Following on from thread 1, linked below.

Let's hope the CCTV / sighting in town gives a glimmer of home that he made the walk from the beach to town ok.

I’ve told my DH if I ever go missing please don’t stop looking for me at 8pm.

But that’s just stupid. The experts know what is safe to do so you expect your husband to put his own life at risk going out in difficult terrain in the dark on his own to find you?

Cadela · 08/06/2024 11:18

CCTV now showing he walked towards the rocky hills instead of going through the town.

why it’s only coming out now I’ll never know. There would have been a possibility of finding him if they’d checked all this the day he went missing.

I fear it can only be bad news now

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cxrrg9qxgd0o

It could still be good news.

If he fell and can't move,

he would still be alive now today without water On the third day.

But they really need to find him today.

Prayers for him . I really hope they get him today.

It's not coming from a stupid place. It's coming from worry and love.

If my partner was missing, I would be tempted to go out in a dangerous rocky area at night to look for them. Even though I know it would be dangerous. Someone would have to hold me back

Swollenandgrouchy · 08/06/2024 11:23

I really really hope they find him today. His poor wife and children.

there doesn’t appear to be many trees on the arid barren hilltops where he appears to have gone…. Is it possible there are crevices or mine shafts ? Or perhaps trapped under rocks ?

DwarfBeans · 08/06/2024 11:24

@Calliopespa because she started going on again about her comment not being so bad. And I'm sick of the criticism of the family and friends. All that shit should have been left on thread one.

MM did not want to wait 3 hours on a hot beach for the next boat. Instead he decided to take a short 15 minute walk and a bus ride which, had it gone to plan, would be absolutely nothing for his GP wife to worry about and imo was a better option than staying on the hot beach.

I don't see any issue with posters discussing possible routes etc but please stop taking cheap shots at family, friends, the local authorities and rescuers.

OvaHere · 08/06/2024 11:25

This Times articles quotes the Mayor saying they don't believe he had any water with him. I don't think there's going to be a good outcome here, he's been missing too long in the heat with no supplies. It's very sad, I really feel for his family who must be hoping against all odds.

If you’re walking a miles a litre bottle is quite heavy. Two litres even heavier.

This is how ridiculous these threads get, water, mobile, Apple watch - next thing someone's going to say is that he should have taken a field kitchen hot and cold running water, a fan a flatscreen TV etc etc.

These situations defy logic, they are 100% unplanned, spontaneous and unpredictable.

It shows how much privilege we all have, that these consumer trappings of our lives spring to mind so readily.

Carly944 · 08/06/2024 11:26

I think today is very crucial.

Because he's been missing for three days now, and we can only survive for three days without water.

As they know where the correct area to look for him is now, it seems likely that there will be a breakthrough today.

If my husband said he felt unwell and was going back to the holiday home (some distance away and involving long walk or the need for transport), there’s NO way on earth I would have let him go alone. What were his family and so-called friends thinking to let him feel poorly without taking care of him. They should be ashamed.
I sincerely hope this lovely man will be found safe, and can get the medical help he clearly needs.

Edited

There's a massive range between what 'not feeling well' means though and how some people use the phrase.

Could be I'm feeling a bit off after eating that lunch, I'll go for a walk back to get the bloating down. See you later' to 'I've got a headache, maybe a slow walk into town will help' right up to being seriously ill.

And people can be very determined when they want to be. If someone says they have a bit of a headache and want a short quiet walk in their own to ease it, not all will be happy to have a family member force you to let them come with you,

DatingDinosaur · 08/06/2024 11:28

Did he actually have his backpack with him?

I know there's the picture of him rummaging through it on the beach but it's not clear from the pic of him with the umbrella whether he's wearing it.

3 days maximum and not in temps like those. There is pretty much no chance there will be a good outcome.

I feel so much for his wife and family. They must be beside themselves.

Carly944 · 08/06/2024 11:30

I was just looking at the latest CCTV image.

At least he brought the sun umbrella with him, that was very sensible. So he was shaded from the intense heat.

I was in Spain last week, it was ridiculously hot and I saw too many men with bravado not even putting sun screen on, and getting severely burnt

Chaosx3x · 08/06/2024 11:02

As I pointed out upthread. It’s all possible that he asked for directions and he was given poor or incorrect advice about which path to take. Even just an offhand comment like “oh it’s that way, unless you fancy a bit of an adventure and some nice views? Oh if you like a nice walk then take the other path, you can see the whole island from up there” etc. Everyone is assuming he’s lost or failed to ask for directions but maybe he was actually told this was a good/nice way to walk. Or maybe he misinterpreted directions.

It's possible too that the friends they were staying with (with whom they were at the beach), gave him directions before he left and he thought he was following those and on the right path.

You can see the straps on his shoulders in the cctv stills so yes. Hopefully he had water in his bag or maybe got some from Pedi.

I’m out and about in a hot country (Spain, Greece, etc.) I always have a big 2l bottle in my rucksack, as a little one is gone in no time. That’s if I’m just walking in a town. If I’m walking out in the sun there’s no way I’d be without a good sized bottle. Surely not just me?

You also need salt you can get dehydrated from drinking too much water. MM will know all this it is his area of expertise.

Thinking of his family now and praying for his safe return.

Carly944 · 08/06/2024 11:35

It's interesting to learn about CCtv too.

So if someone goes missing, do the police go into all the restaurants and ask them to go back and look at the day he went missing.

Then the restaurant would presumably have to look through hours of footage as, they had a rough time frame of when he was walking past

So it would take about a day to see him on cctv

Aquarius1234 · 08/06/2024 11:35

He looks like a fast walker in the video

I was in Spain last week and I didn't carry water at all.

Because there were shops every five minutes so I knew I could pop in to get one.

Water is heavy to carry.

Struggling to think of a positive reason why anyone would take themselves off up a rocky mountain in 36 degree heat when nobody knows they are, they have no way to contact anyone, no water, no picnic, no camera - just an empty bag and an umbrella!

Hoping for the best but fear the worst.

And they also have to track down the owners as many restaurants don’t open daily,

Looked very deserted and grey in the cctv

But he presumably didn't realise the road was so treacherous before he started it.

Paths can often start looking simple and easy, next thing you take one wrong turn, and you have to climb down massive rocks

Aquarius1234 · 08/06/2024 11:39

I would get lost in the town never mind the cross country mountains.

I used to work in a shop and you could just fast forward through.

The footage that has been found (that we know of) has all been within 90 minutes of him leaving the beach. So shouldn’t have taken too long to get to, once you’d started looking. But depends I guess as well how busy it was an how many people on the footage to scrutinise for a positive ID.
