For the people that have had implants, how did you find having them done? I am deciding to go for one but have no idea what to expect.

The implant process was fine, but takes much longer than you would think when done properly. It's no wonder that Turkey Teeth go wrong - you're supposed to leave the implant/titanium root to settle/be surrounded by bone for a few months before the crown is put on, so you have to have a false tooth for a while. (Mine was a front tooth.)

Also, you can sometimes get cement under the screw(?) between the titanium and the porcelain once the crown goes on. This happened both to me and to a friend who had hers done at another practice. It makes the crown drop slightly when it happens, but it is an easy fix and then it's fine.

I was warned that I'd look like I'd been hit by a baseball bat once I'd had the titanium root put in, but my gorgeous (HA!) features were not affected in any way - no visible bruising at all.

I made a point of asking whether the porcelain bit can be replaced in future if necessary and was told yes.

@WearyAuldWumman wow infected after eating an ice cream

Yup. I remember feeling something sharp going into my gum. I found a tiny piece of stick(?) in my mouth and there was a bit of blood. Yeuch!

I had a root canal and a crown in 1999. The crown has been replaced twice, although once was I knocked it out when flossing, and the other I pulled it out with a toffee.

@WearyAuldWumman guess it went through your crowned root canal tooth that caused infection

That's possible.

@lljkk inflamed as in decay ? My stupid dentist made it worse did you take antibiotcs

there is decay but some other indication of low grade infection or maybe an immune response for other reasons. Nobody has suggested antiBs.

@lljkk if there is decay why are they not removing it
