When you went to school with a celebrity and they lie about their story

I was listening to a pop star who was being interviewed and heard them tell some blatant lies about their background.

They claimed to never have gone to drama school or had any industry connections and miraculously was scouted.

I know this to be a complete lie. I was so surprised as to why they would lie this way. It makes no sense. It's been 20 years. No one cares that much so why lie... ?

I guess they were trying to flog something so maybe it the 'struggle story' sells better

Can you not just go in and edit it yourself?!

Surely you would soon be rumbled if you kept on lopping two or three years off here and there, on a regular basis, and then you ended up only 9 years older than your eldest child?!

I know someone who went to private school with Rishi sunak. Laughs at his story's because he said Rishi was definitely not poor just like most of the people in the school.

Not the same kind of celeb but I'm reminded of Liz Truss campaigning to become PM.

She savaged the school she went to in a Red Wall area Oop North - Roundhay School in Roundhay East, Leeds. Made it sound a terribly rundown place in a rough area, with kids unable to achieve their goals - except her, presumably, she managed to get into Oxford in spite of the school.

So just a poor working class girl who managed to pull herself up by her bootstraps. Go Liz!

Except it was a safe Tory seat for decades until 1997, and Roundhay East is a relatively affluent leafy suburb of Leeds, and the school regularly got kids into universities including Durham, Cambridge etc.

I went to school with a well known author/ broadcaster. She claimed to have left the school because she was ' bullied mercilessly'. I did not recall this, and at a recent school reunion not one person could remember such a thing happening. In fact we all thought she left our school ( girl's grammar) because she felt superior and went to a private school instead.

The thing about bullying is that it’s not always known. I changed schools because of bullying and then was bullied again at new school. Third time lucky at 16 though. I was accused of feeling ‘superior’ for changing schools the first time. No, I felt suicidal, lost and hopeless. I am sure my classmates, even the perpetrators, would deny I was bullied or don’t know or remember

This has made me think of Lily Allen. She went to school with a friend of mine, a very expensive boarding school … and when she first started releasing songs she was acting a bit like she was ‘working class’ (well if I didn’t know of her background I would assume she was a working class London girl) but she has actually led a very privileged life.

She was also quite strait laced at boarding school too !

this is just not true that either of them have lied! You can look up birth records in about 2 mins that show Kelly Brook is indeed 44 and Victoria Hervey is 47. Do people not realise it’s indexed and freely available online?

Not a celebrity … but a woman who has reached the top of her profession in PR used to work with me. She had a very lowly job but has lied to get to where she is today and claimed that she has worked in high up creative roles in the industry when in fact she was admin. I have no idea how she has got away with such blatant lies

Fake it till you make it!

I know one of the "humble beginnings" ones. Wrote an article claiming the her family was poor and deprived but they always read to her and encouraged learning. Her Dad was a headteacher, her mother a Ward Manager, not rich but definitely comfortably off. She wasn't deprived in any way at all.
