Do you think Michael Jackson was guilty?

Of the sexual abuse of boys.
I'm interested in a poll.
G = you think he was definitely guilty
I = you think he was innocent
(Stemming from a debate with DH last night!)

Of course. I can't understand how his music is still allowed on the radio.

inappropriateraspberry · 12/05/2024 10:06

Guilty. But a very messed up person with so many issues that weren't faced or admitted.
But also a weird creep.

As for playing his music, well it's a tricky one but you'd be amazed how many great works of art (painting, literature, music etc) would get "cancelled" if we took into account the deplorable actions of their creators

Sarah2891 · 12/05/2024 10:11

100% no doubt about it. I believe the victims.

LeviOsaNotLeviosaa · 12/05/2024 10:12

Unequivocally guilty, and I'm actually quite frightened by those who refuse to accept it.

Yeah I really don't know how anyone could think he was innocent. He died at the right time really, there no doubt would've been other court cases and eventually one would've got him. But as has already been said, he's still a money maker in death and there's enough family living off his legacy that there's far too much investment in the element of doubt.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who thinks he's innocent and why/how?

Northernlights1234 · 12/05/2024 10:17

Guilty for sure. Anyone who hangs around with young children, especially sleeping with them in his own bed (wtf were their parents allowing) can't possibly be innocent of any wrong doing.

Thecatisboss · 12/05/2024 10:18

Guilty as anything

TheYearOfSmallThings · 12/05/2024 10:22

The fact that MJ the musical is being widely promoted with no mention of the abuse is shocking to me. It is like making a fun musical about Jimmy Saville featuring lots of great sixties and seventies music and making no mention of his abuse. Who the fuck would go to that? So why do people go to MJ the musical?

CitizenZ · 12/05/2024 10:27

GUILTY!

muggart · 12/05/2024 10:41

I think it's fairly obvious he was guilty but playing the songs doesn't bother me, it's not like he's able to profit from it and the songs don't glamorise child abuse.

The fans in denials are sick but I've never understood extreme fandom. When the Lostprophets singer went to prison I saw an online discussion where ardent fans were saying he'd been stitched up, this was AFTER he'd pled guilty and there was a video of him shown in court raping a baby. I think some people are just idiots, or maybe perverts themselves.

widgitfidgit · 12/05/2024 10:42

I absolutely think he was guilty. I also think he was abused as a child. It does not excuse anything

Ereyraa · 12/05/2024 10:43

Absolutely. But the parents who allowed their young children to stay over and turned a blind eye, for fame and money as just as disgusting, IMO.

Oblomov24 · 12/05/2024 10:48

How could he not be. The victim's testimony was overwhelming.

Runnerduck34 · 12/05/2024 10:49

Guilty
After watching the documentary there is compelling evidence.
For all his talents and fame he clearly had a very troubled childhood which left its mark.
And people were, still are, blinded by fame and talent, I mean why would you allow your child to go to a sleepover at an adult mans house and share his bed!!!!!

Thewolvesarerunningagain · 12/05/2024 10:49

Guilty as a lurcher in a cake shop

DinaofCloud9 · 12/05/2024 10:49

Yes definitely G.

I don't understand how people can think he's innocent.

PhuckyNell · 12/05/2024 10:51

@Ioverslept yes I agree with this

I'm on the app so can't vote but was only talking to DH about this yesterday that the BBC have no qualms about playing MJ songs on the radio, which to my mind is almost akin to running repeats of Jim'll Fix It.

I 100% think Michael Jackson was guilty but he somehow seems entirely uncancellable.

This.
Ian Watkins and Gary Glitter will quite rightly never get mainstream airplay again, but MJ will. OK I know IW and GG were found guilty and MJ wasn't, but JS was never found guilty either and as you said Jim'll Fix It will never be repeated, and he's been edited out of the Peter Kay/Comic Relief video. The official one anyway, the original is still on YouTube.

Yes, definitely. I think we have to separate the art from the artist. A lot of artists are very damaged people.
I too think he's guilty.

twilightcafe · 12/05/2024 10:55

Guilty as sin.

esmeisa · 12/05/2024 10:56

Guilty, but like so many abusers, he was clearly a damaged individual and a victim of abuse himself.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 12/05/2024 11:01

Guilty
