Would you pay 8K for this?

All inclusive for a week in Greece.

I have fallen in love with the place, love the muted tones.

But is any all inclusive holiday for 7 nights worth £8,000? For 2 adults and 2 DC

I spend around £3k and find the places I go are really nice. Would it really be worth the extra £5k?

I don't have that kind of money, anyway Grin but genuinely interested to see if that type of place is worth it when you can go someone very nice for 2-3K

I was going to say yes until I saw the kids pool! Rixos premium seagate in Egypt or Delphin Be Grand in turkey are much better for DC and a fraction of the price

mjf981 · 15/05/2024 21:37

Nah. It’s on the east side of the island. If I’m paying that, I’d want west facing for amazing sunsets over the ocean. Random but true!!

Blankscreen · 15/05/2024 21:37

I wouldn't spend £8k on a summer holiday there.

I'll spend £8k on a week's skiing holiday so I guess it just what floats your boat.

It looks lovely but ultimately no I wouldn't pay that amount of money for a beach holiday

GettingStuffed · 15/05/2024 21:41

All inclusives in Greece have wrecked the local economy on a lot of islands. I'd rather go self catering and support the locals.

Just not a fan of AI at all. When I visit another country I like to travel round it and check out the culture and history, culture the food. People who go on AI just slob on the loungers by the pool eating and drinking. Not for me, but hey, each to their own….

That wasn’t really the question though.

It’s more if I want an AI is it worth it. I think it is

ive done it 3 times and it’s amazing if you want an unmarket all inclusive

I have also just booked a 2 week tour for 4 in the far east staying in 3* hotels with intrepid for £9k. I imagine that’s just as worth it but it’s different: it’s a travel holiday not a fly and flop luxury one

Othersideofworld · 15/05/2024 21:59

This is an ad for TUI surely …

SuuzeeeQ · 15/05/2024 22:10

I spent 8k on two weeks in the Maldives so no way would I spend that on Greece in an Ai Resort.

H0ghedge · 15/05/2024 22:15

I've been to 2 Ikos. It's a super easy, relaxing holiday. You won't have to worry about getting sunbeds, crap food, maintenance issues etc. But for me the food isn't good enough - I'd rather take my pick of the best local eateries. And they fobbed me off twice with sea view rooms which had terrible views (we got moved and partially refunded). I went last year to a much smaller apartment complex, not half as luxurious, but more rustic, more "Greek", and local food and exploring was fantastic. We can't / won't afford Ikos school holiday prices but we are happy with our alternative.

Bellie710 · 15/05/2024 22:16

We spent around £8k going to Thailand and Singapore last year, staying in amazing hotels. There is no way I would spend that money on 7 nights in Europe, unless I was a millionaire and it was just a quick getaway!

I always base my decision on the colour of the bedspread! Muted tones indeed

Ikos hotels are exceptional.

I keep hearing this but when I look at pics I'm seeing the usual bland white rabbit hutch hotels??

Exceptional to me is ancient tuscan castle with history and personality quirky features and beautiful scenery.
Etc I can't understand this love for a white room in a mass built commercials hotel!

rmc2001 · 15/05/2024 22:32

I think if I was spending 8k I'd want to be in the Caribbean.
Not all inclusive and outside of school holidays (and nowhere near as fancy as that), but I've been looking at deals of £200pp in Greece, or £600pp in St Lucia.
Everyone has different priorities with holidays though. I'm a student, and would rather have several cheap holidays than one super expensive one. I also don't think there's much point in spending a ton on a hotel when most of your holiday is spent out and about. But if your priorities are a gorgeous hotel and you think it's worth it then go for it (but check that the reviews are good, especially with regards to food offerings and sun lounger availability).

washrinse · 15/05/2024 22:35

We spent not far off that for a Neilson holiday in Greece. It was absolutely worth it. We can’t afford to do it again anytime soon and I get the point that it’s not that exciting and you could go so much further afield etc but for our family we couldn’t have had more fun or felt more relaxed for a week.

We made full use of the bikes, SUPs, kayaks etc, I did yoga daily, DH played tennis daily, the kids made lovely friends and were active non stop all week. The food was actually great (I wasn’t expecting that!)

Happyearlyretirement · 15/05/2024 22:37

Have spent 10k on family of four luxury holidays when we were both working, loved every minute, amazing memories that will last a lifetime. If you can afford it go for it.

Teenagehorrorbag · 15/05/2024 22:39

Not in a million years. Up to people what they want to spend their money on, but I hate all inclusive as I want to go out to different bars and restaurants when I choose, and not be tied to a resort. We like to be out and about and don't really care about the place where we are just sleeping/washing - so have booked a one bed apartment in Crete in July for us and teenage DCs, for about £1400. We can self cater (breakfast...😁) and it has a cafe/bar and pool, with about 20 apartments altogether.

We can walk to the beach, walk to the old town, and will probably hire a car if there aren't easy buses to other places.

This is a package with transfers etc but when the kids were younger we had apartments in Spain with similar set up and hired a car for the week. Total freedom but could do pizza at home or BBQ if the kids were tired, and could lie by the pool in the morning before heading off for the afternoon, etc. Could walk down to the local marina and restaurants and dance in the livelier bars, before the kids were too tired and we'd head back.

It's all about flexibility and seeing the country you are staying in - all inclusive maybe luxurious if you pay top notch - but what a waste to stay on site all the time! Not my idea of fun, and certainly not for £8K!

RogueFemale · 15/05/2024 22:43

It looks awful to me. Bland, no privacy. Just a slightly posher version of a Costa del Sol package. For £8K? No fucking way.

EnglishBluebell · 15/05/2024 22:47

Muted tones? You base your holiday decisions on the colours? What?

IcySpritz · 15/05/2024 22:49

Ikos hotels are amazing to be fair. Totally depends on your budget whether it's reasonable.

We found it was cheaper to go through Ikos direct rather than a package and 24 hours after arriving the first time we got an upgrade. After leaving we got an email with a discount off our next stay so just book direct now.

It's the service mainly, but also the selections of pools / restaurants / food and drink. Not to everyone's taste though as it is an all inclusive at the end of the day.

They have a WhatsApp concierge where you massage at any time of day / night and they will bring what you asked for to your room / villa. We would message when leaving the pool on our way back to get ready for the evening asking for beers/ a bottle of wine / crisps and they would arrive at the door within about 10 mins. Pure gluttony Grin

babyproblems · 15/05/2024 23:02

I don’t think I’d ever be able to bring myself to spend 8k on a holiday.. I am not a big holiday person and actually don’t really enjoy them that much- it looks pretty in pictures but 8K!!! You could do a lot with 8k. I would rather invest in an iconic bag or a car or deposit or new kitchen.. or rescape the garden.. made to measure geeenhouse/orangerie.. my list could go on!! All of these so much more value to my life than a short holiday… and hold value in some way. That’s something I can’t fathom with dropping big cash on a holiday.. you literally have nothing to show for it in a few weeks time!

Wherehas2023gone · 15/05/2024 23:03

We went to one Ikos hotel for a multigenerational family holiday. It was a bit of a blow out but much cheaper than it is now.
The Tattinger on demand, service and wine lists were superb (I have never had my sunglasses cleaned by the pool before). We were there in half term and were definitely at the less wealthy end of the scale (right at the bottom end!)
Most of the other guests were lovely and polite; however our room was next to an obnoxious former boyband member who was so loud we couldn't enjoy our balcony. i actually figured out who he was from his loud conversation with his wife reminiscing who had knocked them off the number one spot (that was after the horrendous fat shaming conversation!)

if you’re after an easy luxury holiday go for it, but I’d say as a one off as there are so many amazing alternatives, just you’ll have to pay for the decent wine!

Ikos and Sani are the names of the groups. I vaguely recall Ikos being a spin-off of Sani but I could be wrong.

Ikos is a fantastic range of hotels. We went to the Ikos on Kos in 2019 when it had only been open a couple of weeks. Then stayed at the Olivia the same summer. Booked to go again in 2020 but of course, lockdown buggered that up. Went to the Olivia in August 2022. Last ever holiday with my late wife so bittersweet memories.

It's all-inclusive ultra. Everything is top notch. Room service on the beach was great and we were never beach people before staying at an Ikos.

You will probably be very happy just staying on-site as it's so big but make use of the free car for a day to explore.

It's all-inclusive ultra. Everything is top notch.

The link posted by a PP (https://www.tui.co.uk/destinations/greece/ionian-islands/corfu/dassia/hotels/ikos-odisia.html) says "Selected local-brand alcohol, soft drinks, tea and coffee". For 8k a week I want Bombay Sapphire and Fever Tree (at least), not knock-off Greek gin and fountain tonic.

Also, the blurb sounds like it was written by (and for) a Jeremy Clarkson wannabe: "The luxurious Ikos Odisia ... flaunts 10 pools and a fancy spa* – and that's just for starters", "This sprawling spot is primed for some first-class R&R", "The facilities line-up packs a punch, too".

Oh, and "menus designed by Michelin-starred chefs" is not the same as "menus cooked by Michelin-starred chefs". Heston Blumenthal once designed a menu for Little Chef, if I remember correctly.

now, a week skiing in half term apparently approaches 8K. Not sure what to about that!

Very much depends on where you go! We fly into Munich, get the train over to Austria, stay in a (lovely) self catered apartment. It’s about £5k for five of us. There are Crystalski packages for about £800pp half board including flights.

Still bloody expensive (I so miss going in January for half that price!), but nowhere near £8k for four.

thank you! I’ll have a look.
it’s going to be our first year with half term palaver so new to this.
Love skiing in Austria, for me it is so much better than France/Switzerland.
Any particular resorts you could recommend?

our issue which will drive the price up is childcare for the baby, and for eldest too to be fair, she’s too young for anything other than 2h of ski school in the morning. I was told about Kinderhotels which have lots of options in Austria, need to check them out

coupdetonnerre · 15/05/2024 23:13

Ikos is lovely but why would you use Tui? And yes I'd pay that.
