How many dwellings can you see from your home?

Just for casual interest. 'Dwellings' so we include flats and bungalows etc as well as houses.

From the back of my house - 21
From the front of my house - 44

I can probably see more when there are no leaves on the trees.

Plus I can see four tall tower blocks in the far distance so that's probably another 120 or so.

Bungalow was chosen years ago because it had very few near neighbours so the kids could play in the garden without worrying about noise levels. I have neighbours each side, decent space between the actual properties, about 20 feet each side. Fields behind, in front on the other side of the road is trees and a field. The big house they belong to is further along the road.

Ginkypig · 11/06/2024 14:21

Back window none
at back door 2 few more in winter
standing at the front door 13 or 14 if you count the tiny corner of roof

Breathmiller · 11/06/2024 14:22

None from inside my house, I live on a farm in a row of the old farm worker's houses and only see hills and fields out the back and a woodland out the front.

But, if I stand in my front garden and faced my own house then I can see the other 4 terraced houses in my row. And from the back garden another little cottage set back a bit. So 5 from the gardens.

I do love the rural setting but also lucky to have great neighbours and don't feel too isolated.

I lived for many years in a flat in a city that looked along a fairly sized street to the front and over the rooftops behind so would have seen hundreds potentially.

2 from the back, but only really in winter because they are hidden by trees, 2 on the left and 1 on the right. In front no houses, but a factory across the road. I can see a couple more from the front bedroom window, but they are a fair distance away.

fridaynight1 · 11/06/2024 14:25

None. I don't live in the middle of knowhere but I do have a small garden with trees and shrubs. My next door neighbours would probably say they can see lots of houses.

I like my privacy - they like plastic grass and concrete. Their choice.

Insette · 11/06/2024 14:26

None. I can see one in winter when the trees are bare.

dontbelievewhatyousee · 11/06/2024 14:28

11

LauderSyme · 11/06/2024 14:29

@BurntBroccoli From wherever you like but yes I looked out of the first floor windows at the front and back.

None from the front and left side. One quite far away from the right/back view. I feel very lucky as I've always hoped for this!

TwistedSisters · 11/06/2024 14:33

Two from front , one from back.
Only really in winter though, once the trees are fully out they are hidden.

Spacie · 11/06/2024 14:33

From the kitchen window (which is at the front) - 13
From the living room at the back - 0
From upstairs at the front - about 20
From upstairs at the back - a nursing home not sure if this counts as a dwelling.

jiskoot · 11/06/2024 14:34

From the front none, from the back one, across a river and some fields, we're a bit rural 😁

HumanRightsAreHumanRights · 11/06/2024 14:36

None at the front and 1 at the back but I can see over it as it's further down the hill.

mitogoshi · 11/06/2024 14:36

From front, none in summer, tall leafy trees and river, then more trees before the next houses. From back a dozen or more plus yachts

mitogoshi · 11/06/2024 14:37

Should add my living space is upstairs so I can see far more, from kitchen I can see my garage and fences

MaryFuckingFerguson · 11/06/2024 14:37

From the back, two.

From the front, 4.

Ooh yachts. Do you live near a marina?

Front: none
back: none

one on each side. It’s blissful yet we are only half an hour from London.

YellowHairband · 11/06/2024 14:54

None from the back, 20 from the front.

TheSock · 11/06/2024 14:55

10 from the front
8 from the back

Singersong · 11/06/2024 14:56

From the front door - 0
From the back door- 0

If I walk out of the gates and look down the road -1

Twoshoesnewshoes · 11/06/2024 14:57

From the upstairs window- 1 farmhouse at the front just the roof above some woodland.
at the back- a bit of roof, and next doors garage.

BobbyBiscuits · 11/06/2024 14:59

Haha, I'm trying to count but it's really hard. From the back I can see 12 separate buildings closest to me (each with between one and 10 dwellings) then further ahead I see a massive 17 storey block which must have 1/200. Then the estate in between, I can see about about 20 to 30 flats there.
From the front I can see 12 buildings, some two dwellings, some 6. Then a pub and it's adjoining dwelling, then another 16 houses further down, most being 2 dwellings..gawd. and a big converted warehouse behind that with maybe 20?
Loads basically.

chubbybear1 · 11/06/2024 15:01

None. Nearest house is 1.5 miles away, isolated bliss!

SisterAgatha · 11/06/2024 15:02

Front - 8
Back - probably 12 and see the town in the distance

which makes no sense as I live 0.25 miles outside London, have a London overground station and from the station crossing can see the shard, so you’d expect more.

my little ones line in the school assembly on the fire of London is “houses were so close together you could touch the house opposite from your window” so things do improve sometimes 🤣
