lovely couple

Esther McVey, who was appointed “minister for common sense” last year, has received £39,000 in taxpayers’ money to rent the flat over the last two years. She lives there with her husband, the Tory MP Philip Davies.

The Daily Telegraph, which first reported the story alongside the campaign group Led By Donkeys, said McVey and Davies had been claiming expenses on the property since 2017 and could have received as much as £250,000 from the taxpayer.
Davies owns and lets out a flat about 25 minutes’ walk away in Waterloo. In his register of interests, Davies has declared an annual income of more than £10,000 from this property.

Is Ester McVey minister for Common Sense, because she has far more of it that the rest of her family?

Names are on the ballot paper, so how much difference would it make now?

None!

I am just feeling a bit uneasy for some reason.

Zonder · 27/06/2024 13:28

Still absolutely nothing from the Tories here. That's it, I won't vote for them now!
😂

TaraTories · 27/06/2024 13:43

@DuncinToffee I had to do that end of Feb - had almost doubled 😡 There's no way I could afford to help dd with a car these days!

InMySpareTime · 27/06/2024 13:44

Had a visit from the local Tory candidate. He (unprompted) admitted the Tories will lose nationally, and that the headbangers in cabinet need to clear off with their right wing nonsense and join Reform. He said Sunak is awful, and the campaign has been embarrassing.
I felt a bit sorry for the poor candidate having to knock on doors apologising for his party's performance. Not so much that I want to vote for him, but if that's the sort of new blood replacing all the fleeing rats in the Tory party there's a glimmer of hope that eventually the party can recover the centre ground.
In other news, this meme has been doing the rounds:

That's awful.

He was certainly trailing it last night.

I am glad we don't have much gun crime in tis country to render that even more horrific.

Evenstar · 27/06/2024 14:01

I’m pleased to report that there is already an alternative version of that offensive image

Looks like their gravy train is about to hit the buffers. Poor things.

Why wouldn't I want secure employment for myself, my family and everyone else in the country?

I think perhaps CCHQ has lost track of their core voters being grandparents and those grandparents being concerned that their grandchildren are being exploited by employers.

Bigcoatlady · 27/06/2024 14:17

Leaving aside the message a five year old could make a better video on the Cbeebies island app. Can they find one of them to make videos for them?

😂

We can't get rid of the Tory campaigners round here.

I can't imagine who would be fool enough to vote for five more years of this.

After 14 years we can only judge the Tories on their record.

We can only judge Sunak on his record.

Highest tax burden for 70 years.

First Parliament that has ever reduced our living standards

Highest food inflation we've ever seen

We're all paying higher mortgages and rents.

Our pensions took a 40% hit and would have collapsed entirely if they hadn't had a huge bailout from the BOE.

The NHS has been hobbled.

Our schools are crumbling.

The Tories have allowed the energy companies to charge us whatever they like and the water companies to pump shit into our rivers rather than going to the trouble of treating it.

Surely they don't think British voters are fool enough to vote for more of the same?

Me too. I imagine Farage will pick up many exTory voters. He'll then cross the floor & offer to lead the (much reduced) Tories. Sunak will be gone (US or sacked) & plenty won't want Badenoch so he's got a fighting chance.

This is exactly what I keep thinking. Who would want to have more of the same?

I do think there are a number of people who have always voted Tory and will always vote Tory, no matter what they do. To them there is no other option, anything else would be a betrayal. But I just don't get it.

I seriously question the sanity of anyone who chooses to vote Tory this time round..

Sam Coates: Did you tell Craig Williams the date of the election?

Rishi Sunak: I'm furious... it's just not right for me to say anything more

SC: You know the answer to the question... you can't prejudice an investigation.. you absolutely can answer this question

I'm just going to quote this on another thread where someone has just announced they've decided to stick with the Tories even though it means her disabled daughter would miss out.

SerendipityJane · 27/06/2024 15:26

Farage has no interest in "joining the Tories". Why would he leave a position where he can never be removed, to risk being stabbed in the back by the Tories (again).

Also their direction of travel is certainly not to his advantage.
