Nothing makes me cry except.........

I'm an ice queen. All my friends and family agree. I never cry.

Except now I'm peri menopausal and every time I see a Taylor Swift bridge clip on Insta I become overwhelmed with emotion.

She make me cry!!

What makes you blub?

OP posts:
LindorDoubleChoc · 12/06/2024 20:45

I am the same OP, I just don't cry. My Mum died in January and I only cried on the day I got the news (sadly wasn't with her as it was unexpected) and on the day before her funeral. I haven't cried since. So I think that proves my credentials as a non-crier Grin.

BUT the theme music to the 1970s TV show Black Beauty has me sobbing every time I hear it. Especially if watching the video at the same time of that black stallion galloping through the fields. Got tears even thinking about it and writing it down!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 12/06/2024 20:47

The last time I remember properly gut sobbing at something was at the cinema watching Lion.

Unless there’s some joke I’m not getting, what could possibly be funny about that?

Also peri and have gone from nothing touching my cold black heart, to getting emotional when I see babies and toddlers because I only have one baby and one toddler in my circle left to cuddle and they are growing up too fast.

And hearing One Day Like This by Elbow, and that song from Twilight about loving someone for a thousand years, that everyone walked down the aisle to a few years ago, because I have really happy memories associated with them.

ETA Welsh male voice choirs, bizarrely. Calon Lan makes me sob.

BillieEyelash1 · 12/06/2024 20:52

Champagne problems makes me cry! There’s quite. A few TS songs that do tbh

YouCouldChokeADozenDonkeysOnThat · 12/06/2024 20:53

Nooo, not Black Beauty..... 😱😭😆
Maybe this is why I'm fairly hard hearted now, I had to toughen up fast after reading that at an impressionable age, then watching the film a few years later.. I didn't know there was a series too.
Between reading that and the Animals of Farthing Wood (the one with the injured fox) ....

Not sure whether you’ve expressed yourself really bloody clumsily or there’s something seriously wrong with you, but I’ve reported your post.

Why?

TuesdayWhistler · 12/06/2024 21:08

Music has the biggest sway on my emotions.. and animals..

ArcticBells · 12/06/2024 21:10

Anything to do with animal suffering. I can't watch David Attenborough programmes because of the sheer beauty of nature but also the cruelty of nature.

jellybe · 12/06/2024 21:10

Lots of things but today was the episode of greys anatomy when George dies. I was blubbering 😭

Joolsin · 12/06/2024 21:11

Old soldiers at memorial services. That's it, nothing else thaws my cold, black heart!

StripedPiggy · 12/06/2024 21:13

I’m as tough, hard & cynical as they come. I’ve never cried at a film & never will. I don’t cry. Except when my beloved England cricket team won the World Cup.

Waitingfordoggo · 12/06/2024 21:15

Nothing makes me cry except sad/poignant things involving dogs.

A few years ago there was a social media thing about a whippet or greyhound called Walnut who was going to be PTS as he was very old and had had enough of life. His owner put out a request for people to come and join in Walnut’s final beach walk. Hundreds of people turned up with their dogs. I’m tearing up now thinking about it 😂

aquietlifeplease · 12/06/2024 21:15

We rate dogs social media account inevitably makes me cry when they do the weekly good dogs! Sometimes it only takes the words the dogs were good again this week and off I go!

My cold heart is usually melted by a certain brand of achievement+struggle, usually sporting achievements but not all of them! You know when you are really rooting for someone and they are sooo happy they have won, or their parents are, or sometimes so broken to have lost? That often gets me.

A similar topic but different thing, but I remember watching that clip of the Brownlee brothers finishing a triathlon a few years ago. I of course knew of them, but don't follow the sport closely and just happened to put the TV on for the last few mins. When Jonny was leading but his legs turned to jelly and he was off his rocker with exhaustion in the home stretch, and Alistair caught up and practically dragged him across to the line, then the brotherly unceremonious shove across it... It ended me 😂

God I loved this thanks for reminding me!

if you haven’t seen it, Richard Whitehead coming from behind at the paralympics is a similar vibe that I watch on repeat!

OP I too have a heart of stone. Didn’t cry at the birth of my children or my wedding etc. but DIY SOS gets me good.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/06/2024 20:26

I can’t get through Allan Albergs book “kicking a ball” with ds without choking up.

Me too!!

Also the songs Puff the Magic Dragon and My Grandfather’s Clock. And the theme tune and opening bit to The Littlest Hobo.

Did you see the one about the dog who had a special step in their house and it was all faded and worn.

After the dog died they redecorated the stairs, but kept and put a frame on the old worn step and put a little plaque dedicated to their dog.

I was sobbing.

Bagpipes, especially a lone piper, and a full pipe band.

Yep I'm the same.

Littletinytarzanswingingfromanosehair · 12/06/2024 21:36

My daughter finished high school for good yesterday. I had a cry as it only seemed 5mins since she left primary and the kids sang "you've got a friend in me" in the school leavers play.

itsmylife7 · 12/06/2024 21:37

Bambi when you hear the shot and Bambi calls "mother " 😩

Also Dumbo when the mum is chained up and can only rock him with her trunk.😫

TheaBrandt · 12/06/2024 21:40

My I thought hard hearted teen is triggered by elderly people being lonely. She cant bear it we watched the Raymond Briggs cartoon about his parents getting old and dying and she was sobbing!

StoneTheCrone · 12/06/2024 21:40

First and second world war veterans.

Singleandproud · 12/06/2024 21:41

Song wise A Thousand Years mentioned by PP but also that sodding ABBA one Time Slipping through my fingers, that gets me everytime as I only have 1 DC and she's in her mid teens now and so many times are behind us and she's growing up so quickly. I'd love to go back in time and just carry her as she does that full body toddler flop where they rest their head on your shoulder and just melt.

TheaBrandt · 12/06/2024 21:45

Sobbed watching the D Day service last week. The elderly soldier recounted how as a 19 year old injured on D Day his mate insisted on driving him to the field hospital and leaving him there. He remembered how he admired him as he was older (26) and great fun. The next day the mate and the rest of the battalion were all killed. Everyone stood up and clapped. Youd need a heart of stone not to be moved by that.
