Because rainbows are woke.

This exchange on Twitter did make me laugh.

Labour candidate has been finally announced for my constituency. Absolutely nobody anybody has heard of or local.
I know this isn't a target seat but all the tactical voting sites say Labour best vote here.
That is rubbish.

IClaudine · 14/05/2024 21:02

Oh, I am now very intrigued about the vexatious and equestrian clues mentioned!

Notonthestairs · 14/05/2024 21:26

"Stuart Skeates, the director general for strategic operations at Illegal Migration Operations Command (IMOC), wrote to colleagues on Tuesday to say his department had been told to cut the numbers of staff to “pre-pandemic levels”, in line with the chancellor’s plans."

Did they increase staff numbers during the pandemic then? I thought there was a recruitment freeze. Or do they mean pre Brexit levels?

I doubt that they even know what they mean.

fabio12 · 14/05/2024 21:35

They've decided to blame everything that happened because of Brexit on the Pandemic, so they get easily confused.

Piggywaspushed · 14/05/2024 21:48

Bootsposted the list of dissenting Tory MPs on another thread- includes one T May!

Imagine if she crossed the floor....

My bet would be on Caroline Nokes. She is so Not A Tory,

Cheguevarahamster · 14/05/2024 21:51

Apparently there is a big "secret" labour event on Thursday and lots of rumours of another defection. My money is on Will Quince and related to defence/ security. (Colchester army base). https://twitter.com/breeallegretti/status/1790477309729751510?t=YgN2_DXmmSKUMXPFQTkErg&s=19

But it could be anything
There may not be a defection tomorrow but I do hope there is.

Anyone heard about Gullis being under investigation?

I'll give her 50 p to defect.

Yup. I checked.

They don't mean pre pandemic levels.

They mean the staff they recruited because of Brexit red tape.

That red tape is still in place existence and they've added to it with Rwanda.
So cutting staff should go well...

I doubt anyone will be crossing the floor tomorrow but the guessing is fun Grin

The only person funnier than May would be Rishi. Preferably crossing the floor just before PMQs.?

That's a great image to have in my head today 😂

Thanks @countrygirl99

Wow.

Notonthestairs · 15/05/2024 08:21

So that money - has it come from NHS budgets?
If so doesnt that mean that not only have we spent two thirds of the historic average but a big chunk of that was Covid related so we've invested even less?

Notonthestairs · 15/05/2024 08:30

Times reporting that Starmer has been in talks with Baroness Casey (of the damning report about the Met) for her to join his ethics and integrity commission - would be an interesting and, from my perspective, positive hire.

L1ttledrummergirl · 15/05/2024 08:32

That's been the issue- the money hasn't been invested, it's been given tory donors and banked.

Legalised theft in my opinion.

They talk about "record investment in nhs, police, military (insert whichever is flavour of the day), my head says record level of theft. That money doesn't seem to be making its way anywhere near the actual service. We do have many new billionaires though.

Notonthestairs · 15/05/2024 08:32

Actually just have an ethics and integrity commission would be a welcome change.
Did Sunak ever appointed an ethics advisor? I seem to remember a couple ethics advisers resigning under Johnson and then nada.

L1ttledrummergirl · 15/05/2024 08:33

How can he have an ethics and integrity commission when he doesn't have any?

Exactly.
And this is the point when people ask over and over - we know who they are -where is the money coming from.
Redirecting funds into services/infrastructure will make the difference.

Its a good choice. She will be a great hire.
