Imagine being on a beach on holiday, not knowing you have just a few hours left to live.

Ooof. Yes, the way you’ve described it is spot-on, and unnerving. Any of us could be hours or even minutes from death at any moment, and there is so much luck involved (or lack thereof). Reading your post made me want to ‘live in the moment’ and count my blessings, and tell my family how much I love them. But then I know I’ll forget, and fall back into the daily grind and take people
for granted again. Until the next time I read about a tragic and untimely death! How does one really ‘live in the moment’ all the time?

I have never read or listened to Dr Moseley’s work but I’m very aware of what a huge impact he has had on so many people. What a great man, and a life well-lived. I hope he enjoyed every moment of his productive time here and I hope he had some idea of the positive change he inspired in so many.

And I hope that right up to the very last moment, he still had some hope that someone would spot him there on the hillside and come to his aid. He seems to have been a very positive man, so I hope that’s the way it was.

It wasn’t the mayor!

He was on the boat with the other guys and BBC reports that it was the mayor that "saw something" and lead to the cameraman taking some snaps.

Disturbia81 · 10/06/2024 17:45

@Jaichangecentfoisdenom Exactly, I lived there too and sporty things were done in every season apart from summer. The foreigners mostly started out being out in the sun all day including me, I used to feel sick with it until I learnt! Think we're just so starved of heat in the UK. The arabic people had the skin to deal with the sun more but they were wise and stayed out of it as much as possible in the early afternoon.

Zonder · 10/06/2024 17:46

Radio 4 just said he died of natural causes.

alwaysonadiet1 · 10/06/2024 17:48

@passiflora2 it was in an online subscription, Telegraph or Times, not sure which now.

The cameraman, who was interviewed pretty promptly, said he was the one who saw something and he told the mayor (beside him) and took photos so they could zoom in, and the mayor called the restaurant to check.

I believe the cameraman over the mayor on this.

It's an odd thing to say imo. You don't die naturally at 67. So he either had a stroke, heart attack or another type of clot or bleed. Whilst deemed 'natural' as opposed to a criminal act for example, it still isn't an actual cause.
I understand due to length of time he was there a pm would be challenging but even so. It was 4 days not 4 months.

The heat has a massive effect why culturally those from hot countries bury within 24 hours or less. Sorry if this is too gruesome.

Longma · 10/06/2024 18:10

It simply means there was no foul play, etc.
The actual cause of death may be found after further testing, and may or may not be released to the media.
Something like a heart attack, etc would - I assume - come under 'natural death' as it comes from within the body itself.

It’s the preliminary PM finding - ie no foul play. The coroner said that although it had only been 4 days, it appeared as more than 20 days and thus determining a precise cause of death was difficult.

It's an entirely normal expression used by a coroner - it's not a specific cause of death but a category of causes

And therefore excludes other categories such as criminal/accidental/neglect etc

Blood and tissue samples have been sent for further analysis - results of which not expected for some weeks to try to clarify a specific cause within the category of natural causes

CremeFresh · 10/06/2024 18:12

@Janiie a body left in the hot sun will deteriorate extremely quickly, it can take less than 10 days for only bones to be left.

Crummles · 10/06/2024 18:14

@Chenecinquantecinq absolutely

According to The Times, it was a bar manager, Ilias Tsavaris, and a few journalists who went closer and unofficially identified MM. By the way, he’s on record as questioning why MM wasn’t found before by the search teams.

Do you struggle to understand the meaning of natural?

EdithWeston · 10/06/2024 18:23

I think that they just mean that he did not die of injury. There are still further tests to be run that might lead to a more precise cause being established.

I think it is likely that he was aiming to get to the Marina, and then pause and refresh, and then decide whether to continue, get a water taxi or return the way he came and get a bus.

I think it's very likely that he missed the turn to the lower col route that is the shortest and less risky path that would take him to the south entrance. Given the last sighting of him on the marina's CCTV and the length of time he was walking on harder trail, he may well have have been able to completed the lower route.

But a blogger who was linked to an earlier thread, and who was attempting the same walk, took a wrong turn, found himself on the higher col (which set his spidey senses tingling because no footprints - people really don't go that way). It sounds like it's an easy mistake to make.

So perhaps he only realised higher up that the marina was nor where he expected it to be. It looks much steeper (and there is no path) to turn hard right to the southern entrance. So carrying on a bit then dropping down to the north entrance would have seemed the more sensible choice - by that point, and exhausted, it probably was. And he nearly made it.

RIP

BirthdayRainbow · 10/06/2024 18:23

A relative fell and then after getting up walked further then fell again and soon after, died. We thought they had died due to the bang to the head but the post mortem showed there had been a cardiac event. Complete shock as we'd have said they were fit, slim, walking a lot every day. Just gone.

Condolences to the family snd friends 💐

ducktapez · 10/06/2024 18:44

@EdithWeston Yours is as good a theory as anything else I've read.

Yes the bar manager went to check after being called by the mayor after the cameraman spotted something on the rocks.

It's very scary that he could have died so quickly. On the same day. Is that possible?
I thought the body could survive for 2 days without water?
I know it was very hot but I assumed he would have died the next day or the day after.

I think that as well as saying "very sad, Rest in peace" and condolences to his family and friends, we can all learn from this.

I think it's true that you can survive for quite a while with no food or water, and this makes me wonder if he suffered a stroke or a heart attack, perhaps partly as a result of the heat.
I feel so sorry for his poor family. He went too soon.

DramaLlamaBangBang · 10/06/2024 19:06

In the Times article, it said that he was found lying on a rock eith his knees up, indicating he was trying to follow NHS advice to lie down and elevate your legs if you feel faint or unwell, so sadly it looks like he's felt unwell, tried to sit down and try and do something to recover and just died. Maybe it was something as sudden as a stroke or heart attack.

I find it hard to understand why people have seen the CCTV footage of this poor guy taking his last steps and seeing pictures of his body. I certainly haven't, because I haven’t been looking. Just don’t understand why anyone would want to view something so disturbing and tragic .

I saw it on twitter. Didn't look for it. Wasn't searching for Michael Mosley. It was just there in my suggested posts. God knows why. Zoomed out but graphic photo.

loveyouradvice · 10/06/2024 19:07

how can they know he died at 4pm so precisely?
