Just that!

I'll start.

I have a mixed south London accent come Surrey accent.
I basically queens English with a slight chav twang.
Born and raised in south London, moved to Surrey in my teens. It's helped my vocabulary tremendously.

What accent do you have?

I bet you sound amazing!

Hermittrismegistus · 29/05/2024 15:25

I don't know what my true accent is. I change accent depending on who I'm speaking to/the situation.

Chypre · 29/05/2024 15:25

People often ask if I am from New Zealand (I am from Eastern Europe). I think my accent is shite and they are being polite.

BrotherUrgh · 29/05/2024 15:26

North Dublin with a Sarf London twang (moved over in the mid noughties).

FacingTheWall · 29/05/2024 15:27

Generic northeast. Originally Teesside, but have lived further north for thirty years now, so with a slight geordie twang.

cerisepanther73 · 29/05/2024 15:29

@nupnup
I used to have a strong brummie accent

Gradually it's developed into quite a strong Welsh accent over the years

People where i live i think prefer my Welsh lit accent better 🤔

dustyspring · 29/05/2024 15:30

A bit Scouse as I'm from the Wirral

TopBun · 29/05/2024 15:31

Fairly neutral lower middle class English, with a very slight hint of pirate when I’m drunk.

AllTheWatersTurnedToClouds · 29/05/2024 15:31

W Sussex. Have lived abroad for nearly 20 years and sound exactly the same as i did before i moved - DH too. People do comment Grin

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 29/05/2024 15:31

Home Counties but a bit less RP since living elsewhere. Very much southern though, although I live in the NW these days.

BettyBoobles · 29/05/2024 15:31

Lancashire

cerisepanther73 · 29/05/2024 15:32

@Hermittrismegistus

how on earth do you change accent depending on who you speak to and whatever particular situations 🤔 you're in,

Is it deliberately so or naturally happens?

Just wondering how that works

I am just curious as its sound quite intriguing.

SecretKeeper1 · 29/05/2024 15:33

North Yorkshire but quite posh for a northerner (it’s all relative!). I have to speak nicely for my job which has probably knocked some edges off. I live in a different part of Yorkshire now but they can tell I’m not local local.

JaneIves · 29/05/2024 15:33

Sarf London.
Although I titrate how broad it can be depending on company and circumstance, and I don't drop my T's like a lot of my family do.

I get asked often if I'm Australian, linguistically there's a very close link between cockney/Australian accents.

MonsteraMama · 29/05/2024 15:34

Depends how pissed and/or pissed off I am.

It's mostly quite a bland Cheshire/Wales border accent with a slight southern (Sussex-ish) twang courtesy of my dad, but I get more and more Welsh the drunker or angrier I get. If I start actually speaking Welsh you know I'm about to either puke in a shoe or punch someone.

SerenityNowInsanityLater · 29/05/2024 15:35

Californian. But old school, mellow and slow Californian. The current accent is different.
Been here almost 30 years and I’ve not lost my accent.

bryceQ · 29/05/2024 15:36

Geordie with London slang

Port1aCastis · 29/05/2024 15:37

West Country, I'm from Cornwall lived here all my life, some of my visitors say they can't understand me but I can't understand some of them particularly those from the N.E.

LifeExperience · 29/05/2024 15:37

According to a map in the Washington Post, mine is American Coastal Southern.

Bluevelvetsofa · 29/05/2024 15:37

Home Counties with the occasional bit of West Yorkshire.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 29/05/2024 15:37

A local accent.

OnehundredStars · 29/05/2024 15:37

It’s hard to pin down because I have moved so much (used to be cockney) now I pronounce all my letters and a bit like Eliza I’ve moved up in the world

This happens to me as well. Completely involuntary. I think it's because I lived all over the UK when I was very young which resulted in a change of accent on a regular basis. Home was RP as parents both went to boarding school as children.
