Oh, and I think Rwanda has said that it will not accept refugees from the UK if we leave it.

Is it awful of me to admire Rwanda's chutzpah and rinsing of the Tory government?Blush

I thought Sunak was the best I’ve ever seen him but the worst of the bunch by miles, the most dishonest, and with the least to offer. It was all tax cuts and “but Keir Starmer…”forgetting people’s names and making assumptions about their opinions.

I don’t know why Sunak thinks being condescending and belligerent to voters is a good idea. I guess it’s what has always worked for him.

I loved the young women’s questions in particular, and the chorus of “SHAME!”

it was long but I’m glad I watched.

tobee · 21/06/2024 01:15

Just catching up as have been out all evening.

Even though all these weeks and months of opinion polls and what they are predicting, reading someone using the word "exit poll" makes me want to throw up with nerves. 😟 it's like a trigger reaction for me.

MrsMurphyIWish · 21/06/2024 06:27

I fell asleep - again! I can’t stay awake past 8.30 these days (!) but the tv was still on and I awoke abruptly to Sunak shouting “Fiona”. The more he is on TV (and not staged interviews or speeches), he is really showing his true colours. Prick.

I think it's time to place a bet. I bet that not one person associated with the Tory GE betting scandal will have any WhatsApp messages referring to what took place. All references will have unaccountably disappeared. Any takers? I think this one's a winner 💰

I bet you're right!

@tobee I know what you mean 21.59 on 4 July is going to be nerve wracking. But it will be fine. It really will.

Although I can't envisage a trail of spads queuing out of the door of Paddy Power, they're collectively daft enough to have used online accounts😣

Blackcats7 · 21/06/2024 07:08

I laughed out loud this morning when I read that Sunak is suggesting financial sanctions or sanctions on driving licences for young people who refuse national service. Who on earth thought this would be a vote winner?
Alienating young people, their parents and probably grandparents too. National service ended in 1960 so those old enough to have experienced it would have to be at least 82 now. So if he is banking on voters thinking Well it did me no harm he has a limited number of people to rely on even if all those involved agreed.
The betting thing is a total gift too. A perfect illustration of tory (lack of) ethics. The individuals named so far are the only a tiny fraction of those involved by the sound of things. Information from just one online betting shop showing an enormous increase in bets placed for an early july election were made the day before Sunak’s sodden announcement. A rise from average of £27 per day worth of bets made in previous months and weeks to suddenly £3,285. They just can’t help themselves can they? Even when the sums involved are in no way worth risking a career even if your honesty did not prevent trying such a thing. But then we must remember the ornamental duck house.

I just think back to the 2019 exit poll predictions and start to feel mildly ill

My ds was almost in tears 😢

I'm out on evening of 4th but I'll be checking my phone as soon as I can and will have my bingo card waiting at home 😊

newnamethanks · 21/06/2024 07:26

And Zahawi's chilly horses. Glad the taxpayer was able to make them feel snug in their cold stables. 14 years of grift. Well done chaps, an example to us all.

It was 2015 that was traumatic for me. I did cry, because I knew Cameron having a majority was going to be really shit and I also knew that I would lose my job. Which I did. Although it was actually the best thing that could have happened in retrospect!

We're in France, got a proxy voting for me but i'm very excited about seeing a Tory wipeout.

They have damaged this country every time they get into power.

2010 was the worst for me, followed by 2015, they campaigned for Austerity and the UK voted for it each time.

I see another private company within our public services has just been hacked.... this time blood test results, can't they get anything right?

Be careful what you wish for, you don't know what it was like to live under the previous Labour givernment, just look at Wales!

I loved the 2012 Olympics. We went to a few Paralympics events, absolutely great.

Ds is hoping to get to 2028 in LA paralympics. Para sport is fab to watch as I get to watch it frequently as ds is a para competitor.

He missed Paris by half a second - but he's only 19!

I thought 2010 was bad, yes.
2015 worse, obviously
2017 was like some sort of weird circus, and I was shocked at the result
Then 2019...
As a pp said, the UK just keeps voting for these totally self-serving morons

I'm posting my ballot today after kiers pathetic answer on the Rosie Duffield question last night, I'm doing it before he makes me so angry that I can't 😠

Sunak was...interesting last night. I imagine he thought a York audience would be pretty sympathetic? I am very pleased he got cries of "shame" (very game of thrones - maybe someone should follow him on the campaign trail ringing a bell and yelling "shame"!?)

Ed davey is a just a twat, but he's obviously enjoying himself.

I live in York - and am proud of last night's audience. I don't know how people got picked for it - it's supposed to be representative but that atmosphere last night was something else

Yes.
I love York (my dear friend used to live there so visited a lot...)
I think the audience asked some really good questions.
LOVED how tetchy Rishi gets! Like a y1 being told he can't have any more biscuits 😁
I don't imagine he's used to being held to account by the plebs..

Notonthestairs · 21/06/2024 08:06

'Nigel Farage has praised the misogynist influencer Andrew Tate for being an “important voice” for the “emasculated” and giving boys “perhaps a bit of confidence at school” in online interviews that appear to be aimed at young men over the past year.
The Reform UK leader spoke in favour of Tate for defending “male culture” in a Strike It Big podcast that aired in February, while acknowledging that the influencer had gone “over the top” and elsewhere that he had said some “pretty horrible” things.'

So thats nice.

My DH suggested the same thing @user8800 I might crack out the photoshop and see if I can stick his head on Cersei Lannisters. Gotta amuse myself somehow! I made this well before the election was announced and it still tickles me Grin

I did like how they had no idea what the next question would be. And there were many questions.

BIossomtoes · 21/06/2024 08:15

I think it’s grossly unfair to categorise Ed Davey as “a twat”. He came across really well last night and I’m really warming to him. Both he and Starmer were human and grounded and it was clear the audience appreciated that. I loved it when Starmer was asked to move away from the audience, that was quite a symbolic moment.
