Would you judge me for wearing shorts and not shaving?

I genuinely don't remember the last time u shaved my legs. I decided to wear shorts today.
Would you judge me if you noticed I haven't shaved my legs?
Just a general wondering. I'm quite light haired too if that makes a difference.

Would you immediately think I was gross? Or would you have as few cares about it as I do?

I go out with bare unshaven legs, so if I noticed you it would give me extra confidence that it’s fine for me to do it too.

maddiemookins16mum · 20/05/2024 12:05

I wouldn’t ‘judge’, as such but if your legs are anything like mine, I’d notice.
I’m due my yearly post winter shave any day now, my legs look like a Yeti.

I don’t feel comfortable having hairy legs on show when I have a nice dress and sandals on, or shorts.

Hm. I'm actually more likely to have shaved (well, beard-trimmered) legs in winter. My socks bend all the foot and ankle hairs the wrong way, which hurts and itches, so I trim the hair off the whole sock area. But I can't stop at the ankle cause it looks like I'm wearing hairy leggings, so it has to come off up to the knee.

In summer I'm less likely to wear socks, and can therefore enjoy the breeze ruffling through my leg fur.

jolota · 20/05/2024 12:26

Interested to see the comments. I hardly ever wax my legs as I hate doing it but I do dread summer sometimes when its hot but I feel the need to keep my legs covered to avoid anyone judging.
That being said, I wouldn't be bothered by going out in public with a bit of growth, but in the depths of winter my leg hair is thick, dark and long.
I once saw an episode of that show I can't remember the name with the 'no likely no lighty', where when at the end of the date the woman said she'd had a nice time but didn't see it going further in a romantic way (super polite and kind about it), the guy turned around and said 'yeah well you missed a patch when you shaved your legs so I'm not interested anyway'.
Have always felt its so unfair that men & women are judged differently on their body hair but also don't want to deal with the shame of it all either.

buffyslayer · 20/05/2024 13:47

Can't even notice my leg hair as it's pale unless you're right next to me at leg level

And yes I do cream my feet every single night and wash them!

TeaGinandFags · 20/05/2024 14:07

Who cares?

And if anyone did, so what? Who cares about the shallow?

I've never shaved my legs and at my (advanced) age I have no intention of starting. Got to hide the various veins somehow ...

I’m genuinely curious, for those who say they would judge- why, and do you also judge men who wear shorts with unshaved legs? I can’t imagine judging someone’s body hair and I’d really like to understand why some people do.

I asked similar earlier in the thread and so far nobody has answered. I don't understand why people judge, or what exactly they are judging.

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 20/05/2024 20:05

I might notice but it wouldn't matter to me what your shaving preferences are.

I don't think it's fair to ask those questions with a faux naive tone. If you live in the UK, where MN is based and most of the members have historically been based, it is a cultural norm for women to shave their body hair. Judgement might be an extreme reaction to a step outside of that but it's not totally shocking and not is it comparable to men with leg hair, as the same standards don't apply to them and have not in recent history. It is a false equivalence.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 20/05/2024 20:12

I wouldn't notice. I don't pay attention to other people's legs unless they are exceptionally attractive .

I asked earlier too.
I genuinely would like to know what other women are judging.
What do you think about another woman with unshaved legs?
I honestly wouldn't think anything, if I even noticed in the first place.

I always feel genuine admiration when I see women in public with visibly hair on their legs or underarms etc. I would never have the confidence to do that and I get terrible eczema from shaving my legs. I think they're awesome to be freed from the societal pressure and really admire them. I have a mate who has fully grown her underarm hair years ago and I feel pride when I see her in a vest top out in the summer, and a bit secretly jealous that I know I could never be comfortable enough to do it even with just a bit of stubble.

Like I said earlier, I would likely notice (because it is unusual and I am a details person) but ultimately, your shaving preferences are your own.

However, I don't think that "judging" is that weird a reaction either. It might be unpleasant but it isn't odd, given the society we live in and the beauty standards we are exposed to. Some of us will be more susceptible to it than others, some will be from backgrounds where hair was considered 'dirty' or a 'unattractive'. We don't exist in a vacuum and those opinions and beliefs can really stick. Is it so difficult to see the shades of grey nowadays?

elm26 · 20/05/2024 20:41

I'm so conscious of my thick dark hair that I've shaved my legs every single day since I was 12. I'm now almost 31. Apart from when I've had surgery and couldn't physically do it. Even when I was heavily pregnant, I asked my DH to do it and I wish I had the confidence to just do it every now and then. I've never noticed whether a woman has bath legs or not and if I did, I wouldn't look twice or think anything of it so I don't know why I'm so self conscious!

Absolutely you should go for it and no-one should judge you. It annoys the heck out of me that some people/some men expect shaved legs and they can frankly bugger off.

pinkspeakers · 20/05/2024 20:57

I tend to admire women who don't shave.

pinkspeakers · 20/05/2024 21:02

I had a young german student who would wear a short evening dress with incredibly hairy legs (exceptionally hairy for a woman). I found it hard not to stare! But I was also impressed. It's ridiculous that it is so unusual. Nobody stares if a man shows hairy legs with shorts.

Maybe it’s the ol’ autism, but I literally don’t understand why people judge and would like someone who does to answer- no faux naivety here!

Excuse my ignorance but creaming your feet? Why? How would you even know if someone had done this? Too many questions here

I think they mean cream for cracked heels, I for one get cracked heels now & again, they become painful so use a great cream called flexitol? Skin looks pumped up & smooth.

I used to get really bad hard dry skin on my feet, made worse I guess my hard flooring and no slipper /socks. I got rid of all the hard skin with an electronic file, as I was doing regularly as they got sore and were unsightly and started moisturising by feet every night before bed, and my feet are smooth and soft , no dry or hard skin at all. I wish someone had told me years ago that’s the trick. Moisturise every night before bed. takes seconds,

Eqei · 21/05/2024 08:28

No, I wouldn’t negatively judge you. I may be a little envious 🤣

Yeah, I'm reading this thread and thinking, who ARE these people who go around peering at other women's bare legs? I have occasionally looked at women's legs and wished mine were like that, but the hairiness or otherwise passed me by.

(Team creamed feet but unpainted toenails here).

MrsSkylerWhite · 21/05/2024 09:49

This was me at the weekend. No-one noticed or if they did obviously didn’t care.

TheDefiant · 21/05/2024 09:56

I wouldn't even notice and if I did I'd silently cheer you on!
