I've just had a massive declutter

Long time overdue and I said last night to myself tomorrow I will have a big declutter.
So since 9.30 this morning I got stuck in.
Room by room draw by draw
I got brutal today.
Box's and bags that have just been sitting for months have been tipped.
Draws being pulled out and emptied without thinking should I keep that.
No looking through it just binned.
Gone through my clothes surprisingly I only wear 7 outfits.
Bagged the rest and sat them outside.
Huge sign saying free they are now gone.
Along with tables chairs bedding kitchen stuff.
Other crap still a few bits left if not gone by tonight tip tomorrow.
Two runs to the tip so far.
I'm surprised at the crap I had and didn't need.
No storing in boxes I just binned and tipped.
I'm shocked with the space I have now.
I had 14 cups and mugs now I own 4.
3 duvet I mean why I use one.
A lovely couple came by and had them from the front garden.
I don't know what came over me to do it I was getting overwhelmed with clutter.
My friend said to sell what I don't want and to store the rest but to me it's still there in boxes and waiting for it to be sold.
I did read on here a comment of someone that got brutal with decluttering.
So I thought I'll do the same.
It feels so good to have soooo much less now.
I now have just a kettle on my kitchen side unlike a few hours ago 😂.
I still have one more tip run to do but gosh I feel free.
Everything I own now I can put in to my car.
I'm now a minimalist and I will try to stay as one with no more shopping unless I really need something.

I'd love to live a minimalist lifestyle, I just find with two young kids it's really difficult! I love a good clearout though, good for you!! I've listed loads on Vinted this week so I've done a wee bit.

MrsMammy · 15/06/2024 15:55

Well done!

EasterlyDirection · 15/06/2024 15:55

Wow, well done

goingdownfighting · 15/06/2024 15:56

Wow. Well done.

Toastedalmonds · 15/06/2024 15:57

That's absolutely fantastic! I'm in awe, brilliant! And all in one day?!

RedRobyn2021 · 15/06/2024 15:59

I bloody love this congratulations OP

I have a small house and we desperately need a big declutter before our next baby comes! I'll be doing this myself soon

AbstemiousBreakfast · 15/06/2024 15:59

Wow, that sounds quite extreme - but as long as you're happy with what you've kept, that's great.

I think we've become so used to having lots of stuff for the sake of it.

haddockfortea · 15/06/2024 16:00

Wowee.

Are you doing anything tomorrow...? 😂

StopInhalingRevels · 15/06/2024 16:01

How do you feel?

How do you feel?

I feel great 😸 it's like I can breathe again.
I won't let it pile up ever again.
Anything that comes in now something else will have to go.

Pinkfan2024 · 15/06/2024 16:08

I’d love to do that! I think just chucking nearly the whole lot would suit me more than going through everything and putting it in different piles.

PrettySenior · 15/06/2024 16:10

I'm so impressed! I'm working on doing the same but going much more slowly. Psychologically I find it difficult to get rid of things I paid good money for and could someday want to use. But I think it will be such a good feeling when it's done. Your post is inspiring.

I read about anglo doorstop collections on here and have had them cone and pick up 4 bin bags of clothes already. But I still have much more.

By the way just to mention it's drawers not draws. Not that my spelling and grammar is perfect or anything but as you said it several times I thought ypu might like to know.

That's what I did I didn't sort I just chucked.
I was thinking if there was anything in the drawers bags and box's I would have used it by now.
And if id started to sort half I wouldn't have go rid of hardly anything.
But I took the advice from a comment on a different thread.
About just go for it get brutal.
And I did.

You could have chucked out something vital!

PistachioCroissant · 15/06/2024 16:17

I love this, well done!

Apart from medicines, passport etc there's not much that is vital so it's a great way to do this rather than poring over every item.

DrCoconut · 15/06/2024 16:19

I'm just amazed at anyone getting a full de clutter done in a day! It took me two weeks to empty my loft.

I couldn't care less if I have chucked something vital.
My Important paperwork was in my backpack so no worries there.
Photos are in a shoe box.
I just had to knuckle down and do it.

Ooooh, gosh! Well done. Enjoy the feeling of liberation.

But ... but ... it's too scary. I hope you don't regret some of it, OP.

Yes my point I made sure ID passport important paperwork meds etc were in my bag first step.
Looking at things and thinking about it was not going to help me.

I have a small 2 bed flat.
So was easy when I got going.
Plus lent a sack barrow from next door to get large items out.

Chewinggumwall · 15/06/2024 16:25

Could you not have give it to charity?

I put most out front free to anyone.
Alot as gone now.
Id rather take it to the tip whats left as i can be dealing with all that faffing about when i can do it in one load a time to the tip and be done with it.

PithyLion · 15/06/2024 16:31
