Anyone else hating the weather?

What is there to enjoy about this.

Its going to start to get darker again soon.

I’ve had enough of wearing waterproofs outside. I would like to sit in my garden. Maybe it would dry out long enough to do some gardening.

Id like to not be cold outdoors after 5pm - or to be honest, just in the middle of the day.

Id like to spend the day in the park or at the beach. I’d like to sit in the sun enjoying a rosé.

This truly must be the worst June on record.

I hate it.

I'm going to a gig tonight. When I booked I had visions of floaty summer dresses and cool drinks. I'm going to need my boots and mac. Sucks.

DS is camping at Download. I'm hoping their tent doesn't get washed away on a tide of mud - and that he thought to pack some warm clothing!

At the risk of jinxing it, the forecast is looking better from 21st June onwards - actual sun and temps around 23 degrees C! I'm still sitting here in scarf and jumper...

We are off to Devon that Saturday . At the moment I'm seeing 19 degrees and ☀️ ☀️☀️ with a bit of ⛅️ so 🤞🤞🤞!

I hate it. I love summer and it just hasn’t materialised. It’s the grey that’s killing me - no proper sunshine or light.

However. Don’t blame the ones who love dreary weather. Blame fossil fuels. And do everything you can to reduce them, as the more we heat the climate, the worse - the wetter, stormier, more unpredictable - it will become.

July and August still might be a lot hotter.

I don't actually mind this weather but it would be nice to have a few weeks of brighter, less wet weather at least.

catwithflowers · 15/06/2024 20:43

I've just lit the fire 🙈. We have been out for the last few hours in the rain and just got so chilled. Seems ridiculous but it is what it is. We turned the Aga off a month ago 'because it's summer' and the kitchen has been really cold with the exception of a few nice days. 🔥

TheTartfulLodger · 15/06/2024 20:46

Thunder earlier but it's thoroughly depressing this weather. Where us actual summer?

I'm one of those aliens who actually loves winter. I love the dark and the gloom and the cold. Just not in fucking June, because I also love summer.

However this afternoon it has been thundering and hailing where I am and I've been sulking inside in the largest jumper I own. I just want us to have four distinct seasons again, because there's a lot to love about all four, instead of this wet mashup all year round.

Totally agree with your post. I love the distinct seasons. I love cold and dark and snow ...... IN DECEMBER/JANUARY. It doesn't have to be hot in June, just warm enough to not be sitting in a tee shirt, a jumper and a fleece in front of a log fire 🙈

daffodilandtulip · 15/06/2024 21:31

I keep doing a "last wash" of the oodies, then bringing them back out. I turned my light on to read at 3pm this afternoon. I'm actually contemplating artificial grass because you can never cut the lawn, nor stand on the bog it has become.

It doesn't stop me going out and stuff, but it would be so much nicer to do it in a dress and sandals!

Waitingfordoggo · 15/06/2024 21:34

I’m not a hot chocolate cosy snuggler necessarily, but I just think there’s nothing any of us can do about it (except try and look after the planet better if this unseasonable weather is a symptom of climate change). So it’s pointless getting vexed about it 🤷🏼‍♀️

There is an actual thread about people loving this weather. It’s verging on selfish!! It’s been shit for about a year FFS. I’m going to an outdoor party tonight. Everyone is going to be freezing. What a shame.

Yet the lazy blanket festerers are still loving it. Don’t even they want a change?? I don’t want it to be hot all year I’d just like it not to feel like March in June..it’s very depressing.

I am getting sweary and cross on the other thread.

Edited

I'm a self proclaimed lazy blanket festerer (under one right now) and I don't like hot weather over 25 degrees really, but even I've had enough. It's just relentless and miserable now. It's almost the solstice and will be getting darker in the evenings again soon!

newyear2024 · 15/06/2024 21:51

I agree OP. I'm a self confessed autumn/hotchocolate/rainy days fan BUT I need a bloody summer so I can appreciate and look forward to autumn and the change of weather. It's just been endless dreary, rainy, windy days and this year has flown by. I'm ready to moan about the heat and sunburn etc then be excited for dark nights and halloween

ThatTimeIKnewFamousPeople · 15/06/2024 22:12

Anyone else totally adjusting expectations now? I'm like, oh amazing it's going to be 14 degrees and sunny tomorrow, hooray!! I'm just desperate for sun, I'll take any sun... To hope for actual heat seems like such a fantasy at this point!

All the people saying the nights will be drawing in soon are making me anxious, please stop 😭

Have a bit of empathy - so many events cancelled because of this shit weather, kids can’t do their sports events, people’s mental health is suffering, farmers are screwed. Yet you lot just witter on about how happy you are that it’s raining again. It’s infuriating.

If you don’t like to hear kids playing football outside then that says a lot about you as a person. I love to hear kids playing and people enjoying themselves.

Do you? Not where I live. It’s not cute little kids dressed up in Angel wings batting a ballon to each other; it’s kids with no boundaries whacking balls off fences, booting fences. Total nightmare in the summer

Yes to adjusting expectations, but I think that’s a a positive thing! How nice to be able to feel a bit joyful about 14°. Helps us appreciate what we have instead of feeling cross about what we can’t have.

The longer term forecasts seem to suggest warmer, more settled weather could come for much of July. For once it might be summery when the schools break up- often we have a ridiculous heatwave in May/June and then it turns to shit for the school hols.

EdithStourton · 15/06/2024 22:28

I know a bloke who is an agricultural contractor. He has been doom and despondency for the last month.

I am fucking sick of it. We had three downpours today. I returned from dog walks five minutes before two of them burst out of the heavens, so it could have been worse.

ThatTimeIKnewFamousPeople · 15/06/2024 22:40

@Waitingfordoggo you give me hope!!!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 15/06/2024 23:15

My phone keeps serving me those “on this day last year” photos, and it’s all summer frocks and beer gardens. Right now I am in joggers, an alpaca knit, and big chunky socks my friend’s mum knitted for me. Peak November outfit really.

I’m going for dinner with a friend tomorrow at a place which has a lovely beer garden. Last year we’d been twice and sat out with food/drinks. Tomorrow I have made a booking for inside and hope it’s by the fire.

Did anyone actually say that though??

Yes. On this thread:

Why people want it to be cold so they can do things to get warm year in year out baffles me.

I don't get it either. They don't like being warm, so why do they need a blanket and hot chocolate?

When (I hope it is when and not if) we get some warm weather I will positively gloat on the I hate summer threads. The summer haters don't seem to be aware of how lucky they are that they only get a few days of uncomfortable weather (for them), while those of us who hate this kind of weather have to endur it for most of the year.

I felt really hopeful in April thinking, it's nearly May, 4 months of nice weather to Look forward to. There's been maybe 4 nice days since then? So so fed up of it, just relentless cold, wet, grey weather. It hailed today FFS. TWICE!!!

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 16/06/2024 02:13

Its blowing a gale outside, feels autumnal. Really sick of it.

ControlShiftDelete · 16/06/2024 02:20

I saw a meme today saying something along the lines how exciting it is to have lighter evenings at least we get to see the rain for longer.
