I've just had a massive declutter

Long time overdue and I said last night to myself tomorrow I will have a big declutter.
So since 9.30 this morning I got stuck in.
Room by room draw by draw
I got brutal today.
Box's and bags that have just been sitting for months have been tipped.
Draws being pulled out and emptied without thinking should I keep that.
No looking through it just binned.
Gone through my clothes surprisingly I only wear 7 outfits.
Bagged the rest and sat them outside.
Huge sign saying free they are now gone.
Along with tables chairs bedding kitchen stuff.
Other crap still a few bits left if not gone by tonight tip tomorrow.
Two runs to the tip so far.
I'm surprised at the crap I had and didn't need.
No storing in boxes I just binned and tipped.
I'm shocked with the space I have now.
I had 14 cups and mugs now I own 4.
3 duvet I mean why I use one.
A lovely couple came by and had them from the front garden.
I don't know what came over me to do it I was getting overwhelmed with clutter.
My friend said to sell what I don't want and to store the rest but to me it's still there in boxes and waiting for it to be sold.
I did read on here a comment of someone that got brutal with decluttering.
So I thought I'll do the same.
It feels so good to have soooo much less now.
I now have just a kettle on my kitchen side unlike a few hours ago 😂.
I still have one more tip run to do but gosh I feel free.
Everything I own now I can put in to my car.
I'm now a minimalist and I will try to stay as one with no more shopping unless I really need something.

I found a DVD player we never used . Offered it on a site. Then realised I probably could get rid of DVDs too . Now have two free shelves and somebody will have the benefit of it all.

LemonySnickets · 15/06/2024 16:33

I need to do this! One day.... 😂

JustPleachy · 15/06/2024 16:33

That’s impressive! It’s the getting rid of it that takes time for me. If I put anything out on the lawn with a “free” sign the neighbours would be up in arms 😅

BatshitCrazyWoman · 15/06/2024 16:34

Well done!

I had 3 TVs one in each room.
I kept the medium one one gone to the tip not working and some lad took the other earlier on.

That’s brilliant OP! I’ve done some decluttering since getting much better physically over the last 6 months but I take ages because I look at everything as I’m clearing. Thought about getting someone in but it’s so expensive! Our main problem is bagfuls of stuff & piles of magazines etc. All the drawers in the house need doing too but they’re not rammed full. I could do with sorting out the bottom of my wardrobe though. Also kitchen table/cupboards, the avalanche of bags for life(!), storage cubes in the lounge, shoes in the hall, DH’s office & my jewellery. It’s so satisfying but as I said, I take too long. Photos will be a nightmare!

Dodgyguts · 15/06/2024 16:37

Love this!

MissDecember · 15/06/2024 16:38

Ohhh someone as just walked off with a box of bath smellies and the bag of bed sheets and covers.
At least they will get used now.

I need to do this. I retired last year and was going to do loads in the 6/7 months before my husband retired but he was mad redundant and is now encouraging me to "relax" trouble is it's been my house for 30 years and brought my kids up here. My husband has only been in my life for 6 years. 4 years at mine.

TammyJones · 15/06/2024 16:43

Well done op.
This Always energies me.

Sunshineandrainbow · 15/06/2024 16:46

Wow op please send me some motivation.
I am home alone and a week off work in a few weeks and planning to declutter but I struggle to let go massively.

I take a bag to the charity shop then pop back and get something out of it ffs.

My house gets me down so it should be easy.

Blackbeardsvest · 15/06/2024 17:24

I'd love to do this but 90% of our clutter is DH's and he'd never forgive me! I hate 'stuff' though, pretty sure I would be a minimalist if I lived on my own.

MissDecember · 15/06/2024 17:42

That's the sofa gone now thank god.
My living room looks so bright and spacious the whole decluttering as lifted the whole place.
Now have just 3 tub chairs and a small coffee table and TV in the living room.
Bedroom is a king bed with a trunk at the end with my clothes in it.
And a small shelf for my 2 bottles of perfume.
I didn't know how many pots and pans they were in the cupboard it was like I was gonna cook for the army.
Now have 2pots 1 pan plates and bowls 4 now.
I had a box full of crockery and why I had 3 tea pots idk I drink coffee 😂.
It's definitely lifted my spirits to day 😊 💪.
Still have some things out side and the car and trailer are ready for a tip run in the morning.
Along with what is left outside if it's still there.
It's like I can move and I don't have that feeling gloom.
The spare room is empty now just a made bed and bedside table in there.
It was a junk room this morning.
I have to say thank you to the poster on a different thread that said just get brutal your feel better no looking back just keep what you need and use.
Knuckle down and get brutal it works
I've been doing it all day with a few coffees in-between.
I really don't miss any of it.
Just wished I did it earlier.

Well done OP!
I'm a professional declutterer, and I'm impressed!

RabbitsRock · 15/06/2024 18:39

Frustratedashell do you mind my asking what you charge? As I said in my pp, I have had some eye watering quotes!

EmeraldRoulette · 15/06/2024 18:46

OP I am inspired! Good for you.

I had a big clear out last week but didn’t hit this level of amazing!

Im considering going minimal and also capsule wardrobe (losing weight so will see where that settles).

most of what went last week was gifts, sentimental stuff, photos. I’m in a tiny flat so it’s just pretty boxes now empty and taking up space.

going to ask on neighbours WhatsApp if anyone wants the boxes.

Columbuscircle · 15/06/2024 18:48

That must have felt amazing! I’ve been decluttering for the last year or so (4 bedrooms, a play room, dining room, living room and kitchen/diner). I go through phases of getting loads done and then leave it for a while and need to build up motivation again! Does feel good taking bags and bags to the charity shop!

EatCrow · 15/06/2024 18:50

Well done OP!

Aquarelles · 15/06/2024 18:55

I did something similar a few months ago when I downsized. I agree it's so liberating, OP Smile if I hadn't used anything that was packed in a box in 3 months, the entire box was chucked, regardless of what was in it.

Don't miss any of it. Don't regret it. It's fantastic!

oakleaffy · 15/06/2024 18:57

@MissDecember WELL DONE!

Mum knew a wonderful woman who illustrated a book called ''Dora the storer''

It was about a woman who got rid of all her clutter...... And then began again as she found her house so empty!

I'm jealous of your bravery and discipline.

I've just had a massive declutter
Pudmyboy · 15/06/2024 18:59

I am in awe, I am sloowwwlllyy getting through my crap, love what you have done in a day !

FknOmniShambles · 15/06/2024 19:03

Nice work!
I'm going to my niece's bday party tomorrow and DP offered to stay home and de-utter the house instead of going. I have jumped on this and given him a massive list - bargain in my view!

FluffyJellyCat · 15/06/2024 19:13

I'm always decluttering but I couldn't do that. Well done OP
