CF allotment thief thread no 4 - Babs’s dodgy solicitor and TV producers looking to cast for the role of Penfold?

New thread! Last one was here
www.mumsnet.com/talk/_chat/5049200-cf-allotment-thief-part-3-the-plot-thickens-and-auditions-begin-for-the-west-end-musical?page=38&reply=135136744

So a quick update.

DH dropped me off for my surgery this morning then dropped the kids at school before heading to the allotment. Babs was there gardening as were some other people on their own plots. All her crap was still there

DH went up and reminded her that she needs to be off the plot by the 20th. She said that she is awaiting advice from her solicitor to see if she can challenge us. She also said if the solicitor says she has to be off, she will be gone by the 20th but isn’t giving it up without checking if she has rights first. She did a fair bit of guilt tripping to DH about how she has spent 10 years being part of a community and having a hobby and she now has to give it all up but he held strong and told her, unless she comes back with a legitimate legal claim her property will be off the allotment by the 21st - wether it’s removed by her or by him.

However - enter Penfold stage right

Penfold is what we are calling the allotment neighbour who marched over from the other side of the plots (because that’s who he looks like). He started shouting at DH saying “You’re a bully! Fancy picking on an old lady and taking her allotment off her after all her years of hard work”. He pointed out it’s his allotment now and Penfold said that “just because your name is on a piece of paper it doesn’t give you the right to steal it off it’s rightful owner”. He then start saying “What do you know about gardening pretty boy? These allotments should be for real gardeners not pretty boys like you”

When DH told me this I laughed so hard I thought my stitches may burst 😂 DH IS very pretty but he’s also mid-40’s and hasn’t been called pretty in many many years. We are in semi-rural Yorkshire though and a man wearing a top that isn’t either blue black or white is considered a feminine.

When DH stated he does actually know about gardening, Penfold was all “Yeah right yeah right all you know about is putting your make up on” 🤣🤣 and said how these allotment owners have been around for decades he can’t just barge in and kick people out. DH said he was half expecting Penfold to say “this is a local allotment for local people”.

Then it was BABS of all people who told Penfold to STFU. Not quite those words but she said “oh do calm down Nigel”. The other plot owners just kept their heads down apparently. DH took off in the end but he is considering buying a Danger Mouse t-shirt to wear when he gardens. I’ve told him I can help him apply his make up 😂.

Anyway Babs’s words don’t exactly fill me with confidence but it’s better than flat out refusing to leave I suppose. I’m absolutely confident that legally she hasn’t a leg to stand on, but that doesn’t mean some dodgy solicitor won’t claim otherwise for a bit of easy money off her. Either way unless there is a claim that has legs (highly unlikely) DH will be round on the 21st to set up his stuff. PP were right about insane allotment owners - but we are just gonna have to lump it and not let Penfold ruin our time there.

Just a thought. If @YaMuvva is having to go down the legal route with Babs, she may have decided or been advised not to continue with this thread. 🤷‍♀️

I don't feel you communicated the full drama of the crows thread. She didn't just disappear. She disappeared after casually saying she was taking the dogs for a walk IN THE CROW FIELD and she'd be back shortly! AND NEVER RETURNED. THE CROWS GOT HER.

You are quite right, @longapple , it was absolutely absorbing and better than anything on the telly.

Actually I also had a weird crow experience. I have a cat who likes to come for a walk with the dogs and I in the evening, and we have a lovely walking/cycling track right behind my house. One night I noticed a magpie chittering at us as we walked past. And then swooping from branch to branch to follow us quite a way. Then a second joined in and they started swooping at the cat. We decided to turn around and walk home because the birds were getting more aggressive and I was worried they might attack her. As I turned I looked up and there was a tree absolutely full of crows and magpies looking at us -at least 20+. I fully expected we would get pecked to death. Picked up the cat to protect her and they all immediately took flight. It was very spooky.

I really hope the OP puts makeup on her gnomes though. And I really hope she comes back.

Unverified, but someone said they’d heard OP was as ok as could be expected but was taking a few days away from here/this thread.
hopefully that’s the case and OP will come back when she’s good and ready

Where did you read that?

I read it to, quite late.

This is what I've been wondering. There have been other threads where an OP has reported they've been advised by counsel to keep quiet. In a few cases threads have been deleted because of it.

@YaMuvva Wish you the best both in your recovery and with Babs.

Skyedancer · 25/05/2024 00:40

Really hope you’re feeling better OP

Oh God now I'm really worried. Like a PP said, she was even posting the day of her operation....

I’m thinking it’s something else completely 🤞
Id love an update too,

TroysMammy · 26/05/2024 07:54

After her surgery she did mention she had exhaustion, breathlessness and pain and then the next day was the last post.

BeesForHoney · 26/05/2024 12:01

I understand Op is peeved at Mumsnet on a topic that doesn't show up on active conversations?

YaMuvva · 26/05/2024 12:05

Morning all

Apologies for the hiatus - I have been on the MN naughty step and had a week ban for calling out racism. Apparently making racist comments is acceptable but you get a week ban if you aren’t naice and #BeKind when calling racism out.

Hoping I don’t go back on the naughty step for saying that here but hey it’s the truth about why I’ve been away.

ANYHOO

Im afraid it’s all very anticlimactic.

DH and DB went down on a cold Yorkshire day on Tuesday, to find <drum roll> everything gone and the rotting old shed left standing. They just dismantled the shed and took it to the tip, couldn’t be arsed with the faff of getting Babs’ permission.

Nothing was spoilt and DH was there yesterday after Tuesday as the weather has been totally shit, but he’s got a few things going and the new shed is being delivered on Tuesday which he is very excited about! He’s barely seen anyone at the allotment and no Penfold!

In other news - garage theif died 😱 he’d had a heart attack and was blue lighted to hospital last week but died on arrival. I only bloody found out when I saw what turned out to be his sister was trying to get into our garage the next day! I sent DH out who was told the news. The garage thief’s sister was totally snotty and adamant it was her brother’s garage, DH had to show her our title plan in the end. She also moved into his house literally the day after he died, and has been a bit of a twat ever since - standing outside our house moaning about our parking (which is absolutely fine!), the fact we ‘took’ her garage, the fact we have a Ring doorbell which is apparently illegal. I’m sorry for her loss but she’s clearly an oddbod and I’m hoping this behaviour is just grief.

In health news it turns out I had a blood infection which explains the difficult recovery. I’m loads better now and I’m actually going to the pub round the corner today to watch the Leeds Utd match (as if life isn’t hard enough, sorry Leeds 😂). Hopefully I’ll make it through the match.

No sight of Babs, I think she’s gonna on holiday as her car hasn’t moved and not spotted her once.

Glad you are well and thanks for the update.

AGlinnerOfHope · 26/05/2024 12:09

Very glad to hear from you, @YaMuvva

Glad all is well.

BeeCucumber · 26/05/2024 12:09

Thanks for the update. I hope you feel much better soon Flowers

WickedSerious · 26/05/2024 12:14

I'm glad you're okay @YaMuvva and that the 'handover' passed without incident.
Garage thief's sister sounds like a laugh a minute.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 26/05/2024 12:15

Thank you for the update! I am very glad to hear that you´re doing better now!

I hope you´ll enjoy your allotment (and new house in general).

As for garage thief´s sister: don´t engage and ignore her if possible. Be polite but non-committal if you have to interact with her for some reason...

HappiestSleeping · 26/05/2024 12:22

@YaMuvva - very pleased to hear you are on the mend and that the situation has resolved itself.

I confess that I am a little sad that we are at the end of what turned out to be four whole threads. All good things and all that 😂

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 26/05/2024 12:27

Thank goodness you are ok ! having read your health updates I was concerned you had taken a turn for the worse.
Altho having seen you on another thread previously I wondered if you were taking time out from MN, but didn't think you would abandon this thread to do so.

I think someone had worked out that you had a ban as there is a comment about seeing you in one week or something similar.

Clearly Bab's solicitor told her she didn't have a leg to stand on - if she even actually consulted one !

JanewaysBun · 26/05/2024 12:30

Glad youre ok

What an eventful update!
Hope you have a good lock for the garage

LordPercyPercy · 26/05/2024 12:32

Bloody hell, everyone in that village seems out to get their sticky paws on your belongings! Glad you are on the mend now.
