Whats NEVER on your list?

When you do a food shop, what food(s) would never ever make it to your trolley?

I have never and will never buy bell peppers, just the smell makes me heave and they have no place in any of my dinners. Pineapple too.

Things i automatically pick up without having to think.. olives, spinach and red leicester cheese.

@jlox I also don't like red leicester. Will always pick up parmesan, pecorino, feta, manchego, any triple creme like a Delice de Bourgogne or a Brillat Savarin, any goat's cheese like a chevre or a rosary ash. Also love a Comte, or Alpblossom that has the flowers all over the outside.

Some really nice artisanal British cheeses available these days like Baron Bigod, Bix, Spenwood, Waterloo, Wigmore. I also like some of the Cornish ones like Yarg, Boy Laity and Nanny Florrie.

Tins or jars of meat or fish (with tuna steak a notable exception).

Any form of sweet baked goods (cakes, pastries etc) or biscuits. Also sweets generally. If I'm going to get something sweet and calorific it's going to be chocolate.

Tinned veg other than tomatoes and mushy peas on occasion.

Coriander! For those who are protesting the coriander hate, a lot of people actually have a genetic predisposition to think it tastes like soap and I am one of them!

Most stuff from the Chinese section other than soy sauce, especially anything sweet and sour or anything like sweet chilli sauce.

Cheap meat or ham etc. Would rather eat less but get good quality.

Margarine.

Salad tomatoes (vine, cherry and baby plum are ok).

shearwater2 · 14/05/2024 13:46

Tinned meat, Fray Bentos pies, fake meat products, Mr Kipling's or other cake, tinned fruit, most ready meals, evaporated milk, fake cream, Viennetta, tinned pasta.

Apart from the fake meat, a lot of the stuff I grew up eating at home in the 1980s.

Giggorata · 14/05/2024 13:50

Anything derived from a goat.
Red Leicester
pear drops
tripe
white fish, unless it's included with other types, in a fish pie.
kippers, can't be doing with all the bones.
instant coffee
margarine (do they even still make it?)
white sliced bread
brown sauce
packet salad
plain dry cake
rolls with icing on
rice cakes

I just get a mature cheddar. I like a cheese packed with flavour. Red Leicester is really bland to me.

DeanElderberry · 14/05/2024 14:40

Don't buy, won't buy - margarine, seed oils, skimmed milk, non-dairy 'milk', low-fat versions of things, artificial sweeteners, palm oil, fruit juice except tomato juice, things marketed as snacks.

Staples - fruit, vegetables, mushrooms, tea, cocoa, rashers, fresh meat, assorted deli meats, nuts, dried fruit, butter, lard, assorted cheeses, natural yoghurt, whole milk, double cream, creme fraiche, olive oil, anchovies, olives, eggs, canned tomatoes, chickpeas, frozen peas, green beans, spinach, berries, wine, all sorts of spices and seeds.

Always have salt and sugar in the house, usually have coffee though I don't drink it myself.

GazillionPens · 14/05/2024 14:40

I was just thinking that I'd buy any of this, and then a pp reminded me of goats cheese.

I can safely say I will NEVER buy goats cheese. Devil's armpit cheese.

JamSandle · 14/05/2024 14:43

Baked beans

RandomUsernameHere · 14/05/2024 14:44

Goat's cheese

Tarkan · 14/05/2024 14:47

Bell peppers

Olives

Mint the herb/mint sauce - just the smell makes me gag

Anything that is minted because of the previous reason. Ready made cous cous salads and prepared baby potatoes are the worst for it.

Peas - can't stand the things, don't mind the occasional can of mushy peas but I need to double check they aren't secretly minty ones

Grapefruit - DC and I are on medication where we can't have it

Marzipan - the worst thing you can put near a cake
