@AdamRyan I agree, there needs to be special provision in law for someone whose marriage is ending because their spouse is transitioning.

Tell you what. Why don't you AS one of the eleventy billion threads about Labour's position and read for yourself? It's been covered extensively and on this thread we prefer not to get into it as it's basically everywhere else on the site.

A short explanation will do.

@TheABC

‘if Labour is committed to single sex spaces and accurate sex reporting, what's the point of the certificates?’

Please may you link to where

’Labour have committed to single sex spaces and accurate sex reporting?’

Not weasel words. But a clear defined commitment.

In the article you posted
Annalise Dodds said
“We believe everyone should be treated with dignity and respect,” she said. “We want to see the process for gender recognition modernised, while protecting single sex spaces for biological women. This means stripping out the futile and dehumanising parts of the process for obtaining a gender recognition certificate, while retaining important safeguards.”

Transgender women could be barred from same-sex spaces

Rishi Sunak has pledged to change the Equality Act to introduce explicit legal protections for biological women in same-sex spaces such as changing rooms and hospital wards.

Tell you what. Why don't you ask one of the eleventy billion threads about women’s rights erosion, and read for yourself?

Why don’t you just explain what you meant? Or are you, as I suspect, attempting to gaslight me? Because that’s suspiciously what it feels like.

No. That doesn’t work I’m afraid.

How are single sex spaces to be protected if a man can call himself a woman following a quick call to his GP?

How are data collection or crime statistics accurate if a man can call himself a woman following a quick call to his GP?

When I say quick call I mean paying £45 on the internet much like people do for sick notes.

I don't understand why people are still stubbornly clinging to the belief that Labour's stance on trans issues will lose them the GE.

If that was the case, why would Labour have done so well in the local elections, which are prime territory for protest votes, much more so than a GE. Why didn't people vote in vast swathes for the Party of Women candidates (not sure how many stood?).

BIossomtoes · 20/05/2024 10:21

There appears to be a goady parrot here this morning. It’s probably best ignored.

IClaudine · 20/05/2024 10:22

Yes, very true, Blossom.

More evidence the Tories are draining as much as they can while they have a stranglehold on public services in lieu of their Brexit. Talk about basic rights, I'd settle for clean drinkable water and being able to swim in our rivers and seas as we did pre-Cameron.

They aren't. Hence nothing to understand.

There are a collection of posters who would have you believe that. But a cursory use of Janes Usenet Razor will remove them from the thread.

Basic statistics suggests that if you can fill a 1,000 post thread with 120 or so posts that reduce the quality of debate, you have increased the noise and obscured the signal.

I saw that OFWAT rigorously deny this. Which means it's true (naturally).

Maybe they are already hearing the growing murmur "What's the use of OFWAT if we have shit in our rivers, have to boil our water and see Thames Water go bust ? Who do they think they are ? OFGEM ?"

The numbers really are staggering.
And my water company - Thames - wants to increase my bills by 40%.

No one can answer the point above, as expected.

Ignore me it’s ok! This is certainly a Labour strategy.

Migrants sent to Rwanda face being flown out to another country if the medical care they need isn't available there

British taxpayer will cover the costs of treatment abroad in Belgium, India, Turkey, or one of seven east African countries, under contract signed last week

The deal also covers full dental care, free contraception, a free eye test, lenses, and frames up to £60 a year

This will be a vote winner Hmm

So they get better healthcare than UK citizens.

That's deter them.

GB News broke broadcasting rules with People’s Forum: The Prime Minister.

We found GB News failed to preserve due impartiality in this case - a serious and repeated breach of our rules.

Well as long as you don't have a criminal record (I don't) then just rock up at a beach in Dover and claim to be any asylum seeker dropped by a large bird (maybe a phoenix, for the irony). Then let the British state find is has no records of you (because our systems were never meant to be used that way) and await your flight. Don't forget to collect £3,000 too.

Imagine all the resources that would have to be bought to bear on that single case ?

"Your English is remarkably good for an asylum seeker."
"Well, I am fleeing the UK".

Piggywaspushed · 20/05/2024 12:27

As a very small and unrepresentative survey... I know 4 couples where the partner has transitioned. None of those relationships has ended in divorce or a break up, only one of the spouses was (initially) unsupportive of their partner. Three of the relationships (admittedly this is a perception) seem stronger and happier than before. Notwithstanding I do still agree with the points above in principle. I remain hugely admiring of all of the 8 people involved in those relationships (and the children, as it goes).

Re the crime stats - honestly if the ONS aren't up in arms about this (which they aren't), I am not quite sure why the layperson thinks this is such a huge statistical thing.

The Express reporting Farage on a case involving GB News.

I think the universe is about to reset.
