McDonald's no onions on top of burgers

purpleme12 · 08/06/2024 13:56

I got cheeseburgers recently
And quarter pounder with cheese

Only to find no onions on top anymore!
Apparently this is because they cook the onions IN the burger now so you might not see them on top!

But it made it taste completely different and really dulled the nice taste for me and has completely ruined it

Does anyone actually prefer it this way?!

Quarter pounders and cheeseburgers are completely different burgers. There are raw onions on the quarter pounders. Sounds like it's the cheeseburger recipe that's changed.

No, as mentioned in my post, it happened to both cheeseburger and quarter pounder with cheese.

I like extra onions on my chicken burger or fish, last time I noticed it wasn't an option under customise, but assumed they'd run out. I don't believe they are adding onions to the fish and chicken. 😡

It's not right is it 😞

This is the only article I can find on it, but it definitely says that the onions will be cooked on top of the burgers on the grill so it doesn't say that they are included in the burger.

If they are being cooked on top, they should still be an item that you can remove when ordering?

McDonald's makes major change to burgers for the first time in 50 years

McDonald's fans who love Big Mac burgers, Quarter Pounders, and classic cheeseburgers can now expect significant taste changes from this month - and a brand new bun style

@purpleme12 actually thinking about it.....
I had a quarter pounder in one branch where I ticked ",no gherkins" on the screen and got no gherkins AND no onions.
Another branch which is still old style and you order at the till and I couldn't be bothered to say "no gherkins" so I got both gherkins and onions.
🤷

purpleme12 · 09/06/2024 15:09

This is what they said to me

Thank you for contacting McDonald’s Customer Services.

Onion is now added to our beef burgers during cooking so what you have described might be because the onions are only used in the cooking process and therefore you may not be able to see them.

It has happened a few times
And not in just one McDonald's either.

But it's odd that other people here have said that their burgers still have onions on top

OP posts:
Needmorelego · 09/06/2024 15:19

@purpleme12 I suppose it could be different in the different branches because McDonald's are franchises - but I would assume the food all comes from the same supplier so who knows 😂
This is definitely one for a campaign -
#bringbackonions !

Favouritefruits · 09/06/2024 16:02

The add the burger onions at the cooking stage do you can still have no onions on your burger.

FieldsOfFlours
Oh that’s really annoying - my dogs love a cheeseburger and we would get it without onions on top. I don’t dare tell them they can’t have them anymore
I thought onions kill dogs?!

Yes, that's why they order without onions.

But now can't

EatCrow · 09/06/2024 16:16

No onions! That was the only genuine thing about them.

chichiwaaa · 09/06/2024 16:38

I've had cheeseburgers and a quarter from McDonalds recently and they had onions on top. First I've heard of this!

purpleme12 · 09/06/2024 17:02

I'm going to message back now so many people have said they've still got onions!

FuckTheClubUp · 09/06/2024 17:06

Omg yes, someone else who’s noticed this!

I only ever get a double cheeseburger and the last two times I’ve ordered them, they’ve tasted really bad. You can actually tell the difference. Went online to see what the fuck is going on and yep, they’ve changed the ways they cook the meat AND what they do with the burger.

It’s probably for the best as I’m overweight and should stop my weekly mcds! So annoyed though

CoastalCalm · 09/06/2024 17:09

It would take a huge amount of onion or garlic to kill a dog , our terrier has some most weeks in leftovers etc - now mushrooms are a different matter he flicks those out

HunterHearstHelmsley · 09/06/2024 17:09

Double quarter pounder is my burger of choice but I always get the onions removed. Still an option on Uber Eats and says the burger includes them. Curious.

McDonald's no onions on top of burgers
HunterHearstHelmsley · 09/06/2024 17:13

I took this

New processes are also being implemented to the grilled onions. White onions will now be added to the grill on top of the patties as they cook, for added colour and a better charred flavour.

to mean that you'd get the onion cooked with the burger, not that they're cooked into the burger

APurpleSquirrel · 09/06/2024 17:15

We went to our local McDonald's on Thursday & I have a quarter pounder (no cheese, no mustard, no pickle) & it still had raw white onions on the top of the beef pattie. I always check - they get it wrong quite often.

purpleme12 · 09/06/2024 19:39

This is so weird how some have them and some don't

Definitely going to query all of this now!

OP posts:
MrsSkylerWhite · 09/06/2024 19:43

Can’t recall them ever having onions?

I briefly worked in Maccies in 1982. our youngest works there part-time now and I’m paid in burgers for lifts😁

The current .”hat trick” has onions.

purpleme12 · 09/06/2024 19:45

They've definitely always had onions

What do you mean by hat trick?

OP posts:
buttnut · 09/06/2024 19:48

They cook them on top of the burgers so you can still choose to have them removed

purpleme12 · 09/06/2024 19:56

Well that's not what they've told me

OP posts:
MrsSkylerWhite · 09/06/2024 20:05

Hat trick is a triple burger (ie x3). Think it’s a reference to a football thing.

Honestly, burgers and cheeseburgers have never had onions added. Just pickles and sauce.

purpleme12 · 09/06/2024 20:12

Ok

I know I'm not making it up but ok
