Anyone else hating the weather?

What is there to enjoy about this.

Its going to start to get darker again soon.

I’ve had enough of wearing waterproofs outside. I would like to sit in my garden. Maybe it would dry out long enough to do some gardening.

Id like to not be cold outdoors after 5pm - or to be honest, just in the middle of the day.

Id like to spend the day in the park or at the beach. I’d like to sit in the sun enjoying a rosé.

This truly must be the worst June on record.

I hate it.

I'm just outside London and we've just had torrential rain and thunder. It's bloody relentless!

longdistanceclaraclara · 15/06/2024 14:35

It's shit and putting me in a very bad mood.

40+ here in Cyprus, school was closed yesterday and even just putting the bins out is unbearable,I would sell my soul right now for a bit of rain or breeze and to be able to let my kids go outside safely before 7pm😒🤣

There is an actual thread about people loving this weather. It’s verging on selfish!! It’s been shit for about a year FFS. I’m going to an outdoor party tonight. Everyone is going to be freezing. What a shame.

Yet the lazy blanket festerers are still loving it. Don’t even they want a change?? I don’t want it to be hot all year I’d just like it not to feel like March in June..it’s very depressing.

I am getting sweary and cross on the other thread.

I see it as goady shit tbf.

Bewareofthisonetoo · 15/06/2024 14:40

Totally agree.
(Literally) the middle of June and am indoors listening to rain pelting down- normally would be on the river now

MidnightPatrol · 15/06/2024 14:44

It’s hilarious that people enjoy the bad weather because they don’t have to hear other people enjoying themselves outside.

Erk, don't normally come on weather threads but looked up the other day and it was hailing outside my studio window, and today I got drenched in a howling storm when I popped out to get some stuff for an evening birthday picnic later today... Which has already had to be rescheduled several times. Still have a hot water bottle for bed most nights and it's starting to get me down!

EatCrow · 15/06/2024 14:47

Think this is heading out way shortly!

It's every day.
Every day.

You look at forecast for tomorrow, and think ok it looks dry then two hours later, raindrops.

So it's difficult to plan.

Not to mention the fucking up of bees, they can't pollinate in the rain, and other insects, which means birds and fledglings can't thrive.

But hey Susan can have another hot chocolate under a blanket and can't hear next door neighbours kids so we should all be fucking thankful yes?

And just for balance, for the cosy blanket lot, I do love a rainstorm, IN OCTOBER, I have a window seat at the top of house and sitting right under window, view across to woods, rain hammering down, tea and a book is great. But that's then, not when another day of the kids not hanging at the park or just walking to the shops carefree for a bit, happy, out, seeing where the day takes them. Yes I know I know they are our teens and not any one else's problem, we can and do entertainment them at home, but you only get a handful of summers when teenage.

So yeah it's pants. More so for our teens who like playing ball in the park. And for others with dogs, toddlers, outdoor jobs, farms, crops, vit D deficiency, just a general love of life going out and hanging out.

Even H has noticed how wet it is and that's unheard of!

The farmers are going to be screwed with this shit, for all those twats saying how they can’t bear anything over 18 degrees. We have had only TWO days of decent weather - one at 18 degrees and another at 20. The average temperate (FEELS like temperature) has been 9 degrees. And endless wind and rain. All year and in June. But, you know, remember that day when it snowed in June decades ago, as if that means anything.

Meanwhile we’re paying top price for utterly vile fruit and veg that’s past its sell by date before it even gets on the plane from another country.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 15/06/2024 14:47

I’m close to emigrating- feeling severely depressed, have been in the same clothes and soft play for the past 10 months.

I see it as goady shit tbf.

It’s goady, selfish and tone deaf.

YorkieTheRabbit · 15/06/2024 15:36

Chucking it down yet again and it’s 10 degrees!
Seriously, 10 degrees is not normal for the middle of June.
We had a few decent days in May but that’s more or less been it. When it hasn’t rained it’s been cold and windy.
I’m well and truly sick of it.

Jadedbuthappy82 · 15/06/2024 15:40

I was thinking yesterday how weird it is not to having the daily battle of spraying the little ones with suncream... They've still got their winter coats on 😥

Dontcallmescarface · 15/06/2024 15:42

I hate it. I often think that if Narnia was in a perpetual Autumn rather than Winter, it would be renamed the UK.

EatCrow · 15/06/2024 15:55

Delatron · 15/06/2024 15:28

It’s goady, selfish and tone deaf.

Yep and definitely designed to be that way.

Loafbeginsat60 · 15/06/2024 16:06

I'm
In the north of Scotland and got my legs burnt today sitting on my patio. It's really warm here

Yesterday was mild too but this is literally the first nice day of summer since those few days we had in May.

Hopefully this is the turning point - but guaranteed tomorrow it will be wet and cold again. We start summer holidays in 2 weeks and I am dreading 7 weeks of rain and cold. Please no!! There is nothing to do here when it rains....

Why is it “selfish” to not mind what the weather is doing at the moment? There’s nothing we can do about it. Why does everyone have to love the hotter weather? I don’t because of the problems it brings where I live. Kids with footballs, shouting in gardens etc. We all have our own preferences

Tumbleweed101 · 15/06/2024 16:22

Forecast for the next week is looking a bit better here. Hitting low 20's and less rain showing. Let's hope it pans out that way.

I like it being about 23C - sunny and warm without being too hot. It isn't so much the temp though, it's the dull grey and rain that isn't great.

Not kids playing and enjoying themselves! The horror!! Children should be sitting silently inside in a dark room.

Dontcallmescarface · 15/06/2024 16:23

I'm trying to stay optimistic for a summer. I'm old enough to remember the much lauded "Summer of '76" and iIrc that kicked off at the end of June following a very wet spell. It doesn't need to be 30 degrees+ mid 20's will do. I live in hope.

Maidentale · 15/06/2024 16:23

SoupDragon · 15/06/2024 12:52

I even thought about putting the central heating on the other day! I didn't, obviously, because it's JUNE and I refuse to.

I'm worried I won't get enough "summer" to see me through the shit months.

Edited

That's exactly how I feel.

We're tenants on a farm and the last 11 months (yes 11 - it started raining in July 2023) and it's hardly stopped raining. We were tearing our hair out over winter with the ground being so wet and trying to deal with animals in fields that were turning into swamps.

It'll soon be Spring we'd say and we'd pray for sun, warmth and dry weather and look what we have sodding well got. I just can't bear the thought of going into another autumn/winter without the ground not having had a seriously good drying out. Practically it's a nightmare but it's also mentally very draining. 😢😢😢

DrCoconut · 15/06/2024 16:24

I'm going to a gig tonight. When I booked I had visions of floaty summer dresses and cool drinks. I'm going to need my boots and mac. Sucks.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 15/06/2024 16:28

Me. Feel so depressed.

virgocatlover · 15/06/2024 16:28

I e already decided it's not worth buying any new summer clothes this year. And I barely bought anything last year. Most of my summer clothes are at least 3-5 years old. All I've purchased this year is a pair of shorts and sandals and I doubt they will get more than a few weeks wear.

In 3 months (or less) we will be back into autumn clothes for the most part, and I'm sure we will have many wet and less than warm days in between.

Snackpocket · 15/06/2024 16:29

I hate it. I want to be outside not on the sofa under a blanket. These lovely light evenings are wasted as it just rains. I need to feel warmth on my skin!
