How many dwellings can you see from your home?

Just for casual interest. 'Dwellings' so we include flats and bungalows etc as well as houses.

From the back of my house - 21
From the front of my house - 44

I can probably see more when there are no leaves on the trees.

Plus I can see four tall tower blocks in the far distance so that's probably another 120 or so.

I'm mildly surprised. If you had asked me before I counted, I definitely wouldn't have said I can see 65. My estimate would have been much lower.

As in from the window, or standing outside?

From the window I can see 5 across the road. About 10 from back window as can see more through the gaps between houses

RainbowZebraWarrior · 11/06/2024 14:00

From the back: 8
From the front: 18

It's more than I thought, too. Some are only rooftops. Mind, I'm in a bungalow, so if I had an upstairs I might be able to see more, but not much. There's farmland to one side, but there is another street beyond mine.

Edited to add: that's from outside. From the window, I can only see 2 at the back and about 9 at the front.

ILikeALemonWedgeInMyGin · 11/06/2024 14:00

Odd interest but okay

For me it depends on which window I'm looking out of but for the purpose of this, master bedroom window I can see 36 at the back of the house.
DS bedroom at the front of the house, 13

Marlowandmerlot · 11/06/2024 14:04

From the back window on to the garden I can see three. From the front window I can see one.

Beezknees · 11/06/2024 14:05

I'm not counting, but I live in a third floor flat, so quite a lot!

Jackreacherstrousers · 11/06/2024 14:05

None. Bungalow/villa (I live abroad,) set in an acre of garden surrounded by hedges, trees and high walls. If we open the gates I can see fields and 2 houses in the distance and if I'm on my terrace I can just see next door villa through trees.

Ihateslugs · 11/06/2024 14:06

Three from the front and three from the back. There are lots of other houses (bungalows ) around but I cannot see them from my window. Obviously if I went outside and could look in different directions up and down the road I would see more.

BouleDeSuif · 11/06/2024 14:06

A lot. I'm in a block of council flats surrounded by maisonettes and semis, and through a break in those I can see about two miles of terrace, double row.

SomethingUniqueThisTime · 11/06/2024 14:07

1 from windows, 5 from the front & back garden all together. We live on the edge of a village.

I was standing inside at first floor windows when I counted.

Front, downstairs - 4
Front, upstairs - 7 or 8

Back - glimpses through the trees atm, there is a road across a field with a small development built off it. Can probably see 8 in the winter.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/06/2024 14:09

From the back I can see next door, next door but one on the other side and (just) the one behind

From the front 4.

It'd be a few more from upstairs

Singleandproud · 11/06/2024 14:09

Around 60 from my window mix of houses and cottage flats + a hospital and a shop. I live on a bend so can see most the houses on my side of the road + opposite + the junctions at either end

SummerBarbecues · 11/06/2024 14:10

A lot more than I think. 14 from the back and 15 from the front. I'm counting from upstairs. Less from downstairs.

Yes it's a bit odd! I felt the need to post an antidote to all the heavy 'meaning of life' threads I've been reading.

3 to the front, none to the back in summer, can see a couple in winter when the trees are bare

Nice! Sounds idyllic.

From my front doorstep, one. Back doorstep - none. Can see more from upstairs, maybe about 5 altogether.

somewhereovertherain · 11/06/2024 14:12

2 from the front - none from the back or side

RockAndRollerskate · 11/06/2024 14:12

Two out the front, one out the back.

2 from the back, 3 from the front

haddockfortea · 11/06/2024 14:17

Front - 5
Back - 6

Deathraystare · 11/06/2024 14:19

I live in a tower block so can see for miles. Loads of houses/flats/tower blocks but then I do live in London!
