Would you pay 8K for this?

All inclusive for a week in Greece.

I have fallen in love with the place, love the muted tones.

But is any all inclusive holiday for 7 nights worth £8,000? For 2 adults and 2 DC

I spend around £3k and find the places I go are really nice. Would it really be worth the extra £5k?

I don't have that kind of money, anyway Grin but genuinely interested to see if that type of place is worth it when you can go someone very nice for 2-3K

Personally, no. But when I go on holiday I'm looking for a bit of adventure and exploration, not ten pools and "muted tones".

"How was your holiday pinkspeakers?"
"Oh, amazing, I just loved the muted tones!"

Nope.

But whether it is worth it compared to other holidays of that type, I really couldn't tell you!

pinkspeakers · 16/05/2024 16:28

In 2018 we went to Borneo for two weeks (including a few days in Singapore). Total spend for two adults and two teenagers including flights, accommodation, all activities and food etc was about £5.5k. I know prices have probably gone up a bit but I'm confident I could still do it comfortably for £8k. Amazing holiday with accommodation ranging from the "pretty basic but still charming", to the "almost luxurious".

So no thank you.

But my independently planned and booked holiday wouldn't suit everyone.

lucindasspunkyfunkyvoice · 16/05/2024 17:49

Yes, that’s reasonable for Ikos

never been but have been to sani which is similarly priced without the all inclusive

We’ve booked Ikos Oceania, an older resort than the others, so cheaper. I think we’re paying just over £5k for the 3 of us for a week.

We paid 3.5k for 10 days in Zante last year. We worked out that we’d paid over £1k in drinks and eating out over the holiday too. So 4.5k for the holiday.
Id rather pay £500 more, have 3 less days and have IKOS.

I’ve been to Ikos twice before and no other holiday comes close, that I’ve been on at least.

We just did a 5* TUI AI in Turkey for about £1800 each. It was a lot for us but worth it. I'd do it again as it made for a very relaxed and luxurious week away.

I can't see that this is worth the extra money, particularly as a lot of the facilities are asterisked as being chargeable at the resort. For that sort of money I would expect absolutely everything to be included.

peope have mentioned the fine dining as an attraction but with children with you the Michelin chefs (who wont actually be cooking!) probably won't be your restaurants of choice!

I don’t remember anything being chargeable ! Even massages are included in Deluxe . Transfers , a day car hire , museum passes . What was charged for ?

And children are welcome and fully catered for in all the restaurants. Regardless of the fact that the menus are designed by Michelin starred chefs !

itsallabitofamystery · 16/05/2024 19:00

No i would, but only because I'd want more from a holiday for £8K. Due to one of my kids being 16 next year, prices have gone through the roof. I priced up Rhodes and it was £5.7k for the 4 of us. So I shopped around and we're now doing a 14 night cruise in an executive suite around the Caribbean for £8100. Corfu is very green...I'd be bit to death.

Marine30 · 16/05/2024 19:01

If you really love it I would say £8k is ok. As a guide we paid £10.6k for a hotel in Corfu, 5 star, all inclusive for 2 adults, 2 teens (that includes flights too) in August.
Once you’re limited to school holidays anywhere half decent is always quite expensive 😌

dahliadraws · 15/05/2024 18:12

lots of dismissals here about tui- i didn’t know they had this reputation.

can anyone recommend a package holiday company?

I wouldn't reccommend any package holiday company because I feel its much better to book separately
I book directly with hotels as that gives better flexibility and more positive outcomes if things go wrong. ditto with flights

Sotiredmjmmy · 15/05/2024 23:16

I spend that and more on sun holidays for 2 adults 2 children each year, but not for 1 week in Greece and wouldn’t do even if top end luxury

You can go to so many other places at upper 4 and 5 hotels and amazing experiences, and
for longer than a week for the same money

Could you give a few examples please if you get a chance ?

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 16/05/2024 19:12

I wouldn't, we spent just over £9k last year for a nearly 3 week road trip in California. But our depends what kind of holiday you want 😄
Heard great things about the Ikos resorts and they look beautiful.

TedWilson · 16/05/2024 19:12

It looks lovely but I couldn't justify £8k on Greece.

Donsyb · 16/05/2024 20:11

mossylog · 15/05/2024 14:23

If I'm going abroad I want to visit interesting places and eat somewhere different every day. Athens and Crete were both great, but dunno what's close to a resort in Corfu.

I don't really get the appeal of resort holidays abroad where you're just sitting beside a pool or the beach. We've got beaches and sunshine in England. Cornwall or Isle of Wight are colder, but not many thousands of pounds colder.

Maybe I'd feel different if £8k was nothing to me!

Corfu Town is beautiful, and there are also boat trips, water sports etc

IT IS NOT A TUI HOTEL

and yes, one of main points of Ikos is that you can eat in Michelin restaurants WITH children. Their dinner times is early so is child friendly

ColdWaterDipper · 16/05/2024 20:24

I wouldn’t - just think of all the other people that will be there! But then I would never go on an all inclusive holiday for that very reason - I don’t want to share a pool or grounds with people outside of my family. I would pay £8k for a really nice villa holiday with a private chef coming in, but only if it was somewhere a bit more exotic than corfu.

Toptops · 16/05/2024 20:29

I just don't get going to Greece for this kind of holiday. Greece for me is a beloved holiday destination which is simple, low cost and beautiful We've been coming to greece for years and years.
You might as well go to Dubai or somewhere else like that hot for that kind of thing.

Popsielady · 16/05/2024 20:33

Package operators like this are often a rip off! these companies are there to make a profit from people who are unable or don’t want to risk booking things direct themselves or self catering for a less cost. You often end up paying for things/food / drinks you may not even use and be “trapped” in your hotel to get full value of the package. Saying that I have booked a package with travelbag for similar price to do an ultimate family round trip to Dubai, Sri Lanka and Maldives - for over 2.5 weeks so there are some better deals out there.

OldPerson · 16/05/2024 21:00

No it's really not.

All-inclusive holidays are a really good option for families with children. If the kids want a snack or a drink - they're always available. All meals are included. Almost guaranteed friends for your children to play with.

All-inclusive holidays are for people who budget, plan and pre-pay.

If you have an extra £5K, then plan your own accommodation and flights and paying for your food.

You'll find better accommodation and flights - and with an extra £5k, you won't even notice the airport transfer, taxi and restaurant bills, and you'll still come home with £3-4k.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 16/05/2024 21:55

No but all-inclusive, sharing a pool etc doesn't appeal to me. I'd want more of an adventure for £8000. However it looks lovely if that's your thing.

DressOrSkirt · 16/05/2024 22:05

@treatsortreating

"I have fallen in love with the place, love the muted tones."

I fear you might be considering spending an extra £5k on having beige interiors for a week. In the nicest way possible, give your head a wobble!

Xyz1234567 · 16/05/2024 22:09

I would never spend that much for what would be an extremely boring holiday for me. I would rather spend it on an interesting grand driving tour all over Europe or visiting South America or maybe a trip to Scandinavia. Actually pretty much anything would be preferable but you are not me.

blue345 · 16/05/2024 22:26

I've been to ikos Andalusia in Spain and Aria in Greece. £3k for one, £6.5k for the other (family of 3 for a week).

They're amazing, nothing like your usual European all inclusive but they can get ridiculously expensive at certain times.

RomeoRivers · 16/05/2024 22:36

We’re going to Ikos Olivia in a few weeks- 1st timers!

Currently at an AI in Tenerife with a private pool that cost half the price. We wanted to do a direct comparison to see if it really is worth the extra ££££ - I fear it will be!

mrssunshinexxx · 17/05/2024 07:17

Really wouldn't say it looks any nicer than where we go in turkey and pay half that for

blue345 · 17/05/2024 07:22

I'd say so. Amazing food, staff are desperately keen to deliver outstanding service, no sunbed hogging (and they clean your sunglasses), constant offers of drinks and food.

It's very hard to leave. If I'm being ultra critical, I thought Andalusia was better service/food (and bigger rooms) than Aria, but Aria has beautiful sea. The evening shows are rather lame but there's not much else I could fault. It's chalk and cheese to any other AI I've been to, including the Caribbean (though I haven't been to the Maldives).

It’s also really nice that everything is included, room service, champagne, all the food. The only extras I can think of are spa treatments and motorised water sports.

Pipsquiggle · 17/05/2024 07:22

@mrssunshinexxx
@Iloveburgerswaymorethanishould
And everyone else saying you pay half going to Turkey and it's just as good
Please can you mention specific resorts so we can go and have a look and maybe book next year.
TIA
