When you went to school with a celebrity and they lie about their story

I was listening to a pop star who was being interviewed and heard them tell some blatant lies about their background.

They claimed to never have gone to drama school or had any industry connections and miraculously was scouted.

I know this to be a complete lie. I was so surprised as to why they would lie this way. It makes no sense. It's been 20 years. No one cares that much so why lie... ?

I guess they were trying to flog something so maybe it the 'struggle story' sells better

I met a soap celeb didn’t go school with her but to occasions (one meeting her and one time seeing her dismiss to girls when they spotted her in Boots chemist one evening ( opens till 8pm … ) it was empty and they politely asked for her autograph and she said no .. I was so gutted for the girls .. they were very good about it but cruise she’s a popular ex soap star … and she was extremely rude to me ( before that incident ) when I asked for her autograph at a charity event “what’s your name “ she curtly asked. I told her and she looked round to others and said , as though I was invisible , “they expect me to know their name “ .. really rude .. I honestly was caught off guard …
loved her in a well known soap .. I wish I had said to the two girls, “don’t worry it’s just her “ ..

Oh god it’s not Notes on a Scandal is it?

No. Not that one!!

Sochi · 30/06/2024 17:58

@J97King I’m trying to think of all the books I know of on a relevant subject!

Sting comes from the north east, and now has a mansion type house in Wiltshire. Fields of Gold is about where he lives in Wiltshire.

He has a number of homes. His Tuscan villa is stunning. Think it has a vineyard. Also a Palazzo in Venice I think. Now where do I sign up?

Kemi Badenoch went to the same university as me at around the same time. She is quoted as saying that one of the reasons that she became a Tory/right wing was due to the over the top left-wing views at the university. However my memory and that of my friends is that it was considered funny that it had such a left-wing reputation left over from the sixties, when in reality it was so apolitical that the student union had to comb the campus offering to bribe students with beer to get them to attend and vote at meetings so that they could be quorate.

Notes on a Scandal wasn't by Lionel Shriver, it was by Zoe Heller - but her other books include other novels.

Ah you're right!! Of course! Thanks for the correction 😁

Well next time name change before coming on to a thread a vaguebooking

What, just because you say so? If you’re not interested in the thread without names, just don’t read it. Don’t be giving people orders.

Hardly an order

Everyone hates the "oh I could tell you" bollocks

I mean I know a VERY famous actor, and they like dress up as a Polish milkmaid on Thursdays

I can't tell you who, but they are a household name having won numerous Tony's, Grammies and Oscars, but I'm the only person who knows them, and I live round the corner, so it's a bit outing.... Hmm

MiamiWindMachine · 30/06/2024 22:52

RichardsGear · 30/06/2024 08:36

Someone else suggested that and the poster snapped back, "Just so you can get some gossip?"
Err well...yes?! That's what the whole thread is 😂. Instead you get God knows how many vague posts and seventy people thinking they're the first person to say, 'Roxanne Pallett!'

Well given that the vast majority of posters haven’t named names, I don’t think it’s “what the whole thread is” at all. Unless your scrolling finger is broken, you could just find another thread that interests you more.

Well if you and “everyone” hate it, find a different thread.

Who's ordering now?

MiamiWindMachine · 30/06/2024 23:10

Hang on - according to you, what you said was “hardly an order”. What’s changed now?

Well I didn't think I was ordering, but you do, so therefore if you thought I was ordering, by default you must have been.

My relative had a small part in a TV series with Martin Clunes, so I asked her what he was like, expecting her to say he was arrogant or something else not nice, but she smiled and said he was really funny and liked him, so that was nice.

Edited

QFT. I'm a university lecturer and hardly any students care about politics, gender ideology, critical race theory and so on, and the staff all roll their eyes at each other on the way out of DEI meetings.

A good friend of mine went to school with someone who used to be in a soap years ago. Anyway my friend said she was an absolute cow at school. Her nice girl imagine was uncovered thankfully when she tried to twist something against another celeb. Thankfully karma made sure she’s pretty obsolete now.

I think I know who this is; she made a couple of terrible films in the US after that incident though.

Gouki · 03/07/2024 17:43

TeachesOfPeaches · 24/06/2024 23:01

One of the Lucy Beale actresses used to bully my sister in primary school for being overweight. Now the only time I see her is when she is half naked in the tabloids being proud of her new post-pregnancy flab, sorry - 'curves' and talking about body positivity

Jimmy Carr-a-like?

"Hmm, well, I've had a great deal of bad press following that infamous TV 'episode'; plus having a surname that sounds like what B&Q deliver a builder's bag of rough gravel on isn't the most glamorous, is it? Oh well, time for a new leaf and a fresh start - beginning with a new surname, of course. Something elegant, noble and just so beautiful. Yep, that's definitely it: gotta be the one that sounds just like a word to describe the decaying flesh of dead animals!"

I mean, she took her new husband's name, so...

Gouki · 03/07/2024 18:20

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 25/06/2024 08:27

Has no one mentioned Jack Monroe and her ever-changing backstory? Initially she had a relatively average (although some might say privileged) upbringing and fell into poverty when she had to leave her job due to child care (legitimate concern for lots of families and women) but then the grift got silly with her and basically made out she was Oliver Twist, on top of a whole heap of other trauma piled on.

Yep. The first I heard of her was in a newspaper article, it might have been the Evening Standard. It just had a nice piece on her, she seemed cool. Then as the years rolled on, her childhood got more poorer and more broken.

Cant think of what year, but it would have been before Instagram, I believe.
Yeh, somepoint maybe mid 2000s?

Gouki · 03/07/2024 20:08

Treeper22 · 30/06/2024 00:50

Oh that was my exact first thought!! But it was mentioned that this author mainly writes biographies and that isn't true of L Shriver (at least I hope to god WNTTAK isn't factual 😬😅).

Also, am amused at the posters dropping by on the 18th page to guess Roxanne Pallet as if they must be the first person to work it out!

What happens is that as you're reading along, you reply to posts. I've probably made five comments or so as I've been reading through, and they will all end up on page 20.

Brainfart?

Yes, it was a silly joke.

It's interesting, I think, that most female celebrities who change their names on marriage keep their original surname for professional purposes, as they acknowledge all of the good PR and popularity with the public that they have built up whilst known under that name, and understandably don't want to lose it.

I wonder why RP wasn't upset about losing that?

I thought she was just a daughter of a fireman who became short of money due to being a single mother? I quite like her books. Dont understand why some are nasty to her. I think the MP was wrong for saying her being a single mother was a lifestyle choice.

Didn't her dad get lots of awards for work with children? Might be where she gets her campaigning spirit.

Plus its confusing if the marriages last a short while. Hasn't Cheryl gone back to Tweedy, after the long foreign double barrelled name?

Oh my sweet summer’s child. If you did some googling you would be in for a wild ride.

She’s one of the internet’s greatest grifters. IF ONLY she had stuck to the backstory being a bit hard up as a single parent (legit, sensible, likely). But on the other hand, her tattle life thread wouldn’t have become as legendary as it is.

Ok I will read the tattle thread, but last time I used tattle it was full of nasty b* tches, who got people banned for not agreeing with them.
