My personal trainer, my eyebrow lady, my weight trainer, my hairdresser are all abandoning me.

Last year I started a thread because I had a mild panic that my personal trainer was about to up and leave the city we live in. Here's the thread. She didn't leave. Good news and all has been well since.

But now she is actually going. And leaving the fucking country this time. So deja vu. But worse. I'm absolutely gutted. But I'd kind of mentally prepared myself last year so I can just about handle it.

This was about a week ago that she told me she was leaving.

In the seven or so days since:
My eyebrow lady told me that she's moving away to be closer to her parents.

The chap that leads the small-group, women-only weightlifting sessions that I go to said he's taking an undetermined break to restructure his business.

My hairdresser text me to say she's having another baby so after my next appointment, she won't be around until late-2025 if she comes back at all.

The fuck?! What have I done to all these people?!

I've tried venting to DP, he doesn't get it. Can you let me vent and wallow a bit, MN?

I was kind of motivated to seriously start exploring a new PT. But then I lost all will when I also realised I'd need to find a new eyebrow lady, weightlifting instructor and hairdresser. Or I could not bother, just let myself absolutely go to seed. It's clearly what these abandoning bastards want 😭😭

I know I'm going to sound like a complete knob-head but I suspect my PT is going to tell me that she's moving away when I meet her on Monday. She's...

Feel your pain. I’m pretty low maintenance but very fussy about my eyebrows and lost my dream eyebrow woman. Took me ages to find a replacement. Small thing but makes a huge difference.

BagFullOfNoodles · 25/06/2024 16:53

DH has his eyebrows done at the hairdresser, they also wax his nose hair! They give him a beer though so he's happy

MegsNaiceJam · 25/06/2024 16:53

I don’t have have of those things but completely sympathise that it sucks when you find something, some one or a system you like and it ends.

summersofdoom · 25/06/2024 16:52

I do actually.

There's no shortage of men who have decent hair cut, colour their hair, get their eyebrows trimmed. Many of us don't find monobrows attractive.

Just because it's subtle doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Nicely shaped eyebrows improve your face, at least improve mine. Some women are happy with a light moustache, I am not keen on that either. No one is superior because they care, or don't care, about their facial hair.

Unless you’re on MN, in which case you must be growing a moustache, have a unibrow and unshaved legs for fear of conforming to the patriarchy. God forbid women do what makes them feel good..

Them all ending at the same time is an additional kick in the tits as well.

No one needs a specific eyebrow lady. I have yet to meet a brow beautician who does a measurably worse job than any other. Just get someone else to thread/wax/dye your brows and you'll realise it's fine.

Combine PT and weights person. Look for a PT who also offers bootcamp/weights classes. Or find a good weights trainer and ask if they also do PT.

Then have a good sob about hair. Finding the right hairdresser is a nightmare.

Definitely not true. Man beauticians just don’t get it right. I’ve had three really good ones and many where the result is disappointing and actually has a disproportionate impact on my well-being. It’s the only maintenance thing I do apart from the odd haircut.

Treelichen · 25/06/2024 16:55

I'm team DP. I don't get it either

S0livagant · 25/06/2024 16:58

summersofdoom · 25/06/2024 16:37

neither of these things would do anything to my hair or my eyebrows 😂

Maybe you are born with the perfect eyebrow shape, some people are.
I am not, my eyebrows need to be given a shape by my amazing eyebrow lady.

There's no perfect shape. It's good that people look different. I find that natural healthy people look great how they are. Frida Kahlo looked amazing.

Bringbackspring · 25/06/2024 16:58

I get it OP, and I can see this was meant to be a light-hearted thread! And if those are small pleasures that make your life nicer then that's up to you. Other people don't get to judge your perceived value of having an eyebrow lady in the same way you wouldn't question them spending money on a hobby, nice car, or similar.

I absolutely hate having to find a new hairdresser as I like my hair done a very specific way and not everyone seems to be able to produce the right result. I'm pretty sure my hairdresser is close to giving up his salon so I am just waiting for that devastating announcement!

Also, our beloved home dog boarder recently announced she is giving up boarding as she has a new job and it doesn't fit around it. She treats our dog like her own and is so conscientious. However, I knew this was a 'me' problem, not a 'her' problem so I sent her a hearty congratulations on her new job and was just quietly devastated!

Abitboring · 25/06/2024 16:59

It's a huge struggle, I get it. It's never personal, but you can't help but feel a bit abandoned. My hair dresser has 5 years on his current lease remaining and I already wondered the other day what I should do if he ups and leaves in 5 years time lol. It's complicated by the fact that I ghosted one around the corner who wasn't as good, so obv I cannot go back there.

I think it's the change of routine that makes this difficult for me. Finding a new hair dresser, new cleaner etc. and trust them again, which takes a few sessions. I find this disruptive. It's on par with starting a new job myself for me haha.

Or what if my local cafe closes. There is nothing else decent nearby. The list goes on.

No OP I get it, it's quite unsettling. Fingers crossed you find good replacements for all or most of them.

BagFullOfNoodles · 25/06/2024 16:59

@S0livagant you're fortunate, I have PCOS and chronic excess hair, if I don't keep it in check somewhat I look more like a mogwai than Frida Kahlo

MsLuxLisbon · 25/06/2024 17:00

I feel for you, OP. In my case, it's the fact that my neck, my back, my (redacted) and my (redacted) have all given out at once! What's a girl to do!?

GreigeO · 25/06/2024 17:01

LeftBereft · 25/06/2024 16:39

Okay. Seemed easier than writing "The woman who does a personal training session with me, the woman who does my eyebrows, the man who runs a women-only weightlifting group that I attend, and the woman who dyes and cuts my hair every eight weeks are abandoning me"

There are a number of ways of writing it, where you could have included all of the services, used less words, and only said my or mine once. However, in replying twice to a light hearted thread I completely accept I am over thinking it!

BatchIt · 25/06/2024 17:01

My nail lady of 10 years has just moved. I genuinely nearly cried so I feel your pain.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 25/06/2024 17:01

Maybe you are born with the perfect eyebrow shape, some people are.

Quite a lot of people would probably think there's no need for perfection in eyebrows, and have never given a thought about what constitutes the perfect eyebrow shape. Wanting your eyebrows to look tidy is understandable. Being so invested in them as to need to stick to a specific eyebrow lady to make them perfect seems a bit much.

CutthroatDruTheViolent · 25/06/2024 17:02

Jesus Christ @LeftBereft, didn't you know you weren't allowed to post a lighthearted wail into the abyss without the fun-suckers jumping in to tell you not only how wrong you are because they don't do it that way, but also to point out to you that these people are just living their own lives? I mean, didn't you know that OP? Didn't you?!

Repent! Repent at the altar of the humour-free!

(And I also had a similar feeling last year when my nail lady decided to have the audacity to have a baby. She's still on mat leave and my nails look horrible <sheds a small tear while playing the worlds smallest violin> Grin)

Notellinganyone · 25/06/2024 17:03

I have never seen such a series of leaden flat- footed responses on MN. OP’s ironic tone is very evident!

Roadaheadclear · 25/06/2024 17:04

What you need is a PA, they can sort this kind of chaos out!

eggplant16 · 25/06/2024 17:04

Boo bloody hoo.

But as you say if everyone’s definition of ‘perfect’ eyebrows is different then what is wrong with sticking to the beautician who does them exactly how you like, in a way that is ‘perfect’ for you? Having preferences is not over the top. If I’m going to pay to have them done then I want them done right.

I'm very sorry. I will repent if I can find a decent priest. If he can do eyebrows, hair, weird boxing/yoga PT, and weightlifting too even better. In fact, I'd ask him to marry me.

Well, when my hairdresser text to say "I'm having another baby", I was tempted to reply and say "Why? You've already got two. My colour and style is far more important". But I didn't. Just about didn't.

^THIS IS LIGHTHEARTED.

You may indeed have difficulty in finding a PT who will do boxing and yoga with you. Maybe look for a weights/boxing PT and join a yoga class? When you find a new hairdresser make sure you issue them with condoms. And you had better do the same with any new eyebrow person, too. Can't be too careful.

No, I wasn't saying that everyone's definition of perfect eyebrows is different. I was saying that for a lot of people (or maybe even most people), perfect eyebrows aren't even a thing at all. Eyebrows are eyebrows. If I asked dh what perfect eyebrows looked like, he'd laugh and look at me as of I'd taken leave of my senses. I wouldn't ask though, as I don’t think perfect eyebrows are a thing either!

Packetofcrispsplease · 25/06/2024 17:10

My eyebrows would be a giant hairy monobrow if I didn’t get them tidied (just a quick wax job ) and it is good to find a hairdresser who understands my mad hair .
I moved to a different area entirely and had to find a hairdresser and a beauty salon .
However that’s all I get done but I do sort of understand you 😆
