My personal trainer, my eyebrow lady, my weight trainer, my hairdresser are all abandoning me.

Last year I started a thread because I had a mild panic that my personal trainer was about to up and leave the city we live in. Here's the thread. She didn't leave. Good news and all has been well since.

But now she is actually going. And leaving the fucking country this time. So deja vu. But worse. I'm absolutely gutted. But I'd kind of mentally prepared myself last year so I can just about handle it.

This was about a week ago that she told me she was leaving.

In the seven or so days since:
My eyebrow lady told me that she's moving away to be closer to her parents.

The chap that leads the small-group, women-only weightlifting sessions that I go to said he's taking an undetermined break to restructure his business.

My hairdresser text me to say she's having another baby so after my next appointment, she won't be around until late-2025 if she comes back at all.

The fuck?! What have I done to all these people?!

I've tried venting to DP, he doesn't get it. Can you let me vent and wallow a bit, MN?

I was kind of motivated to seriously start exploring a new PT. But then I lost all will when I also realised I'd need to find a new eyebrow lady, weightlifting instructor and hairdresser. Or I could not bother, just let myself absolutely go to seed. It's clearly what these abandoning bastards want 😭😭

I know I'm going to sound like a complete knob-head but I suspect my PT is going to tell me that she's moving away when I meet her on Monday. She's...

I have never seen such a series of leaden flat- footed responses on MN. OP’s ironic tone is very evident!

Thank you - I know MN is pretty humourless at times but Jesus wept.

LOL OP, that’s some bad luck you’ve had there! Totally get where you’re coming from - especially the eyebrow thing. I went to a new eyebrow lady the week before I got married. She completely over plucked one and ruined the shape of the other one. I was devastated. She did do my nails nicely though 😂

Boxing / yoga sounds like an awesome concept - does your Pt know of anyone else who does similar?

Women only weightlifting is quite popular at the moment, I’d be surprised if there wasn’t somewhere else offering that near to you. Seems a bit short sighted of your instructor to bin it off while he restructures though. That pretty much guarantees he’ll lose you all as clients to somewhere else.

Hope you find some excellent replacements!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 25/06/2024 17:14

I get it, OP. Oddly enough I had the same scenario this year - waxing and nails lady closed her business, hairdresser moved (for the third time)... it does unsettle you.

I was fortunate, waxing and nails lady is now working from home and I've found the route to my hairdresser now. I've asked her not to move again if at all possible.

Aavalon57 · 25/06/2024 17:14

Ouch! Ouch for losing all of these in quick succession and ouch for the mardy and miserable responses on here! I really get it. My hairdresser/beautician was full-time when I met her then she started working full-time in a school and I had to fit around her. Yes, there are thousands of other hairdressers out there but when you get the one, you get the one. I did find a backup lady who is actually very good so I have two of them on the go for when I need them if one is on holiday, say. 😅 All those things you mentioned are pretty personal and when you find the person who can do it how you want it, of course you don't want them to leave. It's like a relationship breakup. You have to find the right one all over again.

ForFirmBiscuit · 25/06/2024 17:15

Do your own hair and eyebrows or go somewhere else and do weightlifting off YouTube or something or go to a gym. Gosh

LeftBereft · 25/06/2024 17:16

@AzureSheep It is absolutely awesome. It should make no sense but it works so well. She said she's got a few recommendations for boxing-focused PTs who I can obviously ask to integrate some stretching but her yoga background just take it to the next level.

The weights training guy is completely bonkers to be closing completely while he structures, you're totally right. I'm going to a session tonight and will be telling him as much 😅

I do get it, I also love the places and people I got used to.
It is an opportunity to find new experiences and styles.
I would ask them if they could recommend someone local. They may know someone in the same field.
You will be ok.
In the meantime, you are allowed some chocs.

I am loving your idea of a reserve hairdresser.
Do they know about each other?

I'm very sorry. I will repent if I can find a decent priest. If he can do eyebrows, hair, weird boxing/yoga PT, and weightlifting too even better. In fact, I'd ask him to marry me.

Well, when my hairdresser text to say "I'm having another baby", I was tempted to reply and say "Why? You've already got two. My colour and style is far more important". But I didn't. Just about didn't.

^THIS IS LIGHTHEARTED.

Thank you. Thank you for making me laugh out 😁

Without regular eyebrow upkeep I look like a Gallagher brother. That might be fine for some, but I prefer to have two eyebrows. I can and do pluck them, but my threading lady gets them into a far better shape than I ever could, and threading is a lot neater than plucking. Plus the magic trimming scissors which I can just never get right.

My partner, damn him, has perfect eyebrows which do not meet in the middle and always look the same. I envy you both.

I have uneven sparse eyebrows (damn you 90's trend 😡) would threading work for me do you think??

Anyoneforcoffee · 25/06/2024 17:21

Haven't read everything so apologies in advance if I am repeating another suggestion. Have you asked who they recommend?
I get this- I found that post Covid and post pregnancy and lifestyle changes I had to re start finding a lot but you get there and sometimes you find something you like more.

My personal trainer, my eyebrow lady, my weight trainer, my hairdresser are all abandoning me.

I see a common pattern here 😂

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 25/06/2024 15:43

I have lived 55 years without a PT, an eyebrow lady or a weight trainer; and with only occasional visits to whichever hairdresser I find cheap/available, and I'm just fine!

I cut my own hair, I'm a PT and I don't even do my eyebrows so I guess that means I'm my own PT, eyebrow lady and hairdresser. I'd recommend it as I can't leave myself 😁

YouOKHun · 25/06/2024 17:30

LeftBereft · 25/06/2024 16:47

Just to clarify I don't have abandonment issues. I'm very aware that these people are just living their own lives and their suspiciously simultaneous decisions to piss off are absolutely nothing to do with me.

I was being light-hearted. I really really didn't think that would need explaining.

There is nothing lighthearted about your news @LeftBereft. I know when my merkin groomer went off on a 6 month cycling holiday I didn’t know if I could Carry On. No one wants you to end up looking like a fat Dennis Healy with bad hair but it looks like that’s your destiny. Thoughts and prayers Hun. 💐

user3344556 · 25/06/2024 17:32

Goodness, @LeftBereft. How dare you support professionals doing their jobs and providing a service you want? Don't you know that unless you're completely au naturale you're not mumsnetting right? You're probably one of those women who uses a cleansing product on your bits (yes, I know the word is vulva).

For what it's worth, I'd check to make sure they've really left. I think this smacks of them making a whatsapp group and leaving you out. They're probably having a group chat right now about how you don't get enough sunshine and your job isn't physical enough 😂

And my eyebrow lady left London to go back home to Canada during Covid and I've never found anyone nearly as good since. Plus my DH gets his brows trimmed when he has a haircut, so I guess we're no better than you.

spiderlight · 25/06/2024 17:37

Our brilliant vet and our lovely dentist both retired within a week of each other last year. I was genuinely upset!

Wildehorses · 25/06/2024 16:25

Genuinely astonished how many people have an “eyebrow lady”. Don’t think I have ever given mine a second glance, my brows have looked the same for 53 years, what needs to be done to them? Threading sounds painful!

I’m British Asian and have been having my eyebrows done since I was a pre-teen. I used to get bullied because of my monobrow (the brows didn’t bother me but the bullying did). I do it myself now because I enjoy how they look rather than the fear of them expanding over my forehead like an upside-down beard.

How I chuckled when big eyebrows became a trend!

Silver lining, you'll be able to feed several struggling families with all the money you'll be saving.

This is me too!

HerculesMulligan · 25/06/2024 17:40

My best school-mum pal and my best mum-on-our-street pal both told me they were moving away in the same week in late 2021. I nearly lost the plot. They'd been so, so important to me during covid - we are still in touch but it's hard!

ManchesterLu · 25/06/2024 17:41

LeftBereft · 25/06/2024 15:47

Yeah, my eyebrow lady is replaceable (for want of a better phrase).

My hairdresser is not. My PT is not. Jury's out on weights training - I love the small-group, women-only that he runs and I've not found anything similar yet.

Of course they're replaceable. All of them are. Change is scary and unsettling but, you never know, you might find that the replacements are actually better than the originals!

Otterock · 25/06/2024 17:42

I don’t have as many as you but I know I’d be gutted if my beautician packed in, it took me so long to find someone who did things the way I liked.

Waffle78 · 25/06/2024 17:43

First world problems some people can't afford to put food on the table. 46 years I've got by without 3 of those mentioned. Hairdresser is whoever is available when I need it doing.

betterangels · 25/06/2024 17:46

It's almost like they delivered a service for payment, and it's not at all about you.

HysteriaOfTheWanderingWomb · 25/06/2024 17:48

🤣🤣🤣 brill thread, thanks op. Btw I also liked your first one... I'll keep a look out for the next installment when your mortgage advisor, counsellor and favourite supermarket check out staff member all up sticks too. 😁😁😁
