WhatsApp Groups - How many are you in?

Idontjetwashthefucker · 13/06/2024 10:33

We've got This Morning on in the background at work and apparently the average Brit is in 83 WhatsApp groups.

That can't be true can it? I'm in one, am I the unusual one?

2, work and DD's wedding.

Oneblindmouse · 13/06/2024 16:20
  1. One is for volunteers of charity I volunteer at. The other is a family one
Beginningless · 13/06/2024 16:26

Sounds about right, but most of them not active. Active ones are my side of family, DH side of family, uni friend group, work friend group x3/4, school mums, some to do with a volunteering role, neighbours in my culdesac…etc. Inactive are various old bday parties and the like.

BulldogMumma · 13/06/2024 16:27

I'm in 2. One is for work and the other is a WhatsApp group with my sisters

DogInATent · 13/06/2024 16:29

4 active groups.

There'll probably be a fifth later in the month for an upcoming family gathering, but that will only be active for a fortnight at most based on previous similar events.

LifeofBrienne · 13/06/2024 16:47

I’m in easily that many in total as e.g. a new group is set up for every kids’ party invitation. About 15 active ones for work/friends/family.
Groups are generally just left there inactive which is better I think as otherwise there’s an annoying cascade of notifications as everyone leaves!

Arcadia · 13/06/2024 16:48

I'm surprised - just counted 81 groups - but quite a few of them old now (kids parties).

83 is insane. I'm in one and its muted!

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 13/06/2024 16:49

9 active ones. Only 2 that aren't active.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 13/06/2024 16:50

Thanks for all your responses, there's a real mix isn't there of those who have lots and those who have very few or none.

None. I didn’t reinstall the app when I switched phones.

spicysamosahotcupoftea · 13/06/2024 16:59

I'm in 7. Have been in more (kids friends birthday parties etc) but I always remove myself and delete a few days after the event

mindutopia · 13/06/2024 16:59

I’m in 3.

Dh’s family one, which I mostly ignore, unless someone has had a baby or died.

We have a group with the neighbours so we can all find our children.

And then there’s a separate group with just the mums of the neighbour kids for discussing anything without the dads.

I’m not a messager though and generally don’t respond to people who message me unless it’s urgent. Dh often needs to remind me to check the family one if something bad has happened or it’s someone’s birthday.

longdistanceclaraclara · 13/06/2024 17:01

Two. One pta and one year group.

Cornishclio · 13/06/2024 17:05

I have just added mine up and archived some unused ones. I have 33 chats and 10 of them are groups. The rest are individual friends or relatives. The groups are generally meet ups for book clubs, old work colleagues, walking groups or shared travel. The main ones are a family group chat and extended family chat.

Suncreamfootball · 13/06/2024 17:06

115 which is just ridiculous most of them are the kids bday party groups/play date things. Only really active ones are the school mums x2, football training x2, kickboxing and 2x family groups

TippedOverTheGravyJug · 13/06/2024 17:12

2 school ones
Old work one but still see the people so it's now a social one

Then 4 messenger groups. 2 family, 1 social and 1 for school runs as a group of us help each other with collections

PuppetQueen · 13/06/2024 17:16

I've just counted and was surprised to discover that I'm in 81 Whatsapp groups, but the vast majority were set up for a child's birthday party etc, and are no longer active.

I'm in nine active groups.

itsgettingweird · 13/06/2024 17:19

Less than 10.

Family one, extended family, sons sports squad for parents, volunteering group, siblings one - and then the odd few that crop up and disappear for organising things but that's only a few active at a time for a very short period.

Most are also muted (all but family ones!) so I only check them when I have time

Peony15 · 13/06/2024 17:23

I chat to people individually, not in groups.
DParents
don't use mobiles let
alone whatsapp.
1 - DH + 2 DC's
3 - work ones and that's crazy enough with 100 + members in each group.

83 avarage seems beyond crazy.

Shushquite · 13/06/2024 17:25

I'm in five. Two for my family, one without dad. Two for work and one sewing club. Dm insisted on having a group chat without dad. They are divorced and he has enough of WhatsApp groups.

kezzykicks · 13/06/2024 17:27
  1. About 15 of them are various work ones and loads of kids clubs, different family and friends groups.
meltedchocolateandstrawberries · 13/06/2024 17:28

I've got 6 that are currently active and likely to remain that way. 3 are family related, 2 are mum friends and one for my son's school class. 83 is insane! I couldn't bear that🤯

Hotttchoc · 13/06/2024 17:40

83 seems like a lot but then I've been in a lot of temporary or ad hoc groups for hen do or buying gifts and if they are counted it could be 30-40

Main ones maybe under ten

Soñando25 · 13/06/2024 18:30
  1. Seems a good number to me 😊
