An old acquaintance made A LOT of money out of PPE during covid - hundreds of £m. We don't mix in quite the same circles now but we are both still involved in the hobby where I met her. There's a lot of very conspicuous very high value consumption going on. Every time I see she's spent another several £000k+ I think "that's NHS money there, how many ops would that have paid for"

Cheguevarahamster · 14/05/2024 16:41

The reaction to last vote last night's vote from the Tories. "Absolute shitshow".

Mr Brereton saying: "We're all going to be banned from the estate now…" and Ms Cates saying, "Watch the vexatious complaints roll in…"

A vexatious complaint does not normally end in arrest. Isn't Cates still under investigation?

The entitlement of these people is astounding.

Tory MPs share despair at PM's top team over Commons vote in leaked WhatsApps

There is fury today among Tory MPs after most found themselves on the losing side of a vote to exclude any MP arrested for a serious offence from the parliamentary estate, which would bring Westminster into line with many other workplaces.

My aching sides.

No wonder the Rish! friendly media buried his codswallop so quickly yesterday.

Dirk sued Stig, Nasty, and Barry; Barry sued Dirk, Nasty, and Stig; Nasty sued Barry, Dirk, and Stig; and Stig sued himself accidentally.

Mr Brereton saying: "We're all going to be banned from the estate now…" and Ms Cates saying, "Watch the vexatious complaints roll in…"

Oh, the irony! For a party who love to set the police on the Opposition they certainly 'don't like it up 'em', do they?

SerendipityJane · 14/05/2024 16:58

I wonder how many ordinary people have lost jobs after being arrested - even if they were never charged ?

prettybird · 14/05/2024 17:03

I'm not 100% sure (never having been in the situation Wink) but I think in Scotland, they can't interview you unless you've been arrested Hmm

The charge can come later, once the investigation is completed and even then, you might not be prosecuted as the Fiscal then gets sent the evidence and will decide if there is enough evidence Confused

That could lead to some interesting discrepancies between England and Scotland Shock

Piggywaspushed · 14/05/2024 17:11

I have often thought M Cates is on MN. Some stuff that appears on various threads sounds like her.

Notonthestairs · 14/05/2024 17:13

MPs aren't going to be excluded from HoC if they've been arrested for a violent or sexual offence AND if an internal panel considers them to be a risk.

Which is exactly what the House of Commons Commission recommended!

They'll still be able to vote via proxy.

Odd that the Conservatives are so desperate to water it down.

Notonthestairs · 14/05/2024 17:17

Ha that should read MPs will only be excluded... etc.

All this blarney about ancient rights from Mogg. He forgot all about that during prorogation.

Also the whole fucking point of parliament is that it has the power to override ancient rights.

As the supremely stupid Kate Hoey and her gang found out when a judge confirmed her brilliant observation that the Brexit Bill contravened the 1801 Act of Union. I believe his summing up acrostically said "And your fucking point is ?"

You would have thought someone of the intelligence and corrupt soul of JRM would have known that.

Notonthestairs · 14/05/2024 17:24

Mogg knows. It's an attempt to stir up feelings against 'modernity'. Change is bad. Conservatives against change.

Bloody woke employment protections - people (women) don't deserve it.

(Yes I know they are self employed but there's nothing to stop them following best practices)

Might be time to advance search "vexatious" as I can't imagine it's used too frequently 🤔Although trying to search for people never seems to work for me!

Looks like Brexit is bringing us closer to Saudi Arabia, huzzah. We share "vital economic and national security interests" https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-69005977
He was quoted as saying that "Britain doesn't just endorse Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, we want to be a part of it".
Not sure anyone can blame me for mis-reading that line as ..."Saudi Arabia's version of 2030..."

Tories know what a woman is and are keen supporters of other countries that do too, it seems.

I'm saying nowt but vexatious is definitely your clue.

They are all going to be banned? That’s quite an admission. I don’t think most innocent people spend time worrying that they are going to be banned from work for getting arrested.

It's a bit like Shapps this morning, sort of golden era of shipbuilding, building 28 ships, uhm up to 28 ships, uhm up to 6 new ships

pledged by the government 2 years ago

And I was very impressed when the R4 interviewer then asked him if they were the same 6 ships they promised 2 years ago

During the war, the US were launching 3 ships a week, and increasing production towards 1945.

I saw photos of the launch of the new facilities with all the Celebs last week or so and was so tempted to ask have they thanked the taxpayer for funding it.
