Ds is hoping to get to 2028 in LA paralympics. Para sport is fab to watch as I get to watch it frequently as ds is a para competitor.

He missed Paris by half a second - but he's only 19!

How exciting!

We had quite random tickets as you had grab what became available on line but everything was so well orgnised and the atmsospehere was fantastic and it wasn't too expensive. Even public transport worked well.

I like Davey, not all of LibDem policies but he has real life experience, same with Keir Starmer.

On Rosie Duffield, she has decided to stay with Labour, so whatever the differences, she clearly isn't taken in by Sunaks "i know what a woman is" bollox.

as @BIossomtoes says, calling him a twat is completely wrong, twats don't look after their disabled children nor do they want to fix social care, the only party that has promised to look at this aspect of healthcare.

Scruffily · 21/06/2024 08:43

I don’t know why Sunak thinks being condescending and belligerent to voters is a good idea. I guess it’s what has always worked for him.

But it hasn't, really, has it? He's won the seat in Richmond because it's near-impossible for a Conservative not to do so, and he "won" election amongst Conservative MPs only on the basis there were no opponents.

IClaudine · 21/06/2024 08:44

I agree. Davey is not a twat. He has at least tried to raise the issue of living with a disability and the impact on families. None of the other leaders have mentioned it, have they.

I thought 2010 was bad, yes.
2015 worse, obviously
2017 was like some sort of weird circus, and I was shocked at the result
Then 2019...
As a pp said, the UK just keeps voting for these totally self-serving morons

I'm posting my ballot today after kiers pathetic answer on the Rosie Duffield question last night, I'm doing it before he makes me so angry that I can't 😠

Sunak was...interesting last night. I imagine he thought a York audience would be pretty sympathetic? I am very pleased he got cries of "shame" (very game of thrones - maybe someone should follow him on the campaign trail ringing a bell and yelling "shame"!?)

Ed davey is a just a twat, but he's obviously enjoying himself.

York is a Labour constituency iirc.

Piggywaspushed · 21/06/2024 08:52

I also think Ed Davey is not a twat.. he fits my definition of ' seems like a very nice man'.

Someone can have different views from someone else and still not be a twat. The pool of not twat Tories is ever shrinking but there are some. I expect.

Piggywaspushed · 21/06/2024 08:53

There was obviously quite a few uni students in the audience. York is a well known university for social sciences and leans towards the Woke.

I went there!

Scruffily · 21/06/2024 08:56

I'm superstitious about anticipating anything for the night of the 4th/5th. I always remember the thread running on MN the day of the Scottish referendum when people were planning parties in Princes Street to celebrate Scottish independence, it was quite grim as reality hit them.

BIossomtoes · 21/06/2024 09:00

I’m a York graduate too. It was stuffed with Oxbridge rejects in my day and was very Sloaney.

user8800 · 21/06/2024 09:02

Ed Davey was a liability whilst in cabinet.

He uses pathetic stunts to garner attention as he knows his policies - although I like a lot of them - are pie in the sky.

I respect your view that he isn't a twat. Doesn't alter mine.

Shocker: people don't always agree 🙄

Quoting Tony Blair and using the death of that poor girl to score points is pathetic imo.

He didn't even mention RD who is a member of his party and a sitting MP who has had multiple death threats by TRAs.

Not impressed.

And as for "why doesn't RD just leave?" Rhetoric - that is victim blaming at its worst.

BestIsWest · 21/06/2024 09:05

I really like Ed Davey and would like to see more of him in the Commons. I like Daisy Cooper too. I’d vote Lib Dem if needed for tactical purposes.

user8800 · 21/06/2024 09:06

However, my ballot is cast.

So I should probably stop listening to anything KS says until the GE!

I was one of those people who thought Tory members had rejected him because he was brown, this leadership campaign has totally changed my opinion of him. Clearly he has "small man" syndrome - Petulant and angry. If he did that in the leadership contest I'm not surprised he lost.

What was pathetic was Sunak trying to score points on trans issues when Esther Ghey was in the house. I was disgusted at the time and judging by the audience applause for KS last night, so was most of the audience.

Based on some stuff I've seen and read on twix recently I think there might be more to the RD situation than meets the eye.

I thought his answer to the transgender question last night was great. Exactly where most people are on it, very empathetic and genuine delivery. Wish that Sunak had been asked about it too.

MissMarplesNiece · 21/06/2024 09:14

I've seen quite a few Lib Dem posters around where I live - quite unusual. I live where 2 constituencies meet - my own MP has a safe Labour seat but across the road - less than 100 yards away it's been a Tory seat for years and years. It looks like the Lib Dems have been making a big effort in the Tory constituency.

You are not confused, his maternal grandfather Sir James Fawcett did indeed.

I wonder how Farage would have got on with that audience?

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/article/2024/jun/20/nigel-farage-andrew-tate-important-voice-men-podcast-interview

So much here, but the following stuck out for me.

In his Strike It Big podcast appearance in February, Farage said Tate had been “an important voice” for men, who were being told that male culture should be looked down on.

"Farage claimed that “welfarism, I’m afraid, is making millions of people lazy”.“‘I’m too fat, I’m too stupid, I’m too lazy, I don’t get out of bed in the morning. I smoke drugs, give me money’ … That’s what we’re saying. ‘I don’t need to work, the state will provide for me’"

“The race thing is even worse. The idea we should give people jobs according to how suntanned they are, the colour of their skin … the whole thing is nonsense. A guy who’s my producer at GB News is half Indian. I’m darker than he is! It’s nonsense.”

Farage said Andrew Tate was ‘important voice’ for men in podcast interview

Reform UK leader has also argued against diversity quotas and said people on benefits were ‘too stupid’ to work in appearances over past year

Yes, I wish FB had asked Sunak whether it was a coincidence that he’d jumped on the bandwagon re Gender Ideology when it became clear he was electorally toast.

IClaudine · 21/06/2024 09:29

Farage is disgusting, isn't he?

I just watched Sunak's performance from last night. He was SO rude to the young woman who asked the question about the ECHR.

BIossomtoes · 21/06/2024 09:32

I bet the atmosphere in the Sunak household is really toxic at the moment.

LlynTegid · 21/06/2024 09:36

I wish the Monster Raving Loony Party had been given a slot. Or are policies such as silent fireworks and a discount for using self service tills too sensible?

They would send misbehaving MPs to Rwanda.

Spandauer · 21/06/2024 09:36

My London constituency votes either Lib Dem or Tory and is generally a close run thing. Historically Labour are nowhere near.

We have had no mailings, leaflets or canvassing from the Tory candidate and I don't even know who they are! Very odd.

Predications are the Lib Dem candidate will win comfortably but as a Labour Party member I'm interested this time to see if Labour's vote share significantly increases.

My Labour poster is up in the porch window to encourage the neighbours! 😄

Not if the school places in California are sorted out.
