Is Reform as bad as the BNP?

Silviasilvertoes · 23/06/2024 13:30

Off the back of another thread, how does Reform compare to the BNP? I loathe Farage and haven’t taken much notice of his manifesto (contract!) as I don’t want his nonsense in my head, but DM keeps telling me what’s ‘good’ about him. She has previous form for voting UKIP and thinking Johnson was much maligned and a generally nice chap. She reads the Heil every day, so I generally let discussions about politics go over my head otherwise I’d lose my cool.

I think Farage was a great Euro MP. He stood up for British people including the appalling deal Britain had including UK fishermen (mocked by Geldof on The Thames). He is straightforward and doesn’t pretend to be anything other than he is (unlike Sunak’s ‘we couldn’t afford Sky’ or Starmer’s riches made on the immigration Legal Aid gravy train). British people are tired of the extreme liberalism that has led to people not feeling safe, including anti social behaviour, hijacking by Stonewall, and lack of immigration controls that have led to overcrowding on this small island. I doubt Farage has all the answers (and he is a bit Tory-light for my tastes), but the spectacle of what the Conservatives and Liberals, Greens and Libdems currently have to offer is so shockingly poor and childish they all deserve to do badly. But Labour will win anyway.

No he didn't. He fucked off when he was supposed to vote. 😂

Re : being held accountable, doesn't the eu parliament hold meps accountable?

I expect they would have had he turned up. I don't believe a forum where 28 (at that time) countries were debating rules proposed for the common good would be as argumentative as the UK parliament can be. It would have been a good case study though. Maybe it's why he never went.

TheRubyRedshoes · 24/06/2024 06:22

So he or any mep are not held accountable unless they turn up to a certain threshold?.. Who holds them accountable?

No of course it's not like the BNP but mumsnet will disagree because it is mostly left wing liberals who like an echo chamber. Reform has reasonable policies about limiting immigration. The BNP are far right racists.

Reform is a company, with Farage listed as the major shareholder. Any policies will have the interests of the shareholders at the forefront.

This alone should make voters think twice.

newnamethanks · 24/06/2024 06:29

It's worse than the BNP. It has absorbed it's former members and masquerades as a 'political party for everyman' when it is actually a pro-fascist recruitment organisation designed to undermine the State. If you can't see this, read some history and change your mind.

Whoever kicks out all the illegals, gets a grip on law and order and puts British people first will get my vote.
And if anyone doesn't like that, we'll who the the fuck cares 🤣🤣

And here you have your typical reform voter.

41 reform candidates found to be facebook friends with a far right figure. 1 candidate arguing we should have negotiated with Hitler. This is Reform. Make no mistake about it.

I personally feel that BNP, ukip, brexit party and reform are all pretty much same party, same values but different name.

Exactly this. The reform candidates are either ex ukipers or ex BNP members

TiredArse · 24/06/2024 08:08

I’ve seen Reform described as the bnp in a suit, and it seems pretty accurate.

The people who are actually present, debating the proposals.

It's quite hard being part of a discussion when you aren't in the same place as everyone else discussing.

For example, all the participants of this thread are having a nice discussion. People not reading, and not participating in the thread have no clue what we are talking about, and are unable to offer their opinion, or have it challenged. For the most part, as far as the EU was concerned, Farage fell into that latter category.

Maddy70 · 24/06/2024 08:12

Yes they are the same.

RobinsonsOrange · 23/06/2024 20:45

@HappiestSleeping I was just about to say this. I actually hope the fucker gets voted in, as he might finally be held accountable for the absolute shite he speaks. He is a vile, vile human being but the longer he's allowed to just speak this crap without being challenged, the worse it gets. He basically a massive racist and sorry, so are his supporters (no matter how much it's tried to be sweetened up by him "just saying it like it is" etc etc

Of course, there is always the possibility that, once elected, he wouldn't actually turn up to Parliament ever, just like he didn't for European sessions, so the whole thing becomes moot 🤣

To PP: I saw Farage’s leaving EU speech and thought it was very good. He wasn’t one of the Eurocrats there and that was a breath of fresh air. He really did try to stand up for British rights against German and French political interests (including HS2 white elephant, the diesel an electric car debacle). I totally salute him for his bravery and courage in fact, especially against the tirade of virtue-signalling personal insults (rather than political argument). He is single-handedly responsible almost for getting us out of the politically undemocratic EU. However, I feel this country is sadly lost lost lost, probably too late. Gullible neo-liberals have taken over the whole political and general social infrastructure and we have lost both freedom and a sense of reality, as well as social and community respect. The “scrotes have won”, whether Tory or Labour, it makes no odds.

No he wasn’t one of the Eurocrats there - he wasn’t anything there because he never showed up. But don’t let your adoration for a revolting chancer get in the way of the facts eh? 🙄

Ginmonkeyagain · 24/06/2024 08:33

I've read their manifesto. It's fucking laughable and their maths would shame a 6 year old.

Farage hardly even attended European Parliament to do his job.

Yes, I think most pre schoolers have a better grasp of economics

ilovesooty · 24/06/2024 08:45

If he's elected in Clacton he won't be there much. I doubt if he'll attend Parliament much either.

He was on the EU Fisheries Committee and turned up to a single meeting of the 42 held while he was a member.

@Silviasilvertoes

in answer to your question ……yes.

Kendodd · 24/06/2024 09:06

CalamitiousJoan · 24/06/2024 08:50

He was on the EU Fisheries Committee and turned up to a single meeting of the 42 held while he was a member.

And imo he just used his seat there to block anyone else getting it and stopping them working for the benefit of the British fishing industry. He then when to fishing communities in the UK, pointed the finger back at the EU and said 'look what they're doing'. So if you call doing your best to harm the UK being a good MEP, I'm sure Putin would agree with you.
