Anyone else hating the weather?

What is there to enjoy about this.

Its going to start to get darker again soon.

I’ve had enough of wearing waterproofs outside. I would like to sit in my garden. Maybe it would dry out long enough to do some gardening.

Id like to not be cold outdoors after 5pm - or to be honest, just in the middle of the day.

Id like to spend the day in the park or at the beach. I’d like to sit in the sun enjoying a rosé.

This truly must be the worst June on record.

I hate it.

I'm also worried about the heating bill- it's been on and off since April still when usually it would have been off by now.

SalmonWellington · 15/06/2024 18:28

It's climate change.

It's climate change.

Sadly no think this is it, for us in the UK it simply means wetter weather. Utterly depressing 😩 I really struggled through the winter, have never been so low. I came very close to needing anti depressants, in fact I probably should have had them. If we don't get a summer I'm really worried about how I'm going to cope.

Do you live in South London? Thought not

Well, you thought wrong 😂

Are South London children not meant to enjoy themselves outside then?

It’s hilarious that people enjoy the bad weather because they don’t have to hear other people enjoying themselves outside.

It’s not that hilarious when your neighbours are a group of weed smoking, shouting-until-1am, drunken singing in the garden, blasting music bastards!

virgocatlover · 15/06/2024 18:50

I think this is almost worse than actual winter, at least then we know what to expect and can look forward to brighter days. When it's like this in JUNE it makes me so demotivated and miserable. And the days will start getting shorter in less than a week!

Lzzyisgod · 15/06/2024 18:58

I've always enjoyed the difference and the change of the seasons - the first warmth of Spring, the hotter heat of summer with cool rain, the first nip in the air of Autumn and then crisp winter mornings.

That's what I'll miss this year if this dampness continues. Plus its frustrating as i have many garden jobs to do and the rain is not helping get them done!

Same here. It’s what made the UK so brilliant. There was nothing like a spring day here. I like watching period dramas and they’re the only times I get to experience how it used to be.

I'm hoping that the fact my dog is shedding, she normally just moults continuously, is a good omen. She is a mix with shedding breeds in her but doesn't normally do it. The fur..OMG..the fur!!!

MidnightPatrol · 15/06/2024 12:55

That is what I worry about @SoupDragon

I need some nice months to get me through the winter.

Currently it’s just going to be a perpetual winter - I’m going to have to visit the Canary Islands in November and January or something to just keep me sane. I can’t do proper winter sun as I have v small children. Aaahhhg.

I wouldn't mind if it was great last summer but it's been a miserable 12 months now. Last June was good but bar the odd days here and there been crap since.

Sad, downcast face then hilarious laughing face. Yes I feel your hot pain.

Oh dear...really sorry you feel that way.I don't put too much stock in emojis to be honest and assume other adults do the same 🤣🤣🤣🤣

scalt · 15/06/2024 19:28

I'm still hoping that July might be better, and that it's a late summer this year. Last year it was a different problem: the best of the warm weather was while children were still in school, and teenagers were still doing exams. They're not missing out this time (except possibly with school fairs and sports days).

We have waited sooooooo long for nice weather. It's the fault of all those Mumsnetters who moan about the heat every year. 😉They need to be more careful what they wish for. Or maybe they're hoping to find a magic ring to take them to Narnia: the book The Magician's Nephew happens "during one of the coldest and wettest summers that Digory had known".

I feel the same

40+ here in Cyprus, school was closed yesterday and even just putting the bins out is unbearable,I would sell my soul right now for a bit of rain or breeze and to be able to let my kids go outside safely before 7pm😒🤣

Edited

This is kind of comforting. Thankyou. The gloom and dinge is really pissing me off, I hate the heat. If I had to choose between this and 40 degrees, I'd settle for this.

That said, we've had possibly the worst run of bad weather I can ever remember. I'm 47 now, and have lived in the UK all my life, but have never known it so shit for so long. It began back in November (or possibly before). We've had about eight or nine months of endless grey, cloudy gloom. It must be some kind of record. Spring was the worst I've ever known. I think we had about two sunny days in the whole of March. I've been told the jet stream is stuck, so I assume Ireland, Holland and northern France are having a bad time as well.

Still, better that than people dropping dead in the street. Michael Mosley seems to have quite literally been killed by the heat. In Delhi last week it hit a record breaking 52, and in Athens they had to the shut the acropolis because it hit 45.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 15/06/2024 19:48

I have SAD and my mental health will be really bad if this summer is as good as it gets. I feel so despondent.

Ispywithmylittlepie · 15/06/2024 19:51

I've been moaning about it. I organised my summer wardrobe and I knew deep down that most of it won't be worn due to the shit weather we have here. It's crap. I wanted to take the kids out today but no, we are sitting round the table with paint, glue and bloody glitter. I've got so much to do in the garden, I'm itching to get us all out tidying, having fun and putting our new solar lights up, for what will be one day of sunshine at this rate. I can remember the late 80s when I was little and so much sunshine. My kids won't remember anything like that. They will remember wellies and wearing coats and mum saying she wants the heating on.

MonsteraMama · 15/06/2024 19:53

I'm one of those aliens who actually loves winter. I love the dark and the gloom and the cold. Just not in fucking June, because I also love summer.

However this afternoon it has been thundering and hailing where I am and I've been sulking inside in the largest jumper I own. I just want us to have four distinct seasons again, because there's a lot to love about all four, instead of this wet mashup all year round.

Combattingthemoaners · 15/06/2024 19:55

My daughter is only a baby so it doesn’t really apply to me but I honestly pray it improves for those with older children during the 6 weeks holidays. Imagine 6 weeks of this, stuck in the house or out getting soaked. Unbearable!

Did anyone actually say that though??

Literally two posts above yours is someone complaining about ‘kids with footballs’.

I have been married to DH for 30 years and he is nearly 60. I have never heard him say this before "I feel I'm becoming depressed because of the weather" but he said it this week. I'm on the same page.

Well, there will always be some other country that has more heat but does this comparison have to be brought up every single time?

People are seriously struggling in this country, some with very serious depression. People are be worried about the cost of heating and mums with children are feeling trapped and lost, it also costing them more money.

WeaselCheeks · 15/06/2024 20:09

I hate this weather, and it genuinely fucks with my mental state. I need an actual summer to get through the winter, but it's been so fucking wet, cold and miserable. I can't even go abroad because we've got a dog, so we're pretty much condemned to shitty grey wetness. No lovely walks or rides in the sunshine.

Sure, you can still go out, but you have to be willing to get soaked or covered in mud. Everything gets covered in grit, grime, etc. It's relentless.

Also, I want to dry my clothes outside, not have my heating on, ffs.

And most people save money on energy during the warmer months so they have some for winter but that’s going to have a knock on effect. It’s bleak and we have every right to have a moan. There’s a specific thread on here for people who love this ‘coolness’ but they can’t resist coming on here patronising people.
