Anyone else loving the weather?

I'm so enjoying the cooler than normal weather. I can spend more time in the garden without getting hot and sweaty. Love sleeping in a cool bed. Can go for nice long walks. Less noise from neighbours. Win. Win.

No it's rubbish. We need some sun.

RaininSummer · 13/06/2024 21:36

It's awful. Depressed with SAD and my joints are hurting because of the cold and damp. Usually get a few months respite from this misery. Even the house is suffering because of the endless rain.

Disturbia81 · 13/06/2024 21:38

Had heating on everyday, fire on, oody, warming my bed up with hairdryer and big duvet still on. I do prefer it to being hot and uncomfortable, love autumn and winter but this is too much.. would love the middle ground. 21c-ish dry and blue skies

And the person who made the comment about blankets.. there's something psychological about getting wrapped up in one. The temperature under it only plays a part. I love covering myself up and feeling safe. Just makes me happy

MaryFuckingFerguson · 13/06/2024 21:41

I’m enjoying it and irritated by it in equal measure. I know we’ll get hot weather at some point. I need good weather in 3 weeks please as we’re having a do, hopefully in the garden.

Its a tad bleak that it’s almost the longest day and we’ve had barely a day of good weather.

I think this is why I love autumn and winter - there’s no expectation or disappointment.

Thank god for foreign holidays!

Yes, I prefer this weather to the heat -

I feel comfortable and not sweaty
I can sleep much better
I'm able to go out in my garden without the row of lawnmowers, screaming kids or barking dogs
It's nice to not have hay fever, Asthma or sunburn.
No flies, wasps or ants anywhere

Just endless, endless slugs.

Give me a wasp any day. At least they're useful.

MillenialAvocado · 13/06/2024 21:42

I wouldn't mind a bit of sun, but overall I'm loving it. I'm still traumatised by the 2022 heatwave and last summer was also far too hot in parts. I expect we'll have some kind of awful Indian Summer this year, so hopefully that will appease everyone.

You enjoy sitting in your garden wearing your coat?

MyQuaintDog · 13/06/2024 21:46

@Disturbia81 I associate sitting wrapped in blankets with poverty. When I have not been able to afford heating. It is the total opposite of comfort to me.

Longma · 13/06/2024 21:47

No, I'm really disliking the cold and constant dampness of the weather.

I don't mind being cosy with blankets in the winter but it's ridiculous that my heating wants to click on in the middle of June!

I'm cold all the time at the moment, even with layers - again, ridiculous for the middle of June - and my arthritis is really playing up as a result. The summer is supposed to be a time where I get some relief.

I don't even want it to be super hot but I don't think it's unreasonable for it to be low 20s at this time of year.

To make matters worst I can't even go away on a warm holiday until the end of the summer holidays at the very earliest (if at all this summer) as I'm due an operation in a few weeks,

SaltyGod · 13/06/2024 21:48

I take it you won’t be complaining when food prices go up again due to failed crops and harvest, or when you cannot buy the fruit and veg you want for the same reasons?

Likewise when roads and homes are flooded this winter due to the sodden ground? Or energy prices go up due to increased consumption?

Showing some broader understanding of the serious implications of this year’s unseasonable weather might be wise.

VintageBrass · 11/06/2024 20:54

I'm astonished people have their heating on. Where are you?

South Yorkshire.
It was 9c the other morning when I got in my car. It's currently 10c.
Tomorrow is going to reach a massive 14c complete with rain!

My hay fever is beyond shite AND the weather is fucking awful.

No win here on that one.

katebushh · 11/06/2024 20:57

Heating on!?? It's not that cold is it Confused

In the winter if is 10c outside I out the heating on.
It's currently 10c in June - why should I be cold just because the calendar says it's apparently summer?

virgocatlover · 13/06/2024 21:52

No I'm not. We have had this weather for over 8 months, bar a few nice days in May. It's just constant dullness, dreariness and rain.

I just want some sunshine and some consistent days above 20c. To be able to wear summer clothes for a couple of months. To take some nice walks in the evening when the sun is still shining. To go out without taking a Mac or jacket as it's always wet/cold. To actually feel we had some summer before the bloody winter starts again.

I understand! We're all different aren't we, a product of childhood and our nature etc.

ShiftySquirrel · 13/06/2024 22:08

I want clear skies whilst there are long light evenings. I only get out for walks then and it's so beautiful at this time of year - under blue skies with a glorious sun set.

Instead it's raining, grey, 11 degrees, there's masses of slugs, the outdoors jobs are stacking up, and I've hardly seen a butterfly this year.

We've lit the fire a few evenings and the damp patch above my bed is getting worse.

I get it. I'm personally massively affected by the bad weather and understand all too well the impact on many and various things. I'm simply saying I hate hot weather and enjoy cold/cool weather.

UtterlyOtterly · 13/06/2024 22:19

I love the cooler weather personally but am very concerned about the impact on bees and butterflies, and on crops.

MyQuaintDog · 13/06/2024 22:24

I do not know how anyone can like this weather. Its not cool sunny days, it is damp, wet, windy and cold days. Horrible.

RampantIvy · 13/06/2024 22:28

Erm, no it wasn't. We had a couple of weeks of temperatures in the 20s in June, the wettest July on record, a cool August, one warm week in September and a few warm days in October.

Waves to @Longma - it has been ridiculously cold and wet this month in South Yorkshire.

There are usually loads of outdoor fundraising events in summer and the charities are going to suffer this year because theses events keep being cancelled.

Well said. There are some miserable sods on this thread who have no thought for anyone but themselves. Never in real life have I met anyone who moans about a bit of warm weather like people do on MN. Unseasonable weather has consequences.

Disturbia81 · 14/06/2024 09:41

It's not mutually exclusive.. I'm enjoying the cooler weather and feel more comfortable on a personal level, but also appreciate this isn't good for the crops and nature etc. Of course warmer would be better if that's what the earth needs. It's more about just trying to find the positives in the current situation as we can't change the weather can we? So we're just appreciating it while it's here.

Yep pissing it down here again today and the forecast says it's going to be much the same tomorrow, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Apparently Wednesday is meant to be dry but I'll believe that when I see it...

I have the heating on again and the heated airer is plugged in because once again I can't use the line to dry.
