dont even understand the basics of law in this country. No wonder this entire country is broken and up shit street with people like this in it.

There will be an inquest won't there?. That's the proper place.

soupfiend · 27/06/2024 19:15

And I'll repeat what Ive said on this or other threads (cant remember which ones) the very next time you get in your car and drive somewhere, this could be you, this could happen to you, you could have a heart attack, stroke, fit at the wheel and end up killing someone.

That could be you that people are baying for blood about.
