What one do you choose?

I'm just curious.

For me it's always a sprinkle doughnut Grin I never really explore other options.

@Pombearprincess we had Gypsy tart for school dinners in S London in the 1980s (not really that far from Kent!). I've a feeling I might have seen in it a bakery in Yorkshire, but since I don't like it, I didn't pay much attention.

VenusClapTrap · 22/05/2024 07:39

Yes we had gypsy tart for school dinners in Yorkshire.

mitogoshi · 22/05/2024 07:42

Bread pudding

changeison · 22/05/2024 07:45

apricot danish from the M&S bakery

AllLopsided · 22/05/2024 07:59

I would love almost all the above, but I'm gluten free so it's always a macaron, or several mini macarons. They are delicious too!

If I'm home then lardy cake (Wiltshire thing) but I love carrot cake or bread pudding ❤️❤️❤️

Sadly, lardy cake isn’t something we can claim for our own here in Wiltshire. It is a well known treat across many counties in southern England.

WoodBurningStov · 22/05/2024 08:18

Iced bun or a cream slice

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 22/05/2024 08:24

Actually, if I'm in York on a Wednesday-Friday, and I've just got off the bus at Clifford's Tower, it'll be an almond or cherry Bakewell croissant from Cosgriff and Sons bakery. They are amazing, and the part-time bakery has a lovely back story that I want to support.

Cosgriff and Sons

Well I'm going to be really keeping my eyes out everywhere I go now for local bakeries and to try some of these treats that I have never had.

I like the sound of Lardy Cake after googling - looks like something I'd enjoy.

Really going to try and find a London Cheesecake too.

Fudge donut from Fisher & Donaldsons.

My DHs favourite. I prefer a strawberry danish or strawberry tart.

Portuguese tart if trendy bakery, millionaire shortbread if not

Portuguese tarts at Lidl they’re lovely. Lidl isn’t trendy.
Got to be fresh cream slice.

Fleur240 · 22/05/2024 08:59

Oh @rinseandrepeat1 what have you done?! I now need to go to the bakery today and buy multiple cream cakes!

Littlesunshinemoon · 22/05/2024 09:05

Pombearprincess · 21/05/2024 22:06

Gypsy Tart - I'm in Kent, I've never sen it anywhere else.

I'm in Essex, they sell these here too - which makes my Kent born husband happy!

Abracadabra12345 · 22/05/2024 09:08

Now I want a cake....🍰

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 22/05/2024 09:10

twentysevendresses · 21/05/2024 22:11

Same! Custard slice or custard tart for me...or if I'm back home, a Manchester Tart 😍

Same for me 😊

EasilyDefined · 22/05/2024 09:19

Lardy cake for me, I always thought it was a Hampshire thing. Or an iced apple doughnut, which you don't see very often. Failing those two a jam doughnut.

BobnLen · 22/05/2024 09:21

Cheesecake from the cheesecake shop in the High street

shellyleppard · 22/05/2024 09:41

Heartandseoul my apologies our local baker in Swindon used to make it..... absolutely gorgeous

Toooldforthis36 · 22/05/2024 09:42

Fudge donut from Fisher & Donaldsons.

God tier baked goods 👌

positivevibesonlyx · 22/05/2024 10:57

A fudge doughnut with cream or a strawberry tart

jay55 · 22/05/2024 14:54

This thread is making me miss Percy Ingle.

Too many bakeries my way are wanky £4 for a greasy donut types.

I am a sucker for an artificial cream slice when available. Apple turnover otherwise.

AdoraBell · 22/05/2024 15:07

I’d forgotten about Percy Ingle, I used to love the iced finger buns as a child.

Pre Pandemic, I started going to a wanky coffee shop purely because my friend started working there. The (now ubiquitous) Donuts made an appearance at £4.50 each. I swear to god they were just 30p Donuts from the supermarket with a blob of custard and a wanky viola flower plonked on top.

Mad thing is, you could get a delicious, free range locally produced bacon sandwich for the same price.

There's some proper Emperors New Clothes shite out there.

I HAVE FOUND A LONDON CHEESECAKE.

I actually drove to a nearby bakery today to try some of these suggestions. I got London cheesecake and bread pudding.

Will post pics later when I have them for pudding!!
