I'm actually feeling really sorry for him. I don't think he's inherently a bad guy, I think he's trying to do what he thinks is best (completely ill informed due to being super rich) but has just been "promoted above his level of competence" and is surrounded by less vocal equivalents of Mad Nads who are furious with him about Johnson being forced out.
If I were Sunak I'd have resigned, called an election and moved to California.

I bet he's almost hoping to lose his seat so he can leave!

According to Alastair Campbell, it's the kiss of death when people start feeling sorry for a party leader. He saw it with people like Hague.

SerendipityJane · 20/06/2024 09:28

On a serious note, I hope a FHM as his (Muskness would christen it) means the new government sets up a truth and reconciliation panel for the past 5 years and slowly holds these tory fuckers to account for ever time they abused the privilege of being an MP. And I hope they do it using powers the Tories left behind.

HarperCollins is to publish former Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s memoir, Unleashed, this autumn. The book, acquired in January 2023, will be published in the UK by William Collins on Thursday 10th October and in the US by Harper on Tuesday 15th October.

I genuinely don't understand why one wouldn't want prisoners to have a vote.

I think a better question is why is someone in prison ?

Scruffily · 20/06/2024 09:31

I really want a new government to tighten up in a big way on political corruption. It's ridiculous that, for example, people can effectively buy knighthoods through big party donations, but that is effectively what has been happening.

Scruffily · 20/06/2024 09:32

Predictable comment, I know, but how many bookshops will put the Johnson memoir on the fiction shelves?

I liked the promo pic. Honestly the editing is marvellous

SerendipityJane · 20/06/2024 09:34

Do we know who is writing Johnsons book yet ?

Fuck feeling sorry for poor lickle Rish! This is a man who would happily set fire to a £50 note in front of a homeless person. As are all Tories. We know this because not a single one of the fuckers ever came out and said Boris was a cunt for doing that.

It is I, Fabio12.

Dog tax - she's not actually managed to get her paws on a sweet, but she was demonstrating her ability to unwrap one if she did.

She's constantly on top of me today (poor health) showing love in a warm but slightly crushing "I must stand on you and be super close!" kind of way.

Slightly more classical allusion in my name change. (Not quite sure how to use it yet ...)

Or just lying in a darkened room?

Fortunately they probably all have private healthcare, so the NHS won't be impacted by the upcoming mental health crisis.

Is this the reason Rish! had to have a summer election?

Looking forward to saving my money

Fans of spread betting should put a few flutters on how quickly the price of the Johnson fictionfest falls.

Monday: £29.99 in WaterSmiths and to pre-order on Amazon
Tuesday: £14.99 in WaterSmiths £10.99 Amazon
Wednesday £0.99 in the Works as part of a 3 item stickered deal including a 1886 Graham Norton calendar and some string.

I'm far more negative about him than you. I think he's a bad guy - he has done so much damage even before he got into politics.

🤣

Sorry for Rish!

Fuck that

In 2012 the UK hosted one of the most successful Olympic Games ever. The stadium was built on time and under budget, the GB team performed magnificently, and NHS doctors and nurses danced into the hearts of the world in the opening celebrations. We were, for a moment, the envy of nations. Then came austerity.
Austerity: the damage in numbers

2024 is the year that the Tory chickens come home to roost, as the consequences of utter self-serving incompetence and a heartless Treasury are revealed.

Today, Britain has by far the highest rate of homelessness in the developed world. In 2023 the rate per 10,000 people was more than twice as high as Germany and ten time higher than Norway. Rough sleeping has increased from about 1,700 in 2010 to about 4,000 in 2024.

In 2010, the number of people receiving emergency food from the Trussell Trust was 61,000. Ten years of Conservative rule later, it had risen 40 times to 2.5 million, with more than 600,000 children in poverty. In that time the government had closed 1,300 children’s centres, 600 police stations, resulting in 12,000 fewer police officers, and cut the local government funding that pays for social care by over 50%.

They had gutted our public services. The public, not the politicians, are paying the price.

Despite all the shills on here the real problem is the Conservatives are declining in percentage terms. Sunak is that bad. The more the UK sees of him the more they choose another party. Their vote is hovering at around 20 percent. Once it is consistently below that then all bets are off. They really could be cut to less than 70 seats.

In the 2024 prediction thread at New Year I predicted 80 seats.

Bur thought the chaotic squabbling Tories would force Sunak into an election by May.

I wish to apologise, I was ambushed by a name change, unfortunate thing to happen.
If there was any confusion, I am sorry to be the cause of it.

What do you mean?

DuncinToffee · 20/06/2024 10:14

Be careful what you wish for, you don't know what it was like to live under the previous Labour givernment, just look at Wales!

I loved the 2012 Olympics. We went to a few Paralympics events, absolutely great.

And makes the contrast with Starmer even more stark.

I mean that if my name change caused any confusion or upset then I am sorry that you were confused and upset.

The name just ambushed me, while I was tending to the pot plants, and one can't really help that sort of thing.

Was listening to this in the car with dd which was interesting/shocking re why we were convinced to endure austerity https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001r1s4

They continued with it as a political device, even after this was discovered.

Tony Lee, Director of the Tory Election Campaign, took leave of absence yesterday. As you do, when you work for a major political party and are two weeks off an election which is literally all that you are employed to focus on.

Mind you, his wife's gambling activities might have had something to do with it.
