Would you pay 8K for this?

All inclusive for a week in Greece.

I have fallen in love with the place, love the muted tones.

But is any all inclusive holiday for 7 nights worth £8,000? For 2 adults and 2 DC

I spend around £3k and find the places I go are really nice. Would it really be worth the extra £5k?

I don't have that kind of money, anyway Grin but genuinely interested to see if that type of place is worth it when you can go someone very nice for 2-3K

I don’t think I’d ever be able to bring myself to spend 8k on a holiday.. I am not a big holiday person and actually don’t really enjoy them that much- it looks pretty in pictures but 8K!!! You could do a lot with 8k. I would rather invest in an iconic bag or a car or deposit or new kitchen.. or rescape the garden.. made to measure geeenhouse/orangerie.. my list could go on!! All of these so much more value to my life than a short holiday… and hold value in some way. That’s something I can’t fathom with dropping big cash on a holiday.. you literally have nothing to show for it in a few weeks time!

8k is a lot of money for a holiday and wouldn't be something i would pay or could afford for that.
But i would rather have a holiday than a 'iconic' bag.
Memories last a lifetime. Possessions do nothing for me.

It's all-inclusive ultra. Everything is top notch.

The link posted by a PP (https://www.tui.co.uk/destinations/greece/ionian-islands/corfu/dassia/hotels/ikos-odisia.html) says "Selected local-brand alcohol, soft drinks, tea and coffee". For 8k a week I want Bombay Sapphire and Fever Tree (at least), not knock-off Greek gin and fountain tonic.

Also, the blurb sounds like it was written by (and for) a Jeremy Clarkson wannabe: "The luxurious Ikos Odisia ... flaunts 10 pools and a fancy spa* – and that's just for starters", "This sprawling spot is primed for some first-class R&R", "The facilities line-up packs a punch, too".

Oh, and "menus designed by Michelin-starred chefs" is not the same as "menus cooked by Michelin-starred chefs". Heston Blumenthal once designed a menu for Little Chef, if I remember correctly.

Ooh yeah I'd expect a choice of premium brand spirits for that price.

DeadbeatYoda · 16/05/2024 07:55

Christ, no. I'd rent a gorgeous villa and eat out.

@5YearsLeft exactly. We stayed at a 60 euro a night hotel in Perpignan last summer. The new ish owners were rennovating it and they had gone for the very popular and mainstrean "muted tones" - our bedroom was painted greige and sage green with white linen (tbf it still had the hilariously 70s brown tiled bathroom but I was kind of in to that).

Somepeoplearesnippy · 16/05/2024 09:12

We just did a 5* TUI AI in Turkey for about £1800 each. It was a lot for us but worth it. I'd do it again as it made for a very relaxed and luxurious week away.

I can't see that this is worth the extra money, particularly as a lot of the facilities are asterisked as being chargeable at the resort. For that sort of money I would expect absolutely everything to be included.

peope have mentioned the fine dining as an attraction but with children with you the Michelin chefs (who wont actually be cooking!) probably won't be your restaurants of choice!

Chewbecca · 16/05/2024 10:05

All these people saying you wouldn't like AI because you want local colour & cuisine - you know they don't lock you in?

of course, but it feels wasteful to pay all that ££ for AI then eat / drink elsewhere.

I think the point people are missing is that this type of holiday is not aimed at the demographic which can only afford one holiday a year, or for whom counting the pennies is a priority.

A more typical Ikos-er is someone who travels a lot on business, so sees a lot of other countries/cultures, eats a lot of local food and takes multiple other more exciting holidays too.

Ikos is 100% luxury, with 0 effort, for a lot of people they need/want at least one trip like that a year.

I don't agree at all. DH and I have pressurised jobs where we are "on" and smart(ish) all the time. We would rather stick pins in our eyes than have to dine in a dining room with tidy hair, make-up for me and tidy clothes. Bliss for us is to be in a villa where we can pretty much be barefoot and scruffy with no need to nod genially at the next table, let alone overhear them. We want no scrutiny on holiday.

Villa all the way with a few trips to a local restaurant/taverna.

PianoManager · 16/05/2024 10:42

Not for 1 week.

Yes if it was for 2.

…so you’re not typical of the demographic that frequents Ikos, so how can you either agree/disagree with my post?

Isn’t that poster saying she is the typical demographic and yet it wouldn’t be her taste anyway?

I’m in marmaris. Would love to go Antalya but I’m a red head with lupus and would defo not cope in that heat lol!!

Me too. Do you think Marmaris then. Husband wants a lazy week in Antalya but I would like Marmaris, think there might be more to do there than Antalya

We’re going this year and paying more. I hope it’s worth it! We’ve done lots of villa holidays and I put my foot down and said I wanted a drop and flop holiday where I didn’t have to do anything.

I get the ‘muted tones’ thing- there is a certain aesthetic that means you can tell if a room is sani or ikos. I’m not sure why people are comparing it with backpacking in India. Of course that’s cheaper- been there and done that but there is literally no way I’d want to do backpacking in India with two small children so it’s a stupid comparison.

If you’ve got the money and you want to try it, go for it. It’s a lot and it has taken some time for me to square the cost but I want a chilled out break without a long-haul flight. You can get good value long-haul but Ikos has cornered the market for people who want a bit of luxury without having to be on a plane for 10 hours.

I also don’t get the snobbery around all inclusive. The last AI I did was in the Maldives and it was amazing. At these prices you’re not getting a buffet all the time- it’s all about a la carte.

I couldn’t think of a worse holiday than trekking around India- My friend & her hubby have just come back, she hated everything about it, she said it’s a dirty hole, people doing their business off the edge of the pavement, both picked up a nasty virus 😩

AppaTheSixLeggedFlyingBison · 15/05/2024 20:11

How old are the children? Apart from one small splash park it doesnt seem all that child friendly

Ikos resorts are incredibly child friendly. To the extent that I would not go unless it was with DC.

Grand Yazzici turban or green nature diamond…there’s loads and loads to do or you can just chill in resort. I usually
like doing the day trips etc whilst here but there’s no need to leave the place if you don’t want.

ExpectoPatronums · 16/05/2024 12:49

I really like the look of it, however what puts me off is there's no option for the children sleep on anything other than a sofa bed. That really isn't very luxurious to me, I would like my children to have a proper bed, of their own!

Katiesaidthat · 16/05/2024 12:56

I would never do an all inclusive in Europe, no thanks. Would at other parts of the world where your life is in danger if you leave the resort.

Agreed - we’ve holidayed all over the world - South America, Botswana, Japan, Indonesia etc but occasionally we enjoy a week at Ikos - luxurious surroundings, food and services.

Blondiebeachbabe · 16/05/2024 13:10

Er, no. You could do two weeks in the Caribbean for £8k. That's what by brain would struggle with.

DH and I are actually spending £10k on our holiday this year, BUT that is to Singapore and Australia, for 3 weeks, staying at top hotels the whole time.

We have also, in recent years, spent as little as £800 each, for a cheapy AI holiday, which was lovely.

A week in Greece should not cost £8k ever, imo.

FrenchandSaunders · 16/05/2024 13:21

I'm sitting here wondering if they make everyone get out the pool at 6pm and start putting barriers up. That's one of my biggest bug bears with AI ... I like a late swim, even a midnight swim, and also an early one, especially if I had parted with £8K!

ofeheff · 16/05/2024 13:25

Ikos and Sani are not 5*AI mainstream hotels. They are in the top5% and the value you get is not comparable to the value you get from holidays you pay 2/3k for.
someone said “top notch” and it is top notch!

same goes for 5AI hotels in turkey only a handful are really 5 AI where you don’t have to hunt for sun lounger at 5am in the morning, where service is proactive not reactive, food is just out of this world and not just plentiful as all AI offer.

ikos and sani are very comparable to Regnum, Cullinan, Maxx Royal in Antalya. The difference between these per week amounts to c. 8-10k more versus mainstream 5* AI.

if noise, behaviour, quality if food , decor and service ate not that important then definitely go for a 2/3k holiday.

ikos is not a TUi holiday, but like most agents they also sell exclusive top luxury holidays and Ikos is one of the hotels in that category.
you can book it separately but it will cost you the same or more.

Ginmonkeyagain · 16/05/2024 13:33

This thread is reminding me of a hotel in an episode of that BBC posh hotels programme. It was an entirely rebuilt medieval village in Puglia santised for 5 star hotel guests. It was the maddest thing.

CactusMactus · 16/05/2024 14:48

For 8k I would go to Mexico or Thailand.
