Just that!

I'll start.

I have a mixed south London accent come Surrey accent.
I basically queens English with a slight chav twang.
Born and raised in south London, moved to Surrey in my teens. It's helped my vocabulary tremendously.

I've lived in Sussex for over 20 years but still regularly get asked what part of London I'm from.
I was born and lived in South London for 25 years.

DownNative · 29/05/2024 23:14

Northern Irish accent. I'm not the type of person who easily loses their accent!

I don't sound like someone from Londonderry or Fermanagh though. Most people outside NI think of Belfast, but not quite!

gano · 29/05/2024 23:32

Brummie. I've been told it's only a soft lilt though. I work on the phone to customers and get complimented on it quite regularly. I personally think I sound bloody awful 😂

Depends who you ask. Some people think I sound posh, others (like my MIL) think I sound 'common', yet others quite often think I'm Ozzie/Kiwi/South African (I'm not).

It's basically a middle class state school North London accent.

I definitely almost involuntarily change it depending on who I'm talking to, I can up the Norf Landan dropped 'hs' or enunciate more given context. I guess it happens as I move between quite a lot of contexts and groups and I pick up on the norms within those.

It's "Code Switching".
I have a friend from Sunderland, she sounds very bland BBC English usually, but chatting to her sister or mother her accent is completely different and I don't think she realises it's happening.

Chiswick with a bit of Wexford thrown in.

Is Chiswick a posh sort of accent or just RP/media?

Similar to you, I'd imagine...born and raised in SE London before moving to Bromley aged 12 and then living in Beckenham for years and now I live in Surrey!

Posh af

Catnipcupcakes · 30/05/2024 00:43

West Yorkshire - Huddersfield, specifically. Broad as you like.

I’ve lived (with my American DH) in the USA, Germany, London and Scotland and haven’t set foot in Yorkshire for 42 years. Everyone I meet says ‘oooh, you haven’t lost your accent have you??!’ Even I find it strange.

buffyslayer · 30/05/2024 00:52

Pass
Northern people pick up that I'm not originally from here, southern people think I'm very broad northern
Mostly Bolton with a bit of Preston thrown in
Add to that Torquay, Bristol and Oxford and.. yeah Grin

summerhazedriftingby · 30/05/2024 00:56

I sound like someone from Neighbours as I grew up watching it.

Seriously, I'm asked if I'm from Australia a lot 🤣.

Violet17 · 30/05/2024 01:09

@Waitingfordoggo I have a Sussex accent. Some words I say are really broad.

MrsSkylerWhite · 30/05/2024 01:13

No one has ever managed to work out where I came from by my voice. It’s weirdly posh, has been from a very young age. From a working class family from South London so no idea why.
Have to say, it’s served me well. Been told several times that I ought to work in broadcasting 🤷‍♀️

Andtheonlyreasonwhy · 30/05/2024 01:13

I read everyone’s accent on mumsnet as my own

Layeredveg · 30/05/2024 01:22

Norn irish but a mix of different areas. I sound just norn irish to most but anybody from home can usually detect a mix of where I lived.

Goldenbear · 30/05/2024 01:36

West London, I’ve lived in Brighton for years but definitely haven’t picked up the accent.

Balancedcitizen101 · 18/01/2025 21:43

South / West Yorkshire, although softer than it used to be since moving slightly more north (within Yorkshire).

Nopetynope · 18/01/2025 22:09

Well spoken South East .

newnamethanks · 18/01/2025 22:14
