I only just found out about Golden Kiwis, they are gorgeous.
I can’t stop eating them.

My mother told me about them, I had never even heard of them, I’m at the supermarket now and wondering what else am I missing out on??😁

@LuluBlakey1 Ive bought them in Sainsburys. Currently on offer for a pack of four for £2. They are so much nicer than green kiwi. Less sharp and much softer.

Not really a discovery, but up until recently I wasn't keen on fresh basil and now I can't get enough! My go to lunch has been a ham, tomato and a strong cheddar cheese sandwich with some basil leaves on the tomato. Delicious!

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 09/06/2024 16:50

Feta cheese cooked. I didn't know it was possible to put it on chicken and veg, then roast. It's yum. As is Longley farm cottage cheese!

CultOfTheAirFryer · 09/06/2024 16:52

Also came here to mention crispy chilli oil.

I am trying to improve my gut microbiome and have come across Tempeh..... has anyone got a good tried and tested recipes? I have no idea what to do with it.

I love tempeh. First tasted it in Bali over 30 years ago - it's part of their everyday diet there. I like this recipe https://www.theguardian.com/food/2024/feb/17/vegan-spicy-tempeh-spaghetti-recipe-meera-sodha

A bolognese-style spaghetti dish that tingles with south-east Asian flavours

Good cottage cheese - Longley Farm brand. Hadn't eaten it in years because of the horrible watery stuff from supermarkets. Tried some of the full fat Longley Farm on a cracker at a food fayre and it is delicious! I used it to make salad dressings, in sandwiches and on toast with hot honey. Delicious

Edited

I haven't eaten cottage cheese in years but you've got me interested. I see they sell it in Tesco. Will give it a go, thanks.

Bio oranges freshly juiced at home. Forget how nice good orange juice can be. I check for seeds and throw the whole thing in a powerful blender.

That looks interesting, thanks

One’s green and the other’s gold?

After tasting the gold ones I don't think you'd go back to green ( I can't)

Jemimapuddleduk · 09/06/2024 17:07

Salted unpasteurised butter by the block, so much better than lurpack spreadable. Homemade bread. Also Mr Vicki’s range of spicy chutneys etc.
i am also enjoying curried scrambled eggs- I add curry powder, fengueek powder, and nigella seeds!

Phantasmagorically · 09/06/2024 17:09

Everything But The Bagel seasoning. I'm sprinkling it on everything.

Oysters. A neighbour plied me with champagne first so I plucked up courage. It only took 60 years but it was worth the wait.

Really? I've never heard anyone say that. What do they taste of? I just couldn't.

Also absolutely love the Longley Farm cottage cheese. No other brands compare, I wish it was easier to find (in London).

I've recently been making Fattoush dressing for salads with pomegranate molasses, lemon juice and sumac. Delicious, particularly with a salad of leaves, herbs, cucumber, pepper, feta, fried pitta and chicken. Lebanese recipe.

I'm not in London but in my city I find it it Poundland or in Iceland.

loveulotslikejellytots · 09/06/2024 16:29

I had whipped feta out at a restaurant a while ago. It has chopped basil and pomegranate seeds on top. It was amazing, I need to find out how to make it. It was served with warm pitta, I could have eaten bowls of it.

You can do it with cottage cheese too if you don't like the texture
The whipped feta is usually feta, bit of green yoghurt, olive oil, lemon zest, whatever seasonings you want

OnlyFrench · 09/06/2024 17:17

@marciaa it’s really hard to explain….like taking a big gulp of the seaside, fresh…. The champagne was good too 😁

FairIsleCromartyForties · 09/06/2024 16:32

Have you tried Longley Farm cottage cheese on toast with chopped strawberries? Divine.

No but I will.now! It's great as a savoury or sweet base. I also like it straight up with some chopped walnuts. I sometimes see it in Iceland so worth a look there if anyone is hunting for it

NoddyTheNodule · 09/06/2024 17:28

It's very hard to find, but Longley Farm lovers need to try their cream cheese. There's nothing like it, and basque cheesecake made with it is just out of this world.

My favourite way to eat LF cottage cheese is either on crackerbreads or toasted sourdough, sprinkled liberally with hot sauce or chilli onion crunch.

The food I've only just recently tried is gochujang, and now everything is liberally smeared or marinaded in it!

therealmccoy1234 · 09/06/2024 17:32

Oh yes gochujang and also ketjap manis. Had a couple of hello fresh meals with those and added them straight to my shopping list. They really perk up a stir fry or bit of boring salmon

Scribl · 09/06/2024 17:40

@NoddyTheNodule I came to say the same about gochujang. It makes everything delicious!

Ketcap manis is now my secret ingredient in bolognese

Edamame (soybeans that are picked while green and unripe and then steamed, boiled, or roasted in their pods.)

Very good for your cholesterol, too.

This is going to sound really daft and unsophisticated, but cabbage and greens. I eat a decent range of veg but I started looking at the Michael Mosley books during lockdown, (because I had more time to cook and wanted to shed a bit of weight), and they suggest spring greens and cabbage as good vegetables to have regularly. I have never liked cabbage type veg since school dinners, but thought I'd try microwaving them with a splash of olive oil and a sprinking of water and OMG what a revelation. Lovely and crisp and unsoggy. Have cabbage, spring greens and spinach regularly now.

Still haven't quite managed kale....

sprigatito · 09/06/2024 17:57

Sumac. I'd never used it before and it's beautiful in homemade lamb seekh kebabs.
Fresh turmeric root. I think I may actually be addicted to it. I'll never buy the powdered stuff again.

sprigatito · 09/06/2024 17:58

Oh, and gochujang paste! Man that stuff is delicious.

GingerPirate · 09/06/2024 18:00

Pineapple.
Couldn't stand it when younger.

Sainsbury's and Morrison's and the Co-op sell it up here in the north-east.

LuluBlakey1 · 09/06/2024 15:47

Where do you get them? I have been looking for them.

Most supermarkets sell them, l’ve been buying them from Sainsbury’s.
