Meanwhile the Tories latest tactic - "We are so corrupt we can prove Natalie Elphicke is too" may not be the genius move they were sold it as.

I hope they kept the receipt.

I'd almost say they've lost it, only that would be assuming they ever had it.

Is that Buckland who sat on the information for the last 4 years?

Well this is where it gets interesting.

The Tories appear to be trying to smear Elphicke by saying that she attempted - via Robert Buckland - to interfere in an ongoing court case. However they have forgotten that it was they who were in power then - not Labour.

It's unbelievable that they could have confused Keir Starmer being DPP and Buckland being Attorney General but this far in, U could believe it.

DuncinToffee · 12/05/2024 19:34

Some bad people made him do it

They really do think were are all absolutely stupid.
NE in the Tory party, everything is fine.
NE in the Labour party full blown hysteria.

Notonthestairs · 12/05/2024 19:41

Goodness me they are a forgetful lot - can't update their phones, overlook an HMRC investigation in to the Chancellor tax affairs AND forget that their mate has attempted to pervert the course of justice.

Maybe they aren't up to the job.

DuncinToffee · 12/05/2024 19:42

iPaper is saying that the Tories have admitted that an ex minister is holding talks with Labour over defecting to the party.

Any guesses? Buckland himself?

Braverman has reportedly suggested the Government should lift the 2 child benefit cap to be lifted #justsayin...

RafaistheKingofClay · 12/05/2024 21:49

God I hate it when I have to agree with Braverman.

Is Zahawi the ex minister? Then we can spend next week with Tories telling us how bad it is that they’ve let Zahawi in given his problems with taxes.

Wonder if this will make the front pages of the Mail/Times/Telegraph

Zonder · 12/05/2024 23:00

How on earth can they get away with not saying if they paid tax? It obviously means they didn't, or they'd be keen to set the record straight.

TheABC · 12/05/2024 23:10

I don't think every constituency with a 20k voting margin will turn Labour. Independent and Lib Dems should do well, too.

What's the mechanism if Sunak doesn't call a GE by Jan 2025? Do we get King Charles to shut up Parliament and call it?

L1ttledrummergirl · 12/05/2024 23:41

So the deputy speaker allows this witch hunt on Angela Rayner, but has possibly not paid her own taxes, whilst in Parliament.

Fucks sake.

tobee · 13/05/2024 04:12

I feel like the Tories are just going for the "see! They're as bad as us!!" tactic; evidenced by Rayner and Elphicke stories being pushed.

tobee · 13/05/2024 04:13

What a way to run a campaign!

user8800 · 13/05/2024 06:25

Bearing in mind the content being reported to be in Sunak's speech later today...

Proroguing parliament again?

I wouldn't put it past them
...

Alexandra2001 · 13/05/2024 06:28

@user8800
Can I ask where labour have said they will put more money into education and the nhs?

Where would labour get this extra money from? the moment they mention ANY additional taxes, they get the pile on & of course the Tories have announced NI cuts funded by public service reductions... who do you think that will affect?
But there are spending choices, more costly and ineffective privatisations OR change what we spend money on in the nhs.
e.g private companies set up to deliver nhs services inc using nhs staff who transfer across but all that happens is the new company just duplicates HR IT and even more directors and obscene salaries.

AFAIK Streeting has pretty much said that the nhs needs to be privatised?

He has said that the private sector should be used in the first instance to reduce waiting lists, changes to the NHS will take time, people in pain haven't got time.

They have also not made any pledges re: education that I'm aware of?

Again, Labour can spend the budget differently.

If you have some info/data on this, I'd appreciate it

Yes, Labours manifesto, which hasn't yet been published.
