Just that really. Will he be found?

Browsing MN isn't obligatory, just in case you're not aware - you are free to bugger off 🙂

😂

plimbow · 06/06/2024 23:34

An interesting, rather quirky man. Not sure about the tapeworm though.

Fingers crossed there's better news tomorrow.

Just so much exaggerated investment in a stranger to us.
I do hope he is ok, because he is a human being, brought to my attention. His books, beliefs and whatnot are irrelevant.

MN is a hive of overstatement, faux compassion, actual bolleaux tbh.

It’s alright to admit that you’re just not an empathetic person. That doesn’t mean that you can lump the rest of the world in with your own beliefs.

It's just really odd that he hasn't been found. On Google maps the path looks like there is only one track you can take can go so I don't see how he could take a wrong turn. And even if he did he can't have gotten far. The search area is pretty small by missing person standards. Have the search and rescue dogs just missed him somehow.

This is starting to feel like Nicola Bulley all over again. Why on earth are you looking at Google maps?

Copperoliverbear · 06/06/2024 23:43

I've just looked for an update, still nothing yet, I really hope they find him soon, he is such a lovely man.

MidnightMeltdown · 07/06/2024 00:16

Well if he's found alive he'll certainly have a story to tell us.

loveyouradvice · 07/06/2024 00:18

what puzzles me is why there are so few people looking for him - just 7 volunteers and one dog alongside a handful of police and firemen....

sugarisbad · 07/06/2024 00:18

NC for this.
Hoping he is ok ,because his advice has been life changing for me and my husband who have reversed diabetes .

That means that we now don't purchase breakfast cereals ,sugary snacks or use medication .Multiply that over hundreds of thousands of people and I bet that may affect some profits .....

The island is absolutely tiny with limited resources

Because...normal human curiosity and I wanted to see where the place was 🤷‍♀️ hope your comment made you feel better about yourself though.

Poettree · 07/06/2024 00:27

Symi is tiny but very hot at this time of year and steep. It's strange that he's simply disappeared though, there really aren't many places to hide. I really like his books, I'm sorry to hear this.

Moonshine5 · 07/06/2024 00:27

I really hope he's found safe

BBC News is reporting "His phone was found in the place he was staying with his wife, who reported him missing, a police spokesperson told BBC News" whilst The Evening Standard says "It was around 1.30pm and he forgot his phone at the beach. Any and every attempt to track him down has not produced any result.”

Those are two very different statements. When I read the BBC news article, I was confused about the timeline, as it suggests that he went from the beach to the accommodation, left his phone there and then ventured out. Maybe it's nothing, but it seems like an important detail.

I hope he's safe.

Edit: spelling

The BBC's online reporting is exceptionally mangled.

I think, on this thread, people are just trying to make sense of an extraordinary situation. I’ve always felt inspired and reassured by MM’s podcasts that there’s an option to live life like him and in doing so, everything will work out well.
He understands his audience and people relate to him.
He’s been great company through his podcasts for me on car journeys as a reluctant motorway driver.
Hoping for a good outcome.

Why shouldn’t someone look at Google Maps if they want? Who is that hurting, exactly?

Twas ever thus. BBC news often infuriates me. They seem to be incapable of telling a story in chronological order.

Or perhaps you just have a heart of actual stone???

GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight · 07/06/2024 01:11

I don't know who he is, but have just caught up on Twitter via articles and really hoping he's found safe and well - he's on holiday and gone missing, if I was friends or family I'd be going frantic.

You do realise you don't need to voice every single thought out loud, right?

Suec254 · 07/06/2024 01:16

It's worldwide news now. Hope they find him ASAP, safe and well. He's great, I lost a few kgs using his books and I use the recipes all the time, they're delicious.

MyQuaintDog · 07/06/2024 01:17

I do not see any issue with the fact he had not taken his phone. I am older and although I regularly use my phone, I do not always carry it everywhere like young people do. I forget to take it with me, or let the charge run down and have to plug it in when I am going out. So he has probably just forgotten it.
Unfortunately strong heat and heart issues is not always a good mix. I hope he is okay.

Suec254 · 07/06/2024 01:18

It seems every other week, at least here in Australia, somebody goes missing after taking a hike alone. Sometimes they are found safe and well, sometimes not. Never hike alone, no matter how experienced you are. Especially if the climate is very hot or very cold. And not taking your phone is a man thing, my husband does that all the time and it's annoying.

I don't always take my phone either.
Usually do but sometimes I'll leave it charging at home.
It's quite freeing actually 😁

MegsNaiceJam · 07/06/2024 01:25

How many missing people who have fallen or been taken ill would have benefitted from
something like an Apple Watch that has fall detection tech built in and alerts authorities if you don’t cancel a call once it detects a fall.

I hope he is found, safe and well.

MyQuaintDog · 07/06/2024 01:29

He may not have fallen over though. Simply say down when he felt ill or too hot.
