Intimate photos on Mumsnet

Does anyone else find this concerning? My GP practise doesn't even allow genital pictures to be sent to them because of confidentiality and security.

I am also very concerned that there is a possibility of an alternative reasons these are being posted. Lots of posters have previously responded to these photos defending them by stating we should be allowed to ask women if we have problems that affect women. However as we are all well aware there are abusive men/women in the world. How do we know that the poster hasn't been forced to post these pictures or they have been posted without their consent? Without being too explicit there is also the concern of how old the actual person in the photo is.

Does anyone else think this or do you think posting intimate photos on a predominately woman's site justified?

Remember embarrassing bodies tv show? saw a lot of intimate body parts being flashed about - before & after. Arseholes were covered I think at one point as well.

Am I the only one that doesn't know which thread but weirdly wants a link? 🤣 i do think it's a bit odd. If it were me I would definitely opt for describing the symptoms!

I never ever open those photos. I’ve no desire to see people’s arses or any other bits. They’re obviously not shy so just go to the doctors and show them, not us.

At least the arsehole pic had a warning. There was a fanny one a couple of months ago that didn't. That was removed thankfully!

I wouldn’t do it but all arseholes/fannies/nipples look pretty much the same when they aren’t attached to a face and we’ve all seen them before So I don’t really have an issue with other people doing it.

It’s not something I would ever do. But… I have a husband who I could ask for help/an opinion on such intimate matters. What if the poster of the bumhole pics has no one they can ask? What else are they supposed to do? Rock up at Boots, drop their pants in front of the pharmacist, bend over with spread cheeks and say “are these haemorrhoids??”

See a doctor like everyone else?

Why wait 3-4 weeks for a non emergency doctors appointment when you can ask the internet immediately?

Maybe the person was worried and didn’t want to wait?

It is true that the majority of posters on MN are not medics, but there may be some with a medical knowledge.

We have to accept that some people are reluctant to see a doctor about certain conditions, due to embarrassment. I am not one of those people, but we are not all the same. Posting on line may be their only alternative route. They are only comfortable in an anonymous setting.

In addition, the fact that it is so difficult to actually see a doctor is one of the key reasons we are likely to have a change of government in a few weeks time.

they can describe the issue, explain it to 111, no one needs to post an explicit photo of their arse hole or genitals, and trying to justify it is just as weird.

I still think people are not considering that these photos maybe posted without consent. A while ago a poster used to post unflattering pictures of his ex girlfriend (admittedly not naked) to try and encourage others to say how awful she looked. They do exist.

Another poster asked what happens if Mumsnet is hacked? Good question. Are people fully aware they can be linked to username if something does go wrong?

I mean yes the hacking issue is a thing but I’d be far more concerned that a whole thread about a personal relationship issue could be plastered all over the Daily Fail (which is why I never post anything too identifying!) and that does frequently happen, rather than a random close up of my (hypothetical) anus which you could just dismiss as anyone’s surely?!
