McDonald's no onions on top of burgers

purpleme12 · 08/06/2024 13:56

I got cheeseburgers recently
And quarter pounder with cheese

Only to find no onions on top anymore!
Apparently this is because they cook the onions IN the burger now so you might not see them on top!

But it made it taste completely different and really dulled the nice taste for me and has completely ruined it

Does anyone actually prefer it this way?!

Oh that’s really annoying - my dogs love a cheeseburger and we would get it without onions on top. I don’t dare tell them they can’t have them anymore

Badassnameforadojo · 08/06/2024 13:58

So they’ve changed the recipe of the beef patty then? Haven’t seen any wee signs about that. You’d expect them to make that obvious for allergies etc, because they’re such a huge chain.

purpleme12 · 08/06/2024 14:09

I messaged them about it and they said onion is now added to the beef burger during cooking and only used in the cooking process so you may not be able to see them.

That is a cost-cutting exercise if ever I saw one.

Not only do they not have to send bags of sliced onions to their restaurants and pay a staff member to put it in the burger (thus saving both on transport costs and wages), they can also save money on beef mince. The burgers will be the same weight, but contain less of the expensive ingredient and more of the cheap one.

Cheeky buggers.

nobeans · 08/06/2024 14:20

Thats awful

purpleme12 · 08/06/2024 14:20

Oh I see
I guess that makes sense now you've said it

I really hate that they've done it though 🙁

I don't think it's worth buying anymore the burgers

I cannot eat onions😓

I cannot eat onions😓

So surely it would have been better to leave it as it was for people who can't have onions as well

This was done a while ago. There was a lot of hoo ha at the time. My DS doesn't like their burgers anymore. Which I suppose is no great loss, but was an easy go-to for something he'd eat when out and about.

I did notice it winter just gone but when I first messaged they didn't actually tell me anything about the new process

It's only when I messaged recently that they said about this.

I must have missed it when it happened then I wish I had heard about it so I knew!

I guess I'll just have to stick with chicken sandwich meals!

Their webpage makes it still look like they are separate (and raw?)

https://www.mcdonalds.com/gb/en-gb/product/quarter-pounder-with-cheese.html

It does doesn't it

I also mentioned this in my message to them

It makes it look like it's exactly how it used to be! (And should be!)

OP posts:
freakyoldhermit · 08/06/2024 14:36

there is small print about the onions

purpleme12 · 08/06/2024 14:46

I wonder how many people actually like it like this

OP posts:
Hotnamehere · 08/06/2024 14:54

I think it means they add the onions on top of the burger while it's on the grill.

NotSoFunThis · 08/06/2024 14:54

I literally just had a quarter pounder and there were onions on top as usual.

purpleme12 · 08/06/2024 14:55

Oh now I'm sad that there aren't on mine 🙁

But it's not just once that's the thing

lovepotionnumbernine · 09/06/2024 14:29

I had one the other day and noticed it. They are now completely dreadful.

TheChosenTwo · 09/06/2024 14:31

Ds had one this week and the onions were separate and on top - I wasn’t having one (because I was going out for dinner, I bloody
love a cheese quarter pounder!) and the only reason I know they were separate was because he always picks them out and donates them to me 😂

I thought onions kill dogs?!

Needmorelego · 09/06/2024 14:36

I wonder if there's the option on the machine where you can add/remove things that has "add onion" so you will get some?
I'm sure all my quarter pounders recently have had onion though.
I had a cheeseburger recently that did but another time when I had one as part of a Happy meal it didn't.

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 09/06/2024 14:40

Quarter pounders and cheeseburgers are completely different burgers. There are raw onions on the quarter pounders. Sounds like it's the cheeseburger recipe that's changed.

Singleandproud · 09/06/2024 14:44

I always just ask for extra onion and extra gherkins. Seems to solve the probable BUT changing the recipe is a bit naughty for those with allergies and intolerances that have eaten them Gor years and probably don't check the ingredients as they've never had an issue.
