McDonald's no onions on top of burgers

purpleme12 · 08/06/2024 13:56

I got cheeseburgers recently
And quarter pounder with cheese

Only to find no onions on top anymore!
Apparently this is because they cook the onions IN the burger now so you might not see them on top!

But it made it taste completely different and really dulled the nice taste for me and has completely ruined it

Does anyone actually prefer it this way?!

@MrsSkylerWhite they do have (had) onions.
Quarter pounders have big chunky ones.
Hamburgers/Cheeseburgers have those teeny tiny diced ones.

Exactly thank you

In which case I’m going to drive through tomorrow and demand my 45 years of onions!

Are you saying the one you go to has never given you onions on top in all the years?
And you've only ever used that branch of McDonald's?

I've always been given onions on top in every branch of McDonald's until this winter

Yes 😱🤣

annabofana · 09/06/2024 23:16

I had a burger many years ago from a local cafe.

I asked for onions. The guy proudly told me no, as they didn't have any onions. He said the onion was now diced up small and cooked in the burger.

He seemed so proud of himself whereas I was just a bit annoyed as I just wanted a bit of onion garnish on my burger.

For what's it worth, the burger was crap and you could not taste the onion in the burger.

So I'm disappointed to hear McDs are now doing this.

jennifersa · 09/06/2024 23:25

The cheese burger o ions are different to the quarter pounder onions. The reason you might not see them is because they will be covered by the cheese and sauce as they are now added at the cooking stage, not after where they did always get placed on top of the cheese/sayce/mustard

jennifersa · 09/06/2024 23:25

This is incorrect OP. The onions are not in the patty

RhubarbAndFlustered · 09/06/2024 23:28

Omg I knew there was something wrong the other day with my cheeseburger. It didn't taste right at all. There were some bits of onion floating loose around the packet itself in the paper but I hadn't realised that there weren't any on the burger itself amongst the mustard and ketchup.

liveforsummer · 09/06/2024 23:31

Got a cheeseburger last night and can confirm that, for the first time ever, there was no detectable onions. It was rubbish! Those who say they have never been there must have been ordering and specifying without!

Bringonthesunforthewashing · 09/06/2024 23:36

But it literally says on the app, 100% beef mince, nothing added but salt and pepper..

Hat trick is a triple burger (ie x3). Think it’s a reference to a football thing.

Honestly, burgers and cheeseburgers have never had onions added. Just pickles and sauce.

Wrong - I worked there for many years and they definitely had onions added.

That's true, OP is mistaken. The onions are not in the burger, they are just added at an earlier stage of the 'building' process which means they are under other ingredients, hence the 'not always able to see' thing

purpleme12 · 10/06/2024 00:03

There was definitely no onions there

This is what they said to me

Thank you for contacting McDonald’s Customer Services.

Onion is now added to our beef burgers during cooking so what you have described might be because the onions are only used in the cooking process and therefore you may not be able to see them.

It has happened a few times
And not in just one McDonald's either.

But it's odd that other people here have said that their burgers still have onions on top

I keep reading this and can't understand where you are coming from. It reads to me that they are added during cooking so on top rather than inside the patty

JulianFawcettMP · 10/06/2024 00:33

Also surely allergies would prevent the them keeping such a change quiet

But they're not on top

I think I'll just take a photo next time. Maybe that will be clearer
I just know that they're not like they were . Don't have the onions on top

OP posts:
jennifersa · 10/06/2024 07:16

@purpleme12

You are right, they are not 'on top' becsue the sauce and cheese covers the onions. The onions are not in the burger, they are directly on top of it then the other ingredients are added.

purpleme12 · 10/06/2024 07:54

So you're saying the onions are on top of the burger then aren't you?
But they're not

Either way it tastes completely different and I can't taste any onions

OP posts:
Negangirlxx · 10/06/2024 08:11

I don’t like the way they cook them now. I used to love the crunchy little onions on the Cheeseburgers, but now you don’t get that delightful crunch.

They also don’t taste as good in general.

jennifersa · 10/06/2024 08:18

@purpleme12

So you're saying the onions are on top of the burger then aren't you?

Yes they are directly on top of the burger. They are not in the burger which is what you said. They are not 'on top' when you lift the bun because they are placed in a different order when assembled now, that's all.

purpleme12 · 10/06/2024 08:24

However they're done they're very different because I can really taste the difference and I can't taste the onions at all and it completely changes it

Our youngest works there now. They don’t have onions 🤷‍♀️

The vegan mcplant has a shit load of onions and I love them
