Nothing makes me cry except.........

I'm an ice queen. All my friends and family agree. I never cry.

Except now I'm peri menopausal and every time I see a Taylor Swift bridge clip on Insta I become overwhelmed with emotion.

She make me cry!!

What makes you blub?

The bluey episode - sleepytime. Every single time.

CapitanSandy · 12/06/2024 19:10

Quite a few things. Certain songs, kids singing, people winning things or doing well. Any videos involving poorly pets

DaintyYellowShoes · 12/06/2024 19:11

Nothing. I have a heart of stone.

A song called Walking Her Home.

Videos online of dogs being reunited with their owners, being rescued or getting out of a shelter into a home.

Every time one of my kids hit anything even vaguely like a milestone.

Any documentaries to do with the war.

The end of PS I Love You where he says "you were my life, I was just a chapter in yours"

(Also peri menopausal)

GoodHeavens99 · 12/06/2024 19:20

I have a pitch black, cynical heart. 🖤

But the Sade song By Your Side makes me break down into ugly tears.

Singleandproud · 12/06/2024 19:22

I tear up when I see people doing what they are good at, particularly theatre things when you know they probably started training at a very young age and are getting to live out their dreams, particularly when many of them probably thought it would never happen due to lockdown.
TS does the same to me too, when you see those stadiums filled to the brim just of people who want to see her, obviously she came from a well off family to begin with but she knew what she wanted and went for it, seemingly completely self driven but supported by family. I think if how proud her parents must be when they go to her concerts and see what she's built from a teen at her own first gigs only playing to a handful of people.

SydneyCarton · 12/06/2024 19:22

When I was swimming in post partum hormones, I burst into tears at an advert for Colmans shepherds pie mix, and when I heard Forever in Blue Jeans on the radio 🤣

Now I’m (possibly) perimenopausal loads of things set me off, but I’ve always choked up at the end of A Tale of Two Cities “It is a far far better thing I do than I have ever done. It is a far far better rest I go to than I have ever known”

sunshinechaser · 12/06/2024 19:25

I am going to try all these things to see if they make me cry. I just can't do it! I haven't cried I think for about ten years. I'm so jealous of those that are quick to cry as I think it makes them seem like warm people. I think I'm a nice person but I have a heart of stone!

StarDolphins · 12/06/2024 19:27

There’s only 1 thing in life I cry about and it’s losing my pets. The last time I cried was 2.5 years ago when I lost my cat. The next time I cry will be when I lose my dog.

vidflex · 12/06/2024 19:29

My grandkids make me cry all the time. Every assembly I go to, nativity, sports day etc and in there blubbing. I wasn't like this with my dc, I'd get choked up but never full on crying.

Theedgeoftheabyss · 12/06/2024 19:29

1000 animals dead in a market fire in Thailand.

Catchlock · 12/06/2024 19:33

@Singleandproud I agree. TS is one woman I'm so proud off. She's faced so much shit from people and still she bounces back with the most inspiring lyrics.
So many songs I've listened to and been surprised it's how I feel but didn't know how to vocalise.
Amazing.

I cry daily. Not in a sad or depressed way. I love my life. But it’s takes anything from an advert on tv to seeing something beautiful in nature!

WelcomeToMonkeyTown · 12/06/2024 19:33

When my eldest daughter left kindergarten the kids all sang this song about how much fun kindergarten was, but now they have to say goodbye and move on to school.

It lists all the fun things they did: shared breakfasts; Easter bunny visits, the playground: crafts ... and then just drops in lines like "it was wonderful, but we won't do it any more..." and "we have to move on..."

When it gets to the line "we're now ready for school" i just sob.

My kids play it on Spotify deliberately to make me cry and it gets me every time!

Also - it's in GERMAN but it's still just so emotional.

I agree. That song is so emotional.

Singleandproud · 12/06/2024 19:41

@sunshinechaser I never actually cry but definitely a welling up and a burning throat - the pre crying I guess.

The last time I actually cried tears I think was watching that remote concert organised by Lady Gaga during lockdown, it was fairly near the start of the pandemic when everything was pretty scary and death toll was climbing rapidly and the videos of what was happening in China and how people were being treated were being shared and our govt clearly didn't have a clue. I think it was a general stress relief to the whole thing. I think that same day my brother had what turned out to be a cold but there was no testing and he lives with my parents and I realized if they all got it and died I'd be all alone in the world with just DD which was quite a sobering thought .

A Star is born at the end where Jackson walks into the garage to hang himself because he can't help taking the tablets .

Titanic when the water rushes in and the old couple cuddle up in bed .

Angela's ash's - we are too many

LoobyDoop2 · 12/06/2024 20:17

I was thinking about this today! Spent half the afternoon being shouted at by directors and having my basic competence called into question. Fine. Grew up in a house where there was always at least one parent shouting. It’s like water off a duck’s back, I can either stand my ground or let it roll over me, and walk away completely unperturbed. Ten minutes of my boss being nice and saying it wasn’t my fault and it shouldn’t have happened, and I’m still not really back in one piece. Bizarre.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/06/2024 20:26

I can’t get through Allan Albergs book “kicking a ball” with ds without choking up.

DeadbeatYoda · 12/06/2024 20:29

Menopausal welling-up happens all the time. Happy things, sad things, people singing together, you name it. I'm so sick of it.

TheaBrandt · 12/06/2024 20:35

Lots and it’s getting worse!

Father of the bride speeches
carols and certain hymns
young people doing things really well and adults being proud of them (end of Billy Elliott when he leaps on stage)
yes also many TS songs

I have one clip from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind where he begs to keep one memory, going 'no just this one, just let me keep this one'

YouCouldChokeADozenDonkeysOnThat · 12/06/2024 20:43

My cold heart is usually melted by a certain brand of achievement+struggle, usually sporting achievements but not all of them! You know when you are really rooting for someone and they are sooo happy they have won, or their parents are, or sometimes so broken to have lost? That often gets me.

A similar topic but different thing, but I remember watching that clip of the Brownlee brothers finishing a triathlon a few years ago. I of course knew of them, but don't follow the sport closely and just happened to put the TV on for the last few mins. When Jonny was leading but his legs turned to jelly and he was off his rocker with exhaustion in the home stretch, and Alistair caught up and practically dragged him across to the line, then the brotherly unceremonious shove across it... It ended me 😂

ghostbusters · 12/06/2024 20:45

Bagpipes, especially a lone piper, and a full pipe band.
