When you went to school with a celebrity and they lie about their story

I was listening to a pop star who was being interviewed and heard them tell some blatant lies about their background.

They claimed to never have gone to drama school or had any industry connections and miraculously was scouted.

I know this to be a complete lie. I was so surprised as to why they would lie this way. It makes no sense. It's been 20 years. No one cares that much so why lie... ?

I guess they were trying to flog something so maybe it the 'struggle story' sells better

I was at school with someone who is now part of the far-right world. Part of their schtick is that they "dropped out of school" at 16. Not according to the upper-sixth yearbook I've got here, sunshine.

Some celebrities don't even go by their own names. Based on that, I'm not surprised if they lie about other things. They're projecting a character in public.

Haven’t there been people over the years said this about Beyoncé? That they were at school with her but now she’s significantly “younger.” I’m sure that one of them calling her out is some sort of celebrity.

Exactly what I thought but she didn't lie about drama school, just said she was working in the coffee shop when she was asked to join. I think she said she went to the Brit School?

I went to school with absolutely nobody who you'll ever have heard of, but this thread reminded me of an article I read about Liz Truss making out her school to have been terrible whereas the journalist who was there at the same time as her accused her of willfully misrepresenting the facts:

In secondary I dated a lad. It was a state secondary. He's famous for IT stuff. His bio states he went to local HMC school 41K per annum and that he went to a Russell Group Uni. He went to an old poly in same town. He's good at his job. He's worth a lot of money but lies.

An actress who went to boarding school but loves to talk about how she worked as a cleaner.

I have a friend of a friend who is an actor, not seen them in years. Not household name level but has worked consistently and had a couple of featured roles in BIG productions. I recently saw an interview where they claimed to have been dirt poor growing up and desperate struggling at the start of their career for money. When I knew them in their late teens they drove an expensive, powerful car and were being privately educated.

A lot of celebrities lie about their age. Kelly Brook is probably about 50 but claims to be in her early 40s. Lady Victoria Hervey looks to be in her late 50s but claims to be mid 40s.

We were watching a show, the basis of which was how the presenter had come from the mean streets of the local city.

He went to the local grammar school in a green and leafy market town and was thoroughly middle class.

Some years ago I enjoyed a series of magazine articles about a famous actress hitting 40 - I knew her at university, and she was a little older than me, and I was 42 at the time.

Over 10yrs ago I met a bloke on a DBT course.
Claimed he went to school with Paul Potts; also claimed Potts' story of relentless bullying was all BS ... said he was the bully, described him as some kind of ugly bully type, like the one who bullies you first because they just assume you'll bully them?

I was at school with someone now little bit famous. I came across an article painting the school and town as down at heal and a bit rough. Made me giggle as its really very affluent! Guess it didn't fit with the gritty image she wanted to get across. Bit sad really.
