I see he’s repeating the “bankrupted by Labour” shit. I could have sworn his party has been responsible for this. Lying toad.

ChatGPT I could rustle up one of those a minute until the sun burns out, if you want.

Saucery · 13/05/2024 11:44

Soooooo……clicking through worksheets on an iPad while the teacher gives 1 - 2 minutes to each child? Yeah. Not going to work. The iPads aren’t going to work for a start, or be charged, or be used properly by many children the second the teacher’s attention turns to the next ‘1:1’ task.
Where’s the capital investment coming from for the tech? I know he’d love Teaching Assistants not to be a ‘thing’ at all, but even if you sack all of them it’s not going to fund an iPad or laptop for every child.
And this already happens. There are these things called ‘lesson plans’ where the teacher inputs, then independent work with 1:1 help if required, if the 1001 other classroom demands allow it.
It’s the magic 1:1 isn’t it? That many parents resent children with SEN having in the first place, so he’s playing to that, politics of envy yet again. Angry

You have already given the scheme more time and attention than the government.

AI will do what it is damn well told. And if it won't then it can't be very bright can it ?

Remember, no one really knows what intelligence is anyway. So the conceit some boffins in a lab can make an artificial version is frankly for the really really stupid amongst us. Which currently looks like Rish!. Very little surprise there.

Ooo but will it? That is the question that concerns some.

At some point AI Will start ‘thinking’ for itself. There’s no doubt about that. Scary stuff.

And of course ref VAT, it would say it’s a silly idea. Because well, it is.

Saucery · 13/05/2024 11:47

Blair was the PM when I had my horrendous birth experience in a not fit for purpose maternity unit, so I’m a bit sceptical that Labour has any kind of magic wand for that. Improving pay, staffing and morale will undoubtedly help, though.

DuncinToffee · 13/05/2024 11:48

@Greengablesfables

14 years of Tory education funding. Do you really believe Sunak can now find money for AI tutors?

Not as scary as the people who already don't think for themselves

As I said, you tell me what "intelligence" is. Without a circular reference. Then we'll know if we can have "artificial" intelligence. (The same goes for life, by the way).

What we have right now, is incredibly clever, fast and adaptive pattern matching. Which (rather obviously I always felt) was going to uncover patterns and connections we would never find in a million years. And around ridiculously complicated data sets like vision, or galactic radiation, or mega statistics, some of the "insights" will seem "hey wow".

But is it "intelligence" ?

This is nothing new. The late, died far too young Christopher Evans covered this i the late 70s. It was one of the pieces of research that made me want to work in computing.

@DuncinToffee eh? I never said he could.

Ok
you didn't say that but you seem to be more worried about VAT that impacts a very small % of the population than 14 years of no growth state school funding.

Money raised from private school VAT going to vulnerable state school pupils is not a silly idea

You’re right about the last bit. What is silly, is that it won’t of course (go to vulnerable state school pupils).

I suspect they mean they "can't read it" as it flatly contradicts their pronouncements of less then 10 minutes previously.

TLDR

Forget about the last 14 years, the future is safe with Sunak 🦄

@BIossomtoes ok ok I’ve just enlarged and briefly scanned.

AI has got me! It’s true. Ok ok. White flag. AI sez it’s gud. So it’s gud. If I could be bothered I’d find an AI to tell us it’s all bad. But of course I can’t be bothered.

The point being that AI will tell us what we want it to (for now - as I said, it’s undeveloped tech at this stage), as PP said.

I never said it was a good idea. 🤷‍♀️

SerendipityJane · 13/05/2024 12:10

Will this "intervention" have a similar effect to his last ones ? If so, how much lower will the Tories poll this evening ?

Thing is - in the nicest way possible - Rish! doesn't give a fuck what you think. He doesn't even know you exist.

Just for balance, I'm in the same boat.

I rarely post as I'm much less well-informed than you lovely lot and rely on this thread for a lot of my information but this comment from Sam Freedman reponding to Sunak's speech this morning made me laugh on a dull Monday:

"Another, more basic, problem is that he campaigns with the emotional range of a bored HR director doing a training session for new starters."

Thank you all for these threads!

fabio12 · 13/05/2024 12:45

Has anyone ever actually tried to use the chat bots on the Government Gateway? I was sent around in a circle 5 times and still haven't had my issue resolved. I very much doubt many primary students will learn much from such a fail safe system. Maybe they could instead invest in computer science courses so we might be able to implement better AI in the future. Currently I imagine it's some sort of big data gathering enterprise where they'll sell data to companies on our kids for AI on spending habits or something far less worthwhile than education. I imagine a giant Alexa listening in unhelpfully binging out "I'm sorry, I did not understand the question" repeatedly to frustrated children.

It seems the bot doesn't know VAT is static 20%. This is hardly the "best" thing that could happen to all schools, the government could choose to properly fund the state sector, or even reinstate what they've taken away over 14 years.
