Would you judge me for wearing shorts and not shaving?

I genuinely don't remember the last time u shaved my legs. I decided to wear shorts today.
Would you judge me if you noticed I haven't shaved my legs?
Just a general wondering. I'm quite light haired too if that makes a difference.

Would you immediately think I was gross? Or would you have as few cares about it as I do?

I wouldn't think you were gross, that's extreme! I would wonder to myself why you'd want to walk around with hairy legs though. It shouldn't matter but I think it will take another few years for the conditioning to fade out.

Shiveringinthecountry · 21/05/2024 10:07

I might notice but certainly wouldn't think anything bad about it. After all, mine are the same 😁

Bigearringsbigsmile · 21/05/2024 13:14

We will never 'smash the patriarchy' while there is so much internalised misogyny and so many women willing to judge others on crap like this.

Have you EVER heard men speaking like this about other men? Can you imagine any scenario where men would judge other me over something like this?

I take your point but I think men are far worse for judging one another pretty openly and harshly!

Seeline · 21/05/2024 13:16

And still no one willing to say what this judgement is?

Are the women dirty?
Lazy
Unfeminine?
Letting other women down?

I really don't understand what women are judging and how they can justify that judgement.
I suppose the silence implies that they can't justify it.

If I noticed I'd be envious, I hate that I feel I have to shave my legs.

Same here. I'd be envious of your confidence and I'd be thankful to you for doing your bit in normalising unshaven legs in women.

shearwater2 · 21/05/2024 13:25

People do tend to notice my legs if I have them showing as they are very muscly for a woman, though probably not as much as I imagined and worried about when I was younger. Some people find them attractive, I have had comments, others prefer more slender legs. I do go to the gym but have never specifically built my legs up, it's my natural build. DD1 has the family legs as well, DD2 very long and slender - no idea where they came from. DH is solidly built as well.

Bbq1 · 21/05/2024 13:50

Yes, if I noticed I would think it was unpleasant and unnecessary. It looks unkempt and scruffy to me. Why wouldn't you want smooth legs? Is it not uncomfortable to have very hairy legs? However, each to their own and if you're happy baring your hairy legs to the world, go for it

LoveMeLoveMySecondHead · 21/05/2024 14:05

It looks unkempt and scruffy to me.

Even if it's combed? Grin

Esgaroth · 21/05/2024 14:06

No, it's not uncomfortable at all to have hair. Why would it be?

If it was uncomfortable men would be shaving their legs, wouldn't they? There's no practical reason to do it, it's just a cultural norm that any woman can choose to ignore if she so wishes.

Ridiculous. I assume you don't expect men to shave their legs?

If its was unnecessary, I doubt we'd have any.

XenoBitch · 21/05/2024 14:24

I would not care (and probably not even notice... who is looking that closely at stranger's legs?).

Saying that, I feel obliged to shave my legs when they are on show because it is expected of me, and not because I want to. I hate that society has done that to me. So women who rock the hairy leg look... thank you for trying to normalise it.
It is the same with hairy armpits. I knew a lady who would never shave hers, and even dyed it various colours.

If men want to shave, then it's fine. I'm sure some men do.
I did say it's personal preference. I just feel cleaner and more groomed hair free, but that's just me. I am sure the hirsute ladies are clean and groomed too.

Omg really @ punky armpit lady? That is just the coolest thing ever. This woman is my hero!!!

So you hold the same judgment towards men? Unkempt and unnecessary.

Why have you added clean? What has cleanliness to do with shaving?

No I said if men want to shave their legs for whatever reason, that's fine. I'm sure a lot of people feel cleaner after shaving. Again, i did say this was a personal viewpoint and added that hairy people are also clean and groomed. It's just how I feel and i am responding to Op's question.

Ponderingwindow · 21/05/2024 15:08

You can judge me back if you want. My legs are bare and I rarely shave. Pale hair, but it is still there.

songaboutjam · 21/05/2024 16:28

I wouldn't say I felt cleaner after shaving. I tried to shave my legs once as a teen and it felt like I'd been sunburned (not sure sore flaking skin feels especially clean). I don't know why I even bothered because the hairs on my legs are light and fine.

I do feel a little less claggy / sweaty if I shave under my arms but I luckily avoided the serious BO genetics so I rarely bother. The other part - no, I don't like looking bald down there and it actually makes me feel less feminine if I get rid of the hair.

There's nothing wrong with hairy legs.

logginginloggingout · 21/05/2024 18:21

I dont go looking at peoples legs so i dont care.

JamSandle · 21/05/2024 18:22

Not in the slightest!

I don't think it's malicious judgement. Hair free legs have been ingrained in society for a few decades. Give it a few more years and won't be like that anymore.
In the meantime, they'll be mixed opinions. I couldn't sit and relax in a pair of shorts with dark hairy legs on display nor could I sunbathe in a bikini with a big bush sticking out.
